They were crowded and appeared to be slightly understaffed when we arrived for lunch, so though our table was ready in a few minutes, we did have to wait for some time before our server took our first orders. She was so busy that she had forgotten to take our drink and starter order to begin with. Later, she mixed up a salad order, but things went better for her as the afternoon went on and the place got emptier. It's a good thing we enjoyed our guest's company and had time for a long lunch! Food was good, but not exceptional, as we often get here. The pork rilles were a bit dried out and hard, too much time in the fridge perhaps? The squid salad was quite small, compared to other starters. This is the 2nd time we've experienced this, and won't order it again. We think they should just eliminate it from the menu. Baked chicken portion was juicy, but small and overly salted. Seafood stew wasn't up to its usual taste. The pasta, however, was quite good, and the apple tart was an excellent dessert choice.

I really enjoying going to lunch with friends at Wood Tavern. It's always welcoming and comfortable and good food and good service. A wonderful place. I should try dinner. But the lunches are just so perfect.

food & service superior.
the only downside on a wintry day is how disruptive it was each time someone entered ir exited & a blast of cold reached the table mid-restaurant.
a little acoustic muffling wouldn’t hurt
but food so good i’ll be back definitely

Extremely well-executed main courses (I had the cassoulet, my husband had the pork chop, the folks at the next table raved about the chicken) and beautiful cheese and charcuterie boards. The restaurant was louder than I like when we first arrived (8 pm) but once a couple larger tables left the sound volume became more pleasant. Wood Tavern remains a well-loved north Oakland gem.

Had a gift certificate from a friend. Made a reservation, arrived early and was led immediately to a table. Had the chicken liver pate which was a 10. Bean and bacon soup, 9. Had the pastrami sandwich, meat was too fatty, served on a baguette which is a very tough chewy bread. I would NOT reorder this.

From the reservation to the last sip of wine, this is the Best. Be patient and enjoy the experience of this magnificent restaurant. I took my wife here about a year ago and she will NOT forget her first experience. She Loves it when I ask her if she would like to make a "Lunch Date" and she has No hesitation about calling out Wood Tavern. Whether it's a reservation through OpenTable or by phone, it is smart and easy to communicate with the arraignments. When seated around lunch time, there is the sound of business, pleasure, friendship and Love. We Loved the attention we received from our server Jillian, who was attentive the entire meal. Our first order was the wine from the bar, my wife is a red wine lover and I chose the White Talley Chardonnay. The service from the bar was Excellent by a wonderful Lady by the name of Devin. We Love the cheese and meat board, with Terrine, Mortadella, Brillat Savarin and Bleu D' auvergne. What a start, the board comes with a delightful portion of spicy mustard, short pickles and purple onions, a cranberry tasting and sliced apple just to romance the palate. We followed that up with a perfect Butterleaf salad with a good house dressing. The main course is OUR favorite, Pastrami, piled tall between two pieces of perfectly toasted bread, with a savory sauce. Half for my wife and half for me, Perfect. I have seen people around us eat the whole sandwich by themselves, but it's so good you might want to eat half now and enjoy the other half at home. . . .It never gets old. . .LOL. Every time we return to the Wood Tavern, we have received the Best in reservations, service and food. We will AGAIN tell our family and friends of our magnificent experience here and more "Lunch Dates" with my wife. . .We'll probably come back for a Christmas shopping treat. . .

My go-to restaurant for a great lunch menu, wine list, service, and ambiance! The staff and manager are friendly and professional. The cod fish sandwich is amazing, and the duck confit perfect; The old Bay Wolf would have been proud of them for this dish.

Overall, a very good experience, as usual, but we have to add that the portion size of the salads and starter courses has been getting smaller and smaller. On this occasion, there was hardly any squid in the grilled squid starter. We would have preferred if it was not on the menu at all. Duck rillettes was an excellent appetizer, and the ribeye steak was very good and cooked to order exactly. Cocktails are excellent.

I have been to Wood Tavern multiple times and always felt the food there was as good as any top restaurant in the Bay Area. However, this was not the case on Sunday. The salad dressing had so much lemon it was hard to eat, same with the chicken. The sauce was too strong and it overpowered the entire dish. The greens that came with the chicken had too much lemon, I could not eat them. All in all it was a big disappointment. On top of that, I had to remind them that it was my wife’s birthday even though we made that request when I made the reservation on open table.

Our lunch for three was delicious however, we waited over 15 minutes for our beverages and 30 minutes for our sandwich/burgers. It seemed as if the kitchen was running low on bread as the the bun for my burger was a lot smaller than the hamburger patty! Fries were superb and the waiter friendly. I would recommend.

First time there. Have heard rave reviews. Service was great. Seriously very friendly and efficient. Food was good quality for the most part. Sauce flavors were good - especially the smokey sauce to compliment the mashed potato. The Ribeye was disappointing - not in the execution, but in the quality of the steak. It was cooked properly, but the texture was not prime quality, which was surprising to me. Wood Board (Rabbit and Croation Cheese) starters were great. Grilled squid salad was good too.

The chicken liver patė was beyond excellent— outstanding. The squash appetizer was unremarkable.
We ordered the chicken and rib eye steak entrees. Both were cooked properly. However, both were entirely too salty. The saltiness of both dishes was a major let down which destroyed the overall dining experience. For that reason we will think twice before returning.
