We went on a date night because we love steak. The steak was very very good - big portions and cooked perfectly. It was one of the most expensive steaks I've ever had but wasn't close to the best. The service was very good but not stuffy. They came by at just the right time but didn't hover. Drinks were nice and strong but done well. The overall experience was very good, but a $400 bill for 2? This should have been the best steak we've ever had. This is probably the typical "NYC price shock" but we could have taken the waterway to jersey city and had just as good a meal for $250.
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. I cannot get over how amazing the steak was. We like to check out steak houses once a month. This month was such a great pick. We got the porter house for 2, medium. It was perfectly juicy and melted in your mouth like butter. We ordered mash and creamed spinach as the sides and those went perfectly well with the steak. I definitely want to go back.
Had to wait 15 minutes for our table on NYE, which was upsetting because we had a reservation and also had plans after which we were trying to get to. Thinking they overbooked the restaurant. The service was great overall and the food was fantastic. Got the porterhouse for 2 with a side of the German potatoes which were unreal. One of the best steaks i have eaten in years.
We arrived 15 minutes early and were seated immediately. 3 waiters total checked on us and provided service. They were nice and courteous. They did a relatively good job of providing prompt service on a particularly busy evening like new years eve.
My only pet peeve is that not everyone is a wine lover or alcohol drinker. Tiny bottles of soda could give way to actual full size cups.
All in all, and outstanding experience. The appetizers were well prepared and graciously presented. The steak was as good as one would ever find. Perfectly prepared. And the side dishes were both ample and tasty. My only curiosity was the tagteam approach of the waitstaff. The service was absolutely stunning, but no waiter came to our table more than once, and that seemed to be true of the tables around us as well.
The front of house was a disaster. No greeting upon entry. I felt like I was a nuisance to them upon entering. I consider myself to be a pro when it comes to dining etiquette having worked in restaurants before. This was just ridiculous. I had reservations and confirmed them, and it was not busy when we walked in. The two hosts at the front had really poor attitudes. They also gave one of my guests an attitude when he asked if there was a coat check. I would think at a restaurant of this caliber that a nice greeting and a “may I take your coat?” should be the bare minimum. It was a very disappointing way to start out the evening. Food wise...everything was good. Our server was good. All in all, I much prefer the Wolfgang’s on Park Ave over this one. Food and service were superior.
This has been one of the worst steak house I’ve been to. I go regularly out to dinner and eat steak a lot! To start off I asked the waiter a question on preference of steak I should get and all he kept recommending was the a salad...really? Your staying a salad. Then when the steak was served the waiter comment that we were two ladies eating a manly male...I didn’t know having steak at a steak house became a manly meal. To follow up the rib eye that I ordered was served Medium after I asked for medium rare, and half of the steak was fat (ie there was a piece of fat the size of my fist), I get that steaks can be fatty as I eat steak regularly but it shouldn’t be half of the steak. And if the waiters had come over and checked in to ask how our meal was I would have had the chance to tell them this. Finally we had dessert and I was served my espresso cold, which seal the fact that I never plan to go back to this restaurant and would NOT recommend it. Go to another steak house...American Cut, Del Frisco, Delmonico’s, Sparks...just to name a few that are much better. (Only thing I’m sorry about is I didn’t think to take a photo to add to my review.)
I have been to this location numerous times. It is my go to place for steak. After this last times visit I am going to try another place. The steak (porter house for two) was amazing as always. My problem is with the service. The waiters are rude, arrogant, and rushed us from the time we sat down. Next time I am in the mood for a great steak house I will be trying something new.
Me and Hubby are always looking for a good restaurants in nyc! Well we found it in Wolfgang’s! The atmosphere was awesome! The food top notch and wait staff very attentive and knowledgeable! I would definitely return and highly recommend this fabulous restaurant!
Aside from the seafood sampler that we had as an appetizer, the remaining dishes were very disappointing. Porter house for two lacked flavor and was burnt. Not charred for flavor, but ash burnt. Service was horrible. For a $300 dinner I would have expected to at least get my water filled when empty. And how about someone to check on how the meal was being enjoyed? Many better steakhouses out there - avoid this costly mistake.
