Woodberry Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Horrible experience. The waitress we had was beyond rude. She tried to rush us as soon as we sat down. We were a party of four and celebrating an engagement. We ordered multiple drinks and apps and within 15 minutes she was pushing us to order a dinner. She asked us 5 separate times what we wanted to eat. Finally we ordered dinner and it came within 10 minutes.. she was beyond rude trying to rush us.. I live in Manhattan and have never been rushed the way she was. Towards the end of the night she got even more rude and nasty
The service from the hostess station to our leaving was ... impeccable! The food was delicious and the service was quite good. The holiday music was a little louder than I would have preferred for an intimate dinner with my husband, but at least the music selection was good.
So over this place. It’s in my neighborhood, so we go often because it’s close and we like the idea of what Woodberry used to be. That said, every time we’ve gone in the past 6 months, something goes wrong. This time it was the hour long wait to get a table that we had a reservation for. Previously, it was the warm bottle of wine after a 30 minute wait, room temperature food, and rude staff at the bar. The food is becoming mediocre and the service continues to be lackluster. Such a bummer to watch this place fall.
Too pretenscious for us. Get the farm to table local ingredients concept but carry some limes and lemons, really not local enough we live in Maryland not too many citrus growing around here. Great server knowledgeable and friendly, slow drinks, unique atmosphere, terrible value. $15 oyster chowder $45 12oz strip. Would recommend to right people not just anyone.
Reservation was honored. Servers were excellent. Beer was cold. Strip steak and rockfish were excellent. Reservation confirm requested nice table for birthday. They came out with very nice and appropriate candle on desert plate, with happy birthday written on plate with chocolate syrup. Very nice.
Made a reservation and still had to wait 30 minutes with no updates or reason offered until we were seated. Though, what's the best way to make up for it?...Two complementary snacks, which of course were tasty enough to forget the wait. After that the night was pleasant and the food is on point, as expected.
Snacks: One Straw Farm Popcorn - 3/5, pillowy kernels at the beginning were light and flavorful not overly seasoned, though were sitting in a puddle of oil towards the bottom; Spicy Cheese on Toast - 4/5, savory with hint of spice, reminiscent of pimento cheese, comes with thoughtful side of bacon bits “chipped ham” for topping.
Warm Plate: Ricotta Dumplings with Spare Rib & Shiitake Mushrooms Topped with Bread Crumbs - 4.5/5, plated like a stroganoff, was not on the menu, savory and slight creamy undertones, not heavy, and was the best choice of the night.
Supper: Spicy Pork & Rigatoni w/cheese straw- 3.5/5, cooked al dente to perfection, the sauce was a tomato bomb without that acid back, still deciding if there was enough sausage but, and was good portion, which I noticed they don't skimp out on. The light and crunchy 'cheesy stick is a puff pastry bread stick infused with Allegheny cheese--delightful.
Sticky Toffee Pudding: 4.5/5. Ok, maybe the real #1 of the night.. highly recommend though left something to be desired. Mini bundt w/oozing toffee sauce upon first cut--fantastic thought, but...what persimmon? The cake was not moist enough, maybe a little stale and the lack of delicious sauce emphasized the dryness.
#1 - dry white vermouth w/coriander: tasted like cardamom rather, light, refreshing
Half bottle wine - Alexander Valley (Cabernet Sauvignon) 2015, Sonoma County: 2/5, this is a red meat, hearty tasting wine, would not order with pasta.
In summary, the food is well-prepared and well-portioned; drinks are tasty but pricey, which makes it hard to pair on a budget... guess you go big or you go home wanting.
Service was great, however, bad night for the kitchen. Salad was poorly assembled and the scallops were served cool almost cold. In addition, we ordered the our beloved CMP with the peanuts on the side and the CMP was delivered with a sugar topping impossible to penetrate (had to be 1/4 inch thick with the nuts inside.
Very disappointing dining experience. Many other better choices.
Parking still a problem, especially in the colder nights.
I have been to woodberry on 2 previous occasions and loved it so I returned with my family for my 25th birthday. Our reservation was set for 8:15 and the hostess promptly informed us that our table was running late. To accommodate us, they gave my family and I several complimentary glasses of wine and appetizers since the table ran VERY late and we got seated around 915-930. The hostesses updated us every step of the way and apologized for inconveniencing us. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and took great care of us. I received birthday dessert and a gift card on behalf of woodberry for our reservation getting pushed back so far. This is not a negative review by any means, I want the public to know how much this establishment cares about their customers and went above and beyond to take care of us and keep us happy during the unfortunate circumstances. I am looking forward to returning to woodberry in the future and although my mother was very unhappy about the wait, she said she would return too.
Woodbury was terrific as always except for a few things. We had an eight o clock reservation but weren’t seated til 8:48. They were very nice about it and gave us snacks terrific snacks free of charge to make up for it. I had the meatballs out of the oven for a starter. They were delicious as always. had the scallops as a main course. I found the accompanying rice which I found to be too salty but others in my party didn’t think so. We had the butterscotch pudding for dessert. I could eat a tub full. It was so good we got some to take home. The service was excellent as always. Will definitely come back here next time I’m in town
