Wolfgang's Steak House - Times Square Ratings and Reviews
This is one of those restaurants that stop serving you as soon as you pay your check. Not even a water glass refill. My business meal did not last excessively long, but it was predictably expensive. I expected better from a restaurant of this caliber. I won't be back.
I was extremely disappointed in pretty much all aspects of the experience. We were seated an hour past our 7 PM reservation, then waited 25 minutes for a waiter. Each person's steak was cooked differently than ordered (for example, I ordered medium rare and it came out somewhere between medium and medium well). Frankly they seemed overwhelmed with the Holiday crowd. It felt as though they added as many tables as possible to accommodate the increased business but in the process lost some of the control necessary to run a great restaurant.
First things first: it's a great restaurant, and I recommend it as part of your visit to Manhattan. Now, having said that, I want to add that it's not perfect. There's room for improvement. 1) Noisy is one thing, but it's so loud in there that conversation is difficult, and so is communication with your server. It's not a nightclub, it's a dinner restaurant. Improve the accoustics. 2) Crowded, too tightly packed. The waiters were scooting an unused chair at our table back and forth to get through the aisle. I can't imagine if someone was actually sitting there. 3) Sloppy. If I want the server to slosh coffee into the saucer, I can go to any truck stop diner. FINE RESTAURANT RULE: if you slosh coffee into the saucer, immediately take the cup and saucer away and immediately replace them.
As expected everything about our experience here was top notch. The wait staff were very cordial and attentive to the minutest detail. The food, as always, was phenomenal. My wife and daughter shared a sirloin and it was more than enough for the two of them. It was cooked to perfection and the taste was off the charts (I stole a bite or two). For myself I had the ribeye and let me say that my meal was outstanding. Also cooked to perfection the texture, smell and flavor were beyond description. I definitely recommend this place and for us it capped off a wonderful day of going to the theater, visiting Bryant park and seeing the tree at Rockefeller Center. You will not be disappointed!
Fantastic meal once again! Started off with an excellent Manhattan and Dry Martini. Had to have the staples, Bacon with Wolfgang Steak Sauce, Porterhouse for Two (a perfect medium-rare), German potatoes, and creamed spinach! All are magnificent! Service was so so, waiter fairly indifferent, but timely.
The waiter told us that there is a minimum order need to be placed when u seat at the table for 6 people never heard about this
We been going to Wolfgang for many years and this was the worse experience ever I don’t think they ever going to see us again at least at this location
One of the best steaks I've ever had anywhere in the U.S. Very crowded. My seat was next to a screen where the servers input your order, etc and my shoulders kept getting hit the staff. Also, had our water glass refilled AFTER we had finished our meal. Asked for a desert menu but after waiting for 15 minutes after we received it we finally just asked for our check. Great food but sorry service. Since we live in the southwest we don't get to NY very often, especially at Christmas time, but next time will find a different steak house. Probably good for larger groups but as a party of two, the staff spends their time where the bigger tips are coming.
The only items that were executed properly after ordering were the appetizers. Perhaps we should have left after those because ONE HOUR AND FORTY MINUTES after ordering 5 steaks, we finally were served. Unfortunately our server decided that two of us would be sharing one steak, and two of us had our steaks cooked well done even though we requested it to be medium rare. Out of our party of five, only one order came out correctly. After another 40 minutes of a manager trying to fix everything, we left. All of us have worked in restaurants, one of us is a GM of a busy restaurant in NY so while we could typically be understanding about the situation, there was definitely no saving this disaster of an experience. It seemed that the server had too many tables. Just an extremely disappointing experience here.
I have been to this restaurant a few times and the food is always good. Love the one in Beverly Hills as well. Steaks are always great and the sides are awesome. Nothing like their German potatoes. Also had a great wine list.
The problem is the service, specifically up front. We had 8 PM reservations for a party of 4. Checked in at 7:55 and were told it would be a few minutes. It was very crowded at the front. The layout has the hostess stand right up against the door when you enter and the bar directly (6 feet) in front of the hostess stand. Not a lot of room and on this night the bar was very crowded. I hovered near the hostess stand and was told to leave and wait in the bar area, "I will come get you in a few minutes." I checked in with her a few times between 8 and 8:45. Was told, in a bothered tone, that I would be retrieved when the table was ready and it would only be a few more minutes. While at the bar we were shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of strangers and had to swim through 5 rows of people at the bar waiting to get drinks just to get our own drinks during our 50 MINUTE wait for a table. It was a little embarrassing as this was a client dinner. At 8:45 we started Googling for other locations when 4 seats at the bar opened up. We decided to have dinner at the bar. As soon as we sat down the hostess approached and said, we could not sit there if we were going to eat in the dinning room. Our table would be ready in a few minutes...just like at 7:55.
We ended up eating at the bar. Bartenders were great but would not go back with intent to sit in dinning room. Management - IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE TABLES, DON'T TAKE THE RESERVATIONS. IF SOMETHING COMES UP, TELL THE GUEST IT WILL BE 45 MINUTES SO WE CAN MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION.
!We waited more than45 minutes. The noise was terrible. We were told in10 minutes we would be seated and we were not. They did not offer us a drink or anything for our wait. We will not recommend this restaurant to our friends and family. I will also make comment on facebook
The food was only okay, especially for the price. The restaurant was not crowded but the service was very slow. If we wanted a drink we had to get the waiters attention and ask, he didn't come to see if we needed anything. There was not a big menu selection.
The quality of our food was excellent but one order was incorrect (a strip steak instead of the fillet that was ordered) and on the other two fillets, almost still mooing rare instead of medium rare. I believe all three mistakes were due to the extremely noisy environment. You might want to speak loudly when ordering and ask for a confirmation of your order.
Waited 20 minutes after OpenTable reservation to be seated. 2nd or 3rd time I've had to wait after making a reservation (I've been 3 times). Asked for a quieter table on reservation, because it is extremely loud in the restaurant (no music, ambient noise loud), but were squished into a table in the middle of the crowded floor. Would recommend coming after 9, as the restaurant thins out after then.
Steak is equivalently priced to other Manhattan Steakhouses (45-55), but the quality/flavor was better than other steakhouses I've been to nearby (Del Frisco's, Gallagher's, Capital Grille).
If you're in the area, don't care about service or ambiance, and all you want is a quality steak at Manhattan prices, this is the best option I've found. I'm sure there are better steakhouses further away or for more money or with longer waits, but for the area and price it is an acceptable option.
