Love the food. Also the old-time yet current vibe. Will keep going back. Oh, and best French fries ever.
The noise level discourages conversation
Needs to be toned down a level
This is truly my favorite spot to go! Can’t say enough good things about it. Stellar wait staff, Front end, and delicious food.
I think that Wood Tavern is one of the best restaurants in Oakland. I always enjoy my meal.
Wonderful lunch and great food. Love this place!
I felt fortunate to score a reservation at the last minute on Open Table. I try monthly to get into this place and it is a hard reservation to score. As always Wood Tavern doesn't disappoint. The cocktails are always perfect right to the top of the rim. Our waiter Cisco was a delight. He didn't rush us, and attended to our table when needed. The food was fabulous! We recommend the always yummy liver pate, pork chop, rib eye. The only knocks on the night was the late night bartender wasn't as good as the main bartender, the dessert was a disappointment and if you are unfortunate enough to sit close to the reception desk, you get a lot of cold air blowing through the front door on a cold night. Looking forward to returning!
Service was unbelievable - both the hostess and our server really went the extra mile.
The hamburger was way too salty and also contained too much black pepper.
Fries were excellent while they were hot, but there were enough for everyone in the restaurant!
DELICIOUS! The food is truly beautifully presented and absolutely excellent. Service is also excellent and friendly and definitely have Wood Tavern on favorite list!
Food is consistently good . The desserts are amazing!
I had lunch at Wood Tavern with a friend. The service was excellent, and even though we arrived early, they were able to seat us quickly. We had the soup of the day. It was good. My friend had a salad and I had the pastrami special. The pastrami was a bit salty, but a very generous portion with cole slaw. It was a good lunch and we enjoyed eating here.
Yes but not as impressed has I once was.. much to loud an the meat in our dishes had great flavor but was pretty tough for how much your spending an the cost of a dinner at Woodtavern
Consistently great. I plan on returning often. Thank you for such a fine establishment.
We went to Wood Tavern to celebrate my friend's birthday.
We both loved our lunch. I had a cup of soup and a salad. If I had known how absolutely delicious the soup was, I would have had a bowl. My friend's brisket was delicious, but a little fatty. We both loved the chocolate souffle. The noise level was a bit high.
We both had a lovely dining experience.
Wood Tavern is one of our favorite places to eat because they have the best fish sandwich in the world. Anytime we go to this area of California, we deliberately always fly into Oakland so we can eat at Wood Tavern. They know how to operate a classy, clean, impressive restaurant. No detail is spared that goes toward creating an exceptional dining experience from the ambience, food, service and menu.
And when you go, you get up walk down the street with the cutest shops filled with fresh flowers, delightful French pastries and baked goods and other interesting things.
We are celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary this week and Wood Tavern was our first stop.
Our meals were very good. For some reason, though, we had to wait a really long time to get our appetizers, then same thing for our entrees.
Amazing service. Delicious food. Consistently good.
This restaurant books out early for good reason. The food is so delicious and skillfully prepared, the service is outstanding, the cocktails witty - dinner here is a great experience. A good place to save up calories for.
Great atmosphere, tasty food. Enjoyed lunch at this restaurant
Every dish was spot on
Wonderful service and delicious food
Excellent as always!
The staff was very welcoming and made our night that much better!
My wife had a wonderful evening. The food and service was outstanding. I highly recommend the pork chops!
The food at Wood Tavern is absolutely outstanding, and the service is quite good. The restaurant is small however, and a lot of tables are packed into it. So you'll be quite close to your neighbors, and the place is very loud when it's crowded which is most of the time. It's pleasantly decorated, and clean.
A wonderful lunch on a cold rainy day. Service friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The chicken and fish stew were absolutely wonderful. Really glad we had reservations, a necessity at lunch now as well as dinner.
Finally able to get a reservation that worked for us and it was certainly worth the wait. First time for me and my husband. We live on Maui and the dining there is often geared toward tourists, very expensive and generally not very good. We come back to the bay every couple of months and we were hoping Wood Tavern would live up to all of the great reviews. Yes the city has great restaurants but we need a go to place in the eastbay. We found it! We loved everything we ordered: gnocchi, arugula beet salad, duck, sea bass and chocolate tart with orange hazelnut ice cream. My vodka gimlet was perfect too. When we first were seated we were a bit worried about being so close to the next table, and our server seemed a little frazzled and seemed rushed to take our order. But we settle in and none of that was an issue. Service was friendly, we weren’t rushed and we had just enough elbow room! Will be back.
Wood Tavern serves some of the most carefully and creatively prepared foods. Loved the slow cooked brisket sandwich and the delicious pear upside down cake.
Good experience in all but too noisy so i took out my hearing aid and it was fine! Foor was excellent.
The food is always sensational and it is a very well though out and planned menu. Service is always there but not intrusive. A great Irish coffee, and their cucumber slaw is so wonderful So is their acme bread. Soups are tasty, warming and comforting on a rainy day. All in all, a great experience...every time.
Consistently the best restaurant in Rockridge. Food is always excellent, and the price is very fair compared to many restaurants these days.
A warm welcome and good service accentuated a delicious meal. From the wonderful hot spiced pear toddy, which warmed us on a cold night, to the ending lattes, we had a great time. The parsnip pear soup was a first for us, and it was excellent, with just the right blend of flavors. The famous pork chop was very juicy and tender and hard to stop eating to leave room for dessert! Can't wait to get back for another toddy!
I love this restaurant. It is my go to restaurant in the East Bay. Everything on the menu is very good. Drinks are plentiful. Wine list excellent. You cannot go wrong at the Wood Tavern.
The Wood Tavern is a beautiful restaurant with friendly and professional staff. The lovely interior Is welcoming and feels cozy as you walk in the door. Once seated, we ordered apps, entrees and desserts - all enjoyable with just a couple points worth
mentioning. We found that in the French style dishes, more restraint is needed in the
flavors and textures presented. 1. while a radish is a root vegetable, the texture was off putting in the confit. 2. The five spice laced honey on our app board may have gone well with the Rilette, but alongside the
Brillat Savarin, it seemed to be in conflict with the delicate cheese. This is where restraint is needed in the kitchen...keep the French foods nearer to classic style, and if
Asian spices must be served alongside a French cheese or rilette, present it as a “fusion” experiment.
Fun, friendly environment but very loud. The service was great and the food was delicious. Wines by the glass and corkage both very reasonable.
Have been there a few times, and have always loved the menu selection and the fantastic food and service
Will go back again, and again 💜
Excellent team, food, drinks and service. Food is always tasty and staff friendly and the vibe nice. What more is needed for a nice time with friends and loved ones!
Every meal is amazing! I’ve been visiting Wood Tavern for the past two years and have enjoyed numerous meals. I only wish it wasn’t so popular, booking a reservation has become more difficult these days. Even with that, I still highly recommend it to others. It’s simply a lovely experience.
