From the kitchen to the bar, everything we serve is defined by a passion for exploring unique flavor combinations. Wood is more than a name: our wood-fired oven is at the heart of it all, mustering a dynamic menu of small-plate, American fare, made with the best ingredients the season has to offer. Though the dishes regularly change, they are defined by a few constants: meat is butchered in-house from humanely-raised animals; vegetables are drawn from local family farms; and all pasta and sausage are freshly made, straight from the Wood kitchen to the plate.

Wood Ratings and Reviews
We were a party of 4 - All Food industry professionals. We were completely blown away with the thoughtfulness and quality of execution throughout the meal. We were there through a random series of events. A complete accident and a profound delight. Highly recommended.
Wood's menu is great for sharing! Between the four of us (2 adults, 2 teenagers) we shared 2 of Wood's "small plates" (charcuterie & scallops) and 2 "large plates" (duck breast & wild boar tagliatelle) which proved to be more than enough for all, and everyone was delighted. We will definitely be back!
We had a really nice dinner at Wood. The service was pleasant, the food was good, and I very much appreciated that they were able to make a simple substitution for me to create a vegetarian-friendly pasta. $15 glass of wine seemed a bit much, but other than that, I would recommend!
I found this place accidentally, being I'm an out of towner. Later, my local buddy said it was the only decent place to eat in Boys' Town. I was greeted like an old friend by the Host, and was given a quiet table, which I had both requested and appreciated. Small drawbacks; a really drunk and noisy couple at the bar (what can you do? It's Friday night!) and the main course wasn't really that good. The Waiter very sincerely asked why I didn't tell him earlier so he could have brought me something different. Very thoughtful, and really a nice place overall, enough to make me come back another night. See my next review two days later. Kudos to the Host and the Waiter!
We've come to Wood three times over the course of their existence in Boystown and every time something just doesn't go right leaving us wondering why we tried again. This last time was the end all and we know we won't be returning. First, let's start with the food, it was okay..pork was dry in the carnitas, the burger was bland and boring, and our cocktails were just not good (according to our waiter the drinks would be boozy and not sweet rather they were insanely sweet and just not that good). Being the type of people we don't like to complain so we ate the food and drank the drinks and just brushed off everything else. The one thing I couldn't let go though was our waiter's passive-aggressive tone and comments he made towards the table and that's why I'm writing this review. When a guest asks to have a taste of something you should politely oblige them and not snap back with a passive aggressive comment mixed with a rather rude tone. We had friends visiting from out of town who were just blown away at the sub-par level of customer service. Thank's Wood- know we REALLY know there won't be a fourth trip.
Great brunch with friendly service. The food is priced great for a brunch in Lakeview and delicious overall. It checks all the boxes for a foodie without feeling pretentious. I had an awesome Bloody Mary and chicken croquette, both of which were delicious. I would definitely recommend Wood for Brunch in Lakeview to locals and visitors alike. We will definitely be back soon!
I was really surprised to see how spacious the restaurant was inside . It's really a cool place for date night . Our server was very friendly and took real good care of us . Coming to the dinner menu .. it was a mixed bag . Some dishes were outstanding and some were pretty bland . Drinks were top notch though . Good place to have dinner in the hood but not quite very impressed to come back again !
We love Wood... my husband always says they have one of the best burgers in Chicago. BUT, we were sadly disappointed this last time we went for brunch. I don't know if there's a new chef, but the burger was really mediocre. My husband always orders the burger and he said it was definitely underwhelming this time around. I ordered a seasonal salad that was WAY too salty... Sadly, I think we'll steer clear for a bit as their kitchen is going through something. Otherwise, great ambiance, great location.
With the help of our waiter, Nic, we had a lovely meal. We chose the following:
Heirloom Tomato Tart - we adored the flavors and presentation of this dish and I'm going to steal the idea the next time I cook for friends.
Sauteed Skate Wing - The flavors were delicious and the side of smoked eggplant puree was a revelation to us. The warm corn and haricots vert "salad" complimented all the flavors. Opinions vary on how much to cook skate wing. To our taste it was slightly overcooked. We would order this dish again in a flash but would ask for it to be cooked a bit less.
Pavlova - we almost never order dessert but this was a perfect finish to the meal -- it was full of the best fruits of the season.
Visually, this was one of the prettiest meals I've eaten in a long time and the flavors from one course to the next were wonderful and complimented each other. Thank you Nic for your guidance. We also enjoyed the Fouassier Sancerre you recommended.
Pre-tax, the meal came to $102 and the Sancerre was $56. This was much more than we typically spend on a week night dinner. However, this was a meal packed with value and we were very satisfied.
We dined outdoors and Wood has a nice space. We like eating further away from the traffic on Halstead but many others enjoy the buzz of dining near the street.
We owe thanks not only to Nic but all the staff of Wood. I'm spreading the word about our meal to all our friends to say thank you in action not just in words.
Unfortunately they are not good for busy weekend events like Market Days. The kitchen messed up sent out our food before the appetizer (cheese and meet plate).. normally this wouldn't have been a big deal but we had a large group and it would have been nice for us to all share a plate beforehand. Server was visibly upset with the kitchen but at first seemed to take it out on us. He was Ok overall and I'm sure would be much better if it wasn't such a zoo there. Will take note for future.
Really great food, but, drink not so good. Not sure it is ever appropriate to do a wine pour in the smallest plastic cup there is and fill it only half way at dinner. The festival was going on so I get the plastic cup. When you're paying higher than normal prices already for your drinks, I would expect to get what I'm paying for.
