Lack of service, the food was actually terrible. We have been here before but this was by far the worst experience I've had at Wokcano. It started with the drinks, the first 3 things we ordered they didn't have ingredients for. Someone isn't doing inventory properly or something?
The service was not good, they never came back to ask us if we wanted another round. And we were over it by then, we didn't even want to order more.
Nearly all of the food we ordered wasn't good. And we had one gluten free friend who could barely order anything since nearly all sauces and soy sauce had gluten. The birthday girl had a terrible piece of salmon on her sushi and it ruined her entire appetite. Tasted overly fishy and slimy, she was not happy about and left very disappointed. Our server didn't even ask how everything was. To list out our issues - our miso soups came out cold, we asked for new soups and we received nearly half the amount after they microwaved them and the soup evaporated (getting them back took 10 minutes btw... they could have just brought us new FRESH soup). The salads were soaking wet... who wants to eat wet lettuce? The quality of our fish was terrible (as mentioned above). The orange chicken was overly cooked and difficult to eat, it didn't even taste freshly made, the outside was rock hard.
By the time we got our bill we didn't even have the energy to complain. We just wanted to get out of there. Terrible place to choose for our friends birthday dinner, couldn't be more disappointed.
My first experience with my boyfriend just for our cravings. We both order the sushi and rice seasoned with ginger. We both loved it and took a to go. Turns out, his mother loved it too. I'd give them a 3 out of five stars overall four stars from the customer service, atmospher, and location, however. I'm not a fan of tipping but when it's due, I do too lol.
Terrible lighting, spotlight was in my eye. Food came late and appetizers came with the meal. Food was mediocre.
So we made reservation for 6:30 on a Saturday at night and it was pretty mellow. Maybe three tables seated and a ton of staff. The woman at the front was super sweet and offered us happy hour or regular table. Before we could answer some guy came and whisked us away and sat us. He was so fast my mom couldn't catch up as he sprinted up the stairs, throwing the menus on the table. We received water right away and then sat...and sat...sat. We watched at least 15 employees running around but no one came to us. I actually had to get up after 15+ minutes to ask if we could order. The nice server said sorry and said there had been a miscommunication and took our order. We ordered a cocktail and food and it came in a timely fashion. Strangely the sushi fish was on the warm side but other than that food was average. No one ever asked me if I needed a 2nd cocktail and my water stayed empty for a while. Then we asked for the check and it took - again - like 15+ minutes for them to take the check! I know they are trying to hip and trendy and the ambiance is lovely but the food wasn't anything special and the service was disappointing.
The food was terrible. Sushi was not fresh. Very disappointing.
Amazing service and food will be back again soon !
Great menu with a pretty large selection of asian infused options. The food was really and portions were really good.
The only thing that didn't make this resturant a total lost, was our waitress .. an Asian woman that kept us upbeat considering how the restaurant turned out to be. Our choices was limited with where we were able to sit, we end up having to choose a seat that had a big hole in it, we were embarrassed for the restaurant. And then we get to the food, where it was very tasteless and bland ... after finding out that the place is not kid friendly, the menu was very limited to what I was able to give my three-year-old niece. My three-year-old niece did not like the one thing that I thought she will eat. Which was the crispy chicken strips, however she did eat the broccoli
Great happy hour drinks and appetizers for the price.
Food for dinner was amazing. I recommend, Korean short ribs, Double Kung Pao (super spicy and filled with shrimp and chicken) Pad Thai and the family style Sushi regular plate enough for 4 people.
We made a reservation for 7pm. When we arrived the restaurant was unexpectedly closed. Paper sign up just said CLOSED with no explanation. Very disappointing especially with two hungry kids.
Really great spot to have relaxed convo would return.
I met a friend for lunch and was pleasantly surprised at the great value of their lunch menu - and the food was fresh and delicious!
A nice place, service not so good. It took over 15 minutes to be acknowledged at our table. I had to go downstairs to tell the hostess nobody had come to are table yet.
Service was not good. Hardly came by and uninterested in us. Not a pleasant experience. Regret this choice
To be honest we have been coming to wokano for many years. we love the food and the atmosphere but this past Friday night the service was terrible, I had a surprise birthday gathering for my mum, it took over 30 mins for us all to get our first drink. we ended up having to order 2 at a time as it took so long. then there was mix ups on the bill and food didn't come out and my friends still got charged for it. so was kind of a shambles. Sadly my mum said she does not think she will be wanting to go back any time soon.
Fresh and varied menu! Generous portions. All clients were happy with their meals. Even room for a late night large party-
Next time, we will order dessert first
Vast menu, but nothing stood out flavorwise.
Lacking customer service!!
Restaurant just ok. With all the similar restaurants in town, nothing would compel me to return!
My friends and I suavely meet her because they have a great rooftop/outdoor seating and a great happy hour but we came for dinner and Wokcano was very accommodating for our reservation! I made the reservation for 4 however some friends joined us that we weren't planning on and they switched us to a later table which was AWESOME. Our waiter was great and very attentive and friendly. Great prices on sushi, beer and saki!
Great night!
First visit to this restaurant. Great food, menu with a large selection of plates. Food was great and loved dining on the patio. Would go back.
The place is falling apart. Cracked tables. Torn seats. Terrible service and food not nearly at the same level as other locations. Feels like you're sitting in a restaurant that's about to go out of business.
Our server was super accomedating and helpful with our large group. He made sure we were taken care of with all our needs. He even accomediated us indoors when it began to sprinkle.
We will for sure be coming again soon.
Do not offer a grace period
We had a great time!!! Food was really fun and yummy!
Food was just okay. Not flavorful. Tried to charge 25$ for bringing a cake that we purchased. Sushi was blah, Wasabi wasn't hot and the ginger wasn't fresh.
They're happy hour is one of the best in town and it's also on the weekends. Their food is really flavorful with interesting Alain inspired tastes. Service was great. Wasn't my first time and won't be my last.
The guy at the reception was not very welcoming. It looked like he was having a bad day, or maybe he hates his job. Our waiter was very patient with us; we were seven in the group. And some were late. The food was fine. However, they decided to serve us appetizers and main dishes at the same time, without asking. Who does that? There was no room on the table for all the food. I guess they wanted to get us out the door quickly because it was a Sunday night. I will definitely think twice before going to this restaurant again. Maybe I'll just continue ordering for delivery. A very disappointing restaurant experience overall.
Awesome restaurant
Food was delicious. Only thing that ruined it for me and my date was we where seated next to a big part of 20 people so it was quite noisy
Such awesome, flavorful food!
Appetizers were very good compared to the main course. Service was good!
Late night birthday dinner. Loved the walnut shrimp and lobster shushi roll.
My husband and I always enjoy Wokano. It's close by and good food. The wonton soup wasn't as good as usual but everything else was fine. If you get there during happy hour some of the dishes can be ordered in a smaller quantity like Shrimp and Walnut one of our favorites!
Started off with a sour puss hostess. We arrived excited to be there for dinner, all smiles. Hostess was on the phone, wouldn't even bother looking up to smile or acknowledge we were there. Was not busy, Sunday night. Finally, she gets off the phone looks at us, no friendly or inviting face and says "four of you?" I said yes, we have a reservation. Didn't bother looking since it wasn't busy anyways. She grabbed menus and just started walking so we followed her up the stairs to a table. There was a huge tear in the booth seat. I looked down and said I'd rather not sit on that wearing this dress, it will scratch on my legs. There were plenty of other places to seat us. She just ignored me. Put the menus down, I gave her a look but she wasn't even looking up. My son quickly just said, it's OK Mom, we can sit on this side, so the kids sat on the seat with the 2ft tear across the vinyl bench.
It was an easy walk from the Shore Hotel in Santa Monica. Our waitress was awesome, drinks were good, the food was good and offered a wide selection. Would have given it a higher score but really, get a new hostess. That's the first impression for your restaurant and your hostess miss sourpuss face could care less about how your restaurant is represented.
This has been one of my favorite go to Pan Asian restaurants for several years. They do wonderful noodle dishes, fried rice combos, sesame shrimp (zowie).
Sushi isn't the best choice but the Chinese chicken salad is crazy good!
Always very busy, servers work hard to please, portions are generous and fair prices.
Not happy with the service. Made a 7:15 reservation via open table. When I got there w/ my entire party, the hostess insisted that my reservation was @ 7:45. We were not actually seated until 8:30. They stuck us at a table where we barely fit. What was the point of the reservation? Spent over $300. Not worth the drive nor the money.
Service was good. Food was poor.
My husband and I like the food and overall value. A go to place for us with friends too!
We were seated right away. A nice booth upstairs. It was very noisy and hard to hear the person across the table speaking.
We ordered three entree dinners that included soup, salad and a main course. We also each ordered the edamame appetizer.
The food should have come out appetizers first, then soup, salad and the main course.....instead, all of it came out together leaving no room on the table.
If that wasn't bad enough, the entrees were each not tender, but quite chewy. Poor quality. Those items were, the sashimi dinner ( last think anybody wants is chewy raw fish ), Mongolian Beef (chewy flank steak that took a long time to chew through ...if you are in the habit of eating too quickly, I recommend this dish to slow you down...each piece felt like I was chewing forever), and chicken with broccoli ( probably the only decent dish ).
Best of luck if you choose this restaurant.
Great food!! Sushi and sashimi was very fresh and servings were plenty. Also had the seaweed salad which was very tasty. Nice place and not too noisy downstairs.
Yummy food, good service, convenient location. I would recommend Wokcano to friends and family for sure.
