Food is of high quality. Very nice restaurant for my first experience there.
I've had lunch @ Wood Tavern several times and it was absolutely terrific. This was my first dinner, and the volume of noise was downright unpleasant. My chicken was excessively salted and I just couldn't eat it, although to be fair one of my companions also had the chicken and hers was much better. Third guest loved his spaghettini and asparagus. The staff was lovely and accommodating, didn't charge us for my chicken, and while I'll give dinner there another go in the future, it will be after bracing myself for the sound level. I think I'll try something other than the chicken, though.
It was a ladies night out... Our table was tucked nicely into a corner where we could visit. “Rebecca” waited on us with great care and made wonderful suggestions and joined in the fun where appropriate. We shared one cheese and pate and the grilled asparagus. Wow ! Flavor explosions we couldn’t stop talking about. I had the duck breast, one friend had the sea bass while the other had the pork chop. All three entrees were shared and we all loved them. The crepe dessert with strawberries was something I’d never had before and it was wonderful too and of course we shared the flourless chocolate cake which was the absolute best.
As I said, our service and advice from Rebecca was spot on and there was a very nice man that came by occasionally to ensure we were happy as well.
Definitely will come back here!!!! Thank you!
Wood Tavern is reliably good. The charcuterie board was lovely, & the pea sprout & Arugula salad especially good. Our entrees were good, though not super special in any way. I did not care for the panna cotta with rum & cinnamon sugar topping, way too sweet & the panna cotta had not set, but my dinner partner managed to consume his share. Frankly, I'd go more often if it weren't so hard to get a reservation, so they must be doing something right.
Anniversary dinner- food was exquisite!
Wood Tavern is always enjoyable! On this visit, I was disappointed that the seafood stew/chowder was cream based, which really limited my selection as I am on a heart healthy diet. The other fish item was fried. Salads are always good, and service is excellent.
Enjoyed our 2 year anniversary. Had the pork chops and the duck breasts. Delicious across the board!
Great food and service. I like to go again. The noise level was a little high. I liked that part of Berkeley to wonder around!
Rebecca and Vilma were OUTSTANDING!!
It's always good. My go to restaurant for fun and business.
I have eaten here before and loved the food, service and ambiance. Yesterday I brought two lady friends, we each ordered sandwiches. I was surprised that there was nothing on the menu which looked like a 'lady lunch' (i.e. 75 years of age). I ordered the pastrami sandwich, it was good, but not great, heavy and very spicy.
I didn't ask for soup, didn't see a 'special of the day' option.
I will be back, however, hoping to again to eat the wonderful portobello sandwich I had there several years ago. It was the best.
Was a fabulous experience from Wine serving to the food and ..Oh the desert!
Ate the pork shops and this is a must. The halibut was buttery and so delicious.
Small menu but they did not let me down.
The food is always good here. It does get very loud and noisy. Service is good.
This time not worth the noise and price. Had better food other times....this was lunch and two different sandwiches. They were both too messy to eat except with a fork. The bread was nothing special. For me, too much "sauce," oil on everything, including the "slaw."
Thought it would empty out and get quieter toward end of lunch time, but kept full and very noisy!!
My favorite restaurant.
Every time I go to Wood Tavern, I like it more. The bluenose sea bass was the best I’ve ever eaten, and the front of the house staff is just delightful. I’ll go back again, and sooner next time.
Very, very noisy. Could not hear our own conversation at our own table.
The food never disappoints! The highlights for us is the Roasted Chicken, which my wife has ordered the last 2 times we’ve eaten there. I ordered it this time and, without a doubt, the best chicken dish I have ever eaten. The other “best” is the (Cole) house coffee. It is rare to get a basic coffee from a restaurant this good. Incredible coffee!
Now a negative—
Please offer a better beer selection. It really is lacking. With all the great CA microbrews, there really should more to choose from. Also print them out on your menu, along with the alcohol percentages and the IBUs. The restaurant is loud when you’re busy (which is most of the time) and I shouldn’t have to depend on the waiter to run through them and then not know the all important “specs” that I just mentioned.
Favorite lunch spot, never disappoints.
Met my friend for a birthday lunch. Haven't been there in years. I ordered the hamburger w/o the bun since I am gluten-sensitive. It was delicious, as were the fries! My friend had the brisket sandwich which she also enjoyed. We shared the panna cotta for dessert. Although I had noted on my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, it was not acknowledged in any way, which I was a bit disappointed about. Nonetheless, it was a lovely afternoon, but difficult to hear each other due to the highly 'energetic' noise level.
We had a great lunch! Our waitress was great!
I had the pastrami sandwich which was delicious !
Have been to Wood Tavern many, many, times and love it every single time! The food is excellent and the service is great too!
Wood Tavern never disappoints! This time it provided a warm, friendly & delicious atmosphere for 4 college friends to reconnect, converse & linger over a nice lunch. Thank you!
Had my first experience to catch up with an old friend, and could not have asked for more. Just perfect all around from the front of the house to the back.
Our server was incredible, I really can’t say enough good about him. The food was delicious, as always. We would actually eat there more often if there were a vegetarian option on the entrée list. The restaurant is always lively And a great place for dinner for any reason.
Love the food. Also the old-time yet current vibe. Will keep going back. Oh, and best French fries ever.
The noise level discourages conversation
Needs to be toned down a level
This is truly my favorite spot to go! Can’t say enough good things about it. Stellar wait staff, Front end, and delicious food.
I think that Wood Tavern is one of the best restaurants in Oakland. I always enjoy my meal.
Wonderful lunch and great food. Love this place!
I felt fortunate to score a reservation at the last minute on Open Table. I try monthly to get into this place and it is a hard reservation to score. As always Wood Tavern doesn't disappoint. The cocktails are always perfect right to the top of the rim. Our waiter Cisco was a delight. He didn't rush us, and attended to our table when needed. The food was fabulous! We recommend the always yummy liver pate, pork chop, rib eye. The only knocks on the night was the late night bartender wasn't as good as the main bartender, the dessert was a disappointment and if you are unfortunate enough to sit close to the reception desk, you get a lot of cold air blowing through the front door on a cold night. Looking forward to returning!
Service was unbelievable - both the hostess and our server really went the extra mile.
The hamburger was way too salty and also contained too much black pepper.
Fries were excellent while they were hot, but there were enough for everyone in the restaurant!
DELICIOUS! The food is truly beautifully presented and absolutely excellent. Service is also excellent and friendly and definitely have Wood Tavern on favorite list!
Food is consistently good . The desserts are amazing!
I had lunch at Wood Tavern with a friend. The service was excellent, and even though we arrived early, they were able to seat us quickly. We had the soup of the day. It was good. My friend had a salad and I had the pastrami special. The pastrami was a bit salty, but a very generous portion with cole slaw. It was a good lunch and we enjoyed eating here.
Yes but not as impressed has I once was.. much to loud an the meat in our dishes had great flavor but was pretty tough for how much your spending an the cost of a dinner at Woodtavern
Consistently great. I plan on returning often. Thank you for such a fine establishment.
We went to Wood Tavern to celebrate my friend's birthday.
We both loved our lunch. I had a cup of soup and a salad. If I had known how absolutely delicious the soup was, I would have had a bowl. My friend's brisket was delicious, but a little fatty. We both loved the chocolate souffle. The noise level was a bit high.
We both had a lovely dining experience.
Wood Tavern is one of our favorite places to eat because they have the best fish sandwich in the world. Anytime we go to this area of California, we deliberately always fly into Oakland so we can eat at Wood Tavern. They know how to operate a classy, clean, impressive restaurant. No detail is spared that goes toward creating an exceptional dining experience from the ambience, food, service and menu.
And when you go, you get up walk down the street with the cutest shops filled with fresh flowers, delightful French pastries and baked goods and other interesting things.
We are celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary this week and Wood Tavern was our first stop.
