Woodcliff Hotel & Spa - Horizons Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I had the Sunday brunch.
Great service from our server; Chuck. Food selection and quality was awesome/excellent. Quantity was replaced as soon as depleted a bit. Piano soloist was excellent and added a very nice ambiance. The brunch valve equation was a 10 out of 10.
Service was good. Nothing was done for anniversary. I ordered steat that should have been med well and was well done. Soup was bland and steak was very tough, Partners salmon was just "ok". No drinks or desert and bill was over $100. Would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Go to Outback or some other chain for steak. Actually we went to Max'x chophouse wee before and the food was OUTSTANDING and the bill was less money!!
I was disappointed as I had checked your inter net menu and saw crab sandwhich on the menu but when i got to the restaurant it was not on your menu, I don;t think your menu is a healthy one and would suggest adding a couple fish entrees on lunch menu, like the crab sandwhich and or a shrimp type dish. The food was excellent, just a limited choice for lunch, I don't know why you asked if it was a special occasion -- i did indicate it was a birthday luncheon but there was no acknowledgement that we were celebrating a birthday -- actual two birthdays.
I cannot blame the service entirely on the staff as they were very short staffed that evening.
It took 25 minutes to receive our drinks. My Tom Collins was made wrong and my wife’s drink has multiple bugs in it.
The apps were ok but the main dishes were left to be desired. Essentially I received gummy and super salty mashed potatoes, boiled brussel sprouts, and a fatty, not well trimmed Delmonico steak.
The clientele was a bit on the older side that evening in the restaurant so I am assuming they are catering to those tastes.
It’s not the late 90s and early 2000’s anymore. This hotel and restaurant has failed to keep up with the times, unfortunately. I really wished I could have submitted a better review. I could have spent $50 less and had an amazing meal with drinks and desserts at Branca, five minutes down the road. I am hoping we can maybe try again.
Completely unprepared for Christmas dinner. there seemed to have been a problem with their reservation system so they were not expecting many hungry guests with confirmed reservations. The waiter was great. The hostess was working three jobs to keep things moving, but the manager seemed exhausted and not very conciliatory.
I took my Mom for Christmas Eve dinner as her big gift from me. We waited well over an hour for the first course, soup. The food was nothing special. The service was terrible. We were there almost two hours by the time we got the majority of our food. Very disappointed.
We have dined at Horizons many times. Usually on a special occasion... Christmas Eve, Anniversary, Mothers Day etc. and usually the food is good! However on this occasion, only one of two dinners were acceptable. My wife had a $56.00 Filet which was cooked to what she asked for (medium) but it was dry and chewy. Very chewy. My wife didn't say anything until I had a couple pieces of her steak. I told the waitress and she was very nice. She also was a very good waitress. She got the manager and we told him what the problem was and we told him we weren't looking for an adjustment of the bill but that the chef should be notified about the quality of the steak. We are accustomed to quality food at Horizons.... not on this occasion. Even though we didn't want an adjustment of the bill the manager should have offered out of courtesy a drink for the unacceptable steak on this special occasion. ( Christmas Eve) We were (I) was disappointed because it was MY wife's food!
We ate on Dec 23rd, arriving at 6:45. 35 minutes passed before a drink was brought to the table. The food was generally very good: the crab cake appetizer was excellent, the wedge salad was good, and the lamb rack was excellent. The vegetables attendant to the lamb were uninspired and flat: mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts. Dessert, the house special cake with peanut butter filling, was mediocre. The ambiance is very nice, but once the band started, conversation became difficult. The wait staff, totaling two, was overwhelmed, but it was Dec 23rd, and we were grateful they were working. All-in-all, a bit of a mixed result.
The waiter was great. The ambiance was wonderful. Unfortunately, my mashed potatoes were only slightly warm and getting hard. My husbands whole meal was actually cold (the lamb with mashed potatoes). The only thing we can think of is that there was a large party and our meals sat for a while. We were a bit disappointed.
My salmon and my wife's halibut were excellently prepared. The serving size left enough room for dessert, even after we had started with the excellent lobster bisque. Desserts were good, but pricey ($16 for a slice of the multi-layered peanut butter cake with chocolate). Service was by two waiters - one swift and efficient, and one slower. The non-wait staff stepped in to fill our wine glasses and ask how we were enjoying the meal. The view was beautiful of the setting sun.
Not as good as on prior occasions. Service was terribly slow- we had to wait 25 minutes for our bill and credit card to be picked up and only then when I flagged down another server. The food came fairly quickly, but two of us had salads of very small proportions, given the prices. I will return for the view and convenience to my work place, but service needs to be improved.
The lobster bisque was excellent as always. A larger portion would be nice. The mashed potatoes were tasteless. The steak was very good and cooked correctly. The vegetable choices were poor. The service was good but not a great as usual. This is a great restaurant, just a bit overpriced and lacking in menu depth and originality.
The drink order did not come out for a half hour and we received soups at the same time. One Horizons Chef Salad was completely forgotten about and it was for an entree. It took the waiter so long to come back to check on things, we did without the salad and that person ate the leftover of a childs order of pasta. Seasoning in the ministrone soup and in the childs pasta was overwhelming. The steak and potatoes were good. Eggplant rollatini was not.
The server was very friendly and we really enjoyed him despite the poor dining experience. The Woodcliff is a beautiful venue that we love and the live music keeps us coming back. But we do feel the kitchen needs some help.
Awesome place to view sunset and city lights. Excellent steak. Inquired about and they accommodated substituting sides. Great personalized service by Dan our waiter and entire staff. Made our Anniversary celebration very special. Definitely highly recommend.
We came here for our 29th Anniversary; started with drinks at the bar, followed by dinner in the restaurant. Service was attentive without being rushed or overbearing. The meal was very very good; for starters, we shared the Cheese and Charcuteriie plate, she had the Woodcliff Caesar followed by the 6 OZ Tenderloin. I had the Chicken Gnocchi soup and the 10oz Top Sirloin. Both were cooked to temp and very good. We then headed back to bar to listen to a four-piece jazz group and have an after-dinner cocktail. We had a very enjoyable evening.
Very nice venue; great service; excellent menu selection. The lobster bisque soup was delicious; NY strip perfectly medium, as ordered; Brussels Sprouts seared nicely; but the plate was cool, as were the mashed potatoes running diagonally between the steak and sprouts.
