My absolute favorite place in Boystown to eat and have cocktails with friends.
Fabulous food and fun waiter. Changed our order with no problem. Super service! Will be back!
good food, good service, nice wine selection, good windows for people watching
Very friendly restaurant. Came here because they had great reviews for their food - good, but maybe my expectations were too high.
We ordered the mixed board - the bread that came with it needs A LOT of work. Maybe we were mistaken, but there wasn’t any charcuterie on it.
I had the Pike - I enjoyed it. My friends who ordered chicken breast and pasta dishes were not particularly excited about their dishes.
The service was good with one exception -
They keep on trying to take away food that we were still eating. Like a half full plate of fries, or the board that people are still picking on.
Worse thing in a restaurant is being pretentious when offering mediocre things. The waiter was unexplainably aloof and verging on downright route. The starter (a surprise from the chef) consisted of chips (crisps in Britain), popcorn, slices of jerky and carrot humous. We had to wait 75 minutes for the main course: a medium-well hanger steak. The waiter’s explanation (only offered when asked after one hour) was literally “it takes time to cook a medium-well steak”. When the steaks came, the sides were a massive bowl of lukewarm ‘fries’ with ketchup and garlic mayo, with the presentation you would find in any cheap-and-cheeful burger place. Unacceptable.
Superb as usual. We go there for everyday dining as well as for entertaining friends. And their outdoor seating is wonderful for just early cocktails or dining.
The food was amazing; I will definitely be back! Highly recommend the corned beef hash & brioche cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting. I’m salivating just writing this review!
Amazing atmosphere and great service! The food was delicious and modern.
Excellent. Came from the suburbs to bring friends because I liked the food so much. I would like better bread though
Loved the atmosphere of Wood but the portion size & quality of the food we ordered just didn’t balance out with the cost.
Good meal, love the selections and freshness.
I've dined here many times, in fact hosted 30+ people for birthday brunch the last 2yrs, and they are spot on every time! A diamond in the rough in Lakeview! I recommend Wood to everyone I know!
Great service, would highly recommend this venue for a chill night out, date, or if family is in town. Loved the look and overall vibe. Will definitely be back
Casual, but upscale atmosphere. Very attentive service. Delicious food presented in a very attractive way.
Food was good but a bit pricey.
Nice ambiance as well. Unfortunately service was not great - we had to wait well over 40 minutes between first appetizer and rest of the meal. When I asked waiter why is food taking so long he got defensive and said I thought you wanted to wait between 1st appetizer and other. But waiter had passsd by table at least twice and should have observed that one of us is just waiting with no food and the main appetizer plate is sitting empty and only small amount food left in another person’s plate.
And even after waitersaid he will rush the kitchen, it took another 20 minute for food to get to table. Waiter did then apologize for the ‘misinderstanding’ But any good waiter would have seen customer just sitting there waiting for 20 minute and proactively find out what is going on.
So a hesitant endorsement overall
Another great dinner! The salmon dish is perfectly cooked and that crispy skin! Wish there were more restaurants like Wood in the neighborhood.
Our food was delicious. Chicken thighs, cheeseburger, and roasted Faroe salmon. Really well and thoughtfully prepared, and savory. Great beer, wine, and cocktail list. We sat and talked long after finishing our meals, and occupied our table for two and a half hours without being bothered at all. Staff kept our water glasses filled and left us to socialize. Very, very nice.
The atmosphere was great. The food was okay, a bit too much sodium. The manager did accommodate me and my date with a dessert. Not necessary but thank you for the excellent customer service.
The trout sandwich should have been an entree without the bun. It was so delicious I could have eaten twice that portion. Thank you.
Usually reliable brunch but this time our food was disappointing. Chilaquiles were tepid, the chorizo was not cooked enough. Corned beef hash was meh— beef was perfectly seasoned and tasty but the potatoes were over cooked/fried and when you bit into them you tasted frying oil. Only two outstanding items were the market salad and side salad. Very tasty. So disappointed for the cost— $60 without any booze. Come on Wood—- you can do better.
AMAZING BURGER great fries, the ambiance was very stylish and the service was top notch.
Food was just okay and they ask that you order all courses up front which was a turn off for sure.
Everything is good
All was good except things were way too salty. It affected the overall enjoyment of the food. If they dial down the salt levels, I would go to a 4 star easily. Drinks were amazing. Staff wonderful.
Tasty food but expensive for what we got. Both the pasta and the chicken were smaller than expected for the money.
Food and service were great! It’s just way too loud.
Dinner and service were both fabulous. Drinks were pricing - but yummy!
Very limited menu and food was mediocre at best. Was not expecting a sandwich place.
Very nice atmosphere! Food was amazing and the service was great. All servers were very friendly and food came very quickly. Mimosas were also very good!!
Very disappointed!!! This was my first time visiting the Wood. When arriving we were greeted by a friendly hostess. I thought to myself “Great” friendly and I like the atmosphere. I ordered the double cheeseburger and pan seared chicken thighs. The food was brought to the table quickly. Fast service and friendly staff. Well....The cheeseburger was room temperature and barley cook. Ugh!!! The fries were okay but somewhat hard. SMH. I really expected better. $15 later and I’ve eaten fries for dinner. My child liked the pan seared chicken so I guess this was not a complete bust. However, when I explained to the waiter he appeared to be annoyed. Like shut up and eat... Never again!! There are many restaurants to choose from and I don’t have to settle.
The Brussels sprout flatbread was incredible!
Boystown's best restaurant for several years running. Superior quality across the board, friendly service, good lighting.
So glad we finally put this restaurant on our agenda. The drink menu was creative, nice wine selection and plenty of options for entrees to please everyone.
This was my first time @Wood and did not know what to expect. I was blown away from the atmosphere to the food and service. Every dish and drink we had was superb. I have been to most 5-star restaurants in the Chicago area, and this place is in their league.
Would highly recommend and definitely will be back for another wonderful experience.
Wood is a wonderful combination of interesting cocktails and outstanding food. My server provided outstanding recommendations that were spot on.
We came for brunch at noon and found the menu very limited except for a burger and eggs. A bit disappointed.
I went for brunch with my wife and 3 year old. The place was clean, had visually interesting and appealing style choices, and was very quiet (mostly empty right after opening at 10 a.m. on a Sunday).
The pork in my pork and grits was perfect, close to the texture of fois gras. The egg was also perfectly cooked. I couldn't really taste the supposedly smokey cheese in the grits.
The corned beef in my wife's corned beef hash was possibly some of the best corned beef I have ever tasted. However, the hash wasn't really hash with pieces of potatoes and corned beef in 1-1.5" cubes. Her egg was slightly overcooked. The potatoes tasted like they had been tossed in corn flour (not necessarily a bad thing, just different). The overall flavor was still pretty good (thank you corned beef) and my wife was happy with her dish.
My 3-year-old's bacon was excellent and smokey. The cinnamon role was meh.
I was impressed by the beer list and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her cranberry mimosa.
Not a particularly kid friendly environment (no kids menu, no plastic cups, and they filled her water and milk glasses to the brim) but we were still made to feel welcome.
Service was above average.
Price was extremely reasonable, most brunch dishes were $12-15.
Overall, the food was great and we had a good experience at Wood, we will likely return.
Slow service, food was average.
Great crowd. Horrific service. I don’t think they are terribly interested in making money. If I owne this business I would cringe at my employees not coming to ask if I wanted another drink, or a drink to begin with or order food. Or how it was after it was served. It is a fantastic crowd and a great atmosphere, that is what you pay for. Not the service or the food.
Hi Edward, I'm Jeremiah, the GM of Wood. It looks like our staff missed the mark on the core goals we have for every guest's dining experience with your table that evening, & I'd like to make it right, both for this instance & the future. If you're willing to give me a buzz at the restaurant at (773)935-9663 I'd love to get a bit more information about your experience so I can give specific counseling to my staff as well as to extend an offer for you to come back in, with your dinner on us.
Decor and location were nice, hip. The restaurant was busy, and the server was friendly enough. The problem was that the entrees took over an hour and 40 minutes to come to the table. The server kept us updated a couple of times, noting that the food would be out "any minute now," when in actuality it took an addition hour. No one had any difficult meals, but it seemed strange that a medium rare steak or schnitzel sandwiches would take that long to prepare. On top of that, the food was bland, and definitely not worth the wait. We will not be returning.
