A bit loud for a nice conversation. I've heard worse, but still, it distracts from its intimacy. Also, very cold inside - we ate with our coats on. Food was very good, had a very tasty soup, among other things but service a bit slow. Our waiter seemed a bit distracted.

This is my favorite restaurant when visiting the Cal campus. The food is delicious (even the desserts, which is not true for most restaurants). My husband particularly likes the hamburgers and fries, while I love the lamb chops when they are available, and the charcuterie plate when they are not. Service is always good, ambience is great, and the surrounding neighborhood has great food and pastries.

First time back since Covid and it’s as great as we remembered. We always get the PORK CHOP and this time also went with the rib eye. Both were delicious. The only thing better was the SERVICE - attentive, thoughtful, charming. We will be back!

When our party of two arrived we were seated right away in the most secluded and nice part of the restaurant right by the windows against the wall. It was great. We had a sense of privacy and we weren’t put in the middle of the restaurant surrounded by people. And the nice part of being right next to the windows was we had nice fresh air coming in and had some people watching time. Our waitress was superb, we both agreed she was the best waitress we’ve ever experienced anywhere. She was very attentive, very informative, had a sense of humor and very kind. Our meal was excellent and very delicious and we had the cheese board as a starter. It was the best and beyond scrumptious! The wonderful tastes on our palettes were heaven. We both ordered the Alaskan halibut and it too did not disappoint. All in all the ambience, our forever kind and attentive waitress and our food experience at the Wood Tavern is one we will never forget. I know we will be back to this peace of heaven on College Ave., Berkeley again.

Two negatives, the menu is absent star dishes such as the fish stew, and is limited to sandwiches and burgers. I ordered aioli, it came late and was sour and not edible on fries. They need to re-up their game so to re-take their spot.

I have consistently have had great meals at Wood Tavern. The food is great, the ambiance is fun, and while they seemed to be short wait staff (like most restaurants), we still had a good experience.

Food outstanding—got duck, halibut, and pork chop. Service not so good—sat at least 15 minutes without anyone coming to our table, bringing water or even acknowledging us. Once our server arrived he was adequate throughout the meal—not great—no apologies for letting us sit. Consensus of our party of 4 was that the food was too good to have this level of service—it took away from the experience. Would recommend with caveats. Spending over $300 on a meal you want a wonderful experience!

The noise level was so loud we could not easily talk across the table. They had an issue with there technology and we were ignored for a long time after being seated. We ordered cocktails and only one was brought to our table. The bartender was busy engaging with a group of liquor reps and ignored our drink order. The food came out just as the other cocktail arrived. Food was fine, not great. When you spend $100 on lunch everything should be top notch. We won’t be returning or recommending.

Staffing was admittedly short and our waiter had to service a large number of tables. Took a while to get our bottle of wine, which we self-poured until empty. Food, overall, was good and Wood Tavern is still one of our local favorites.

This was our first visit back to Wood Tavern since the pandemic began. Overall, they have declined in both service, food quality and taste. The host tried to seat our party of three at a tiny, approximately 24" table. I had to insist on another table before he agreed to move us. My son's $48 steak had a lot of grizzle and was tough. And, on a very hot night, they had the windows open and they were not using air conditioning. It was Hot! Overall, not the type of experience we had in the past. I doubt that we will return.
