WK Hearth Ratings and Reviews
We love this Wine Kitchen spin-off. It's tiny, but the kitchen packs a punch and the wine flights are outstanding. On a Saturday night, the only drawback was the noise level - there were several patrons near us who had obviously had a little too much to drink, and they were raucous, to say the least. That's not typical though, and usually the noise level is energetic, but not deafening. Menu is small but well-curated, and our food was fantastic in both presentation and flavor. Our servers were very attentive and patient with questions.
The food was wonderful. I ate everything on my plate. We went for a Saturday brunch and the place was empty. The only noise we heard was from staff. Our server was good. My initial thought was that the prices were a bit high, but the ingredients were local and very fresh. We ordered eggs and bacon which too a stupid amount of time to come out. However, the owner or manager brought out a beautiful plate of cheeses and spreads as an apology for the delay. She was exceptionally nice and the spread was amazing. This should be ordered by anyone that comes here. Overall, really great experience, because of excellent and astute costumer service.
The new chef is sending out outstanding and creative dishes. Of course they have great wine selections but the new craft cocktails that we tried were fun and delicious. The ribeye and filet were excellent - locally sourced and cooked to perfection. The prices may seem high but for the quality and quantity we were pleased. We also loved the crispy glazed pork appetizer and the beautifully prepared halibut.
We were meeting friends and also dining with our daughter and her boyfriend for our meal at WK Hearth. We shared a bottle of Sangiovese wine and it was outstanding- great tasting and reasonably priced. The seared halibut was delicious with kale and bits of pumpkin in the sauce. The gnocchi had a pork ragout sauce my daughter described as fatty and heavy for the pasta. The roasted brussell sprout salad received high marks especially from our vegetarian diner. We shared desserts with the apple tart beautifully presented with the tart in one piece and a scoop of vanilla ice cream in another pastry shell and the chocolate smores cake- big enough for 4 of us to share. I would definitely come back here for a special dinner with family or friends.
WK Hearth is our favorite place to go whenever our family has cause for celebration! Our experience was lovely yet again. The duck was absolutely incredible - especially the duck confit tortellini - amazing!!
Lovely service to complement the food - thank you!
We had the pork belly, which was very tasty, just a touch over done, which made it a little dry. Also, the watch steak. It was perfectly done, but the sauce topping was less of a hit. The duck fat roasted gingerly potatoes are Devine, especially with mushrooms and onions. The service was fast, friendly and accurate.
Overall, a great experience.
I visited WK Hearth to try their new Hugo's Bar. The cocktails were fabulous, a real treasure for Loudoun County. For anyone who spends any time in Chicago as I do, it's wonderful to finally have a place with first class cocktails made with the finest of spirits and house-made bitters and syrups. Enjoy my friends, enjoy!
The Margherita pizza was way too salty. Really negatively affected my palate after eating it. The afagatto had the smallest scoop 69f ice cream in it, it wasn't something that could be shared. And you had too many specials which featured lamb/goat, which we don't really prefer. Still, got the beef/lamb meatballs and they had a decent flavor, but were also too salty.
We came back because our first trip here was awesome. We even bought a gift card for family who lives in Frederick. We were hoping for a better experience on this trip. Hopefully the next is better.
The food here was pretty good, but the menu is small. There were 4 of us and we tried the margherita pizza, short rib calzone, fettuccini and meatballs, and rock shrimp spaghetti. Hands down, the short rib calzone was heads and tails above everything else! The meatballs were dry, and the spaghetti and pizza were pretty good. Personally, I had the pizza and, while it was decent, I was still somewhat hungry when I finished it.
It was not busy when we arrived, but a bunch of people did come in after we did. However, it still took an hour to get our food. People who came in after us were served before us. When I complained to the waitress and told her it had been an hour (she never came over beforehand to apologize for the wait), she said she was sorry and would go check on our food. About 5 minutes later our dinner arrived. After we ate dinner, our waitress told us she would comp a couple of desserts for us so we ordered the s'mores chocolate cake, which sounded better than it tasted, but it wasn't bad.
Overall, it was a decent place. Not sure I'd come back though, given the wait time for the food.
We dined outside, where we were seated at the table closest to 2 heat pumps or air conditioner compressors. They were noisy and they blowed hot air in our direction during a particularly warm evening. I probably would have rated the ambience higher if we had been seated elsewhere in the restaurant, but this was our first experience there. I ordered calzone, and my wife ordered pizza. She was brought a different pizza from the one that she had ordered, realizing the mistake after taking a couple of bites of one slice. The next time the waiter came by, we told him that he had brought the wrong pizza. He quickly confessed that it was the kitchen's fault as well as his own for not noticing the error when bringing the pizza to the table. He picked up my wife's plate with the remaining 7 slices and said the correct pizza would be out shortly. It probably didn't take more than 10 minutes or so after that for the correct pizza to be brought out. But by the time it was brought out, I (or we, since she had nothing else to eat) was already done with my entree. No visit from the manager, no compensation for the inconvenience, no further mention of it at all. None of this was owed us, but their competitors have always offered compensation whenever they made a mistake that negatively impacted our experience.
We are fans of Wine Kitchen in Leesburg, but in my mind WK Hearth is better; one of the best experiences in Loudoun.
The food is interesting and exceptional; everything we ate was better than expected. Often, I find, a restaurant has a few high notes and some averages ones. Not so with WK Hearth. The cocktails are made from local spirits, and well blended... I loved their S'mores Old Fashion.
In short, eat there.
WK Hearth is easily one of the best dining experiences in Loudoun County. While I'm not a huge fan of their new 'Speakeasy' decor downstairs, the food is fresh, local, and perfectly prepared every time. Their wine list is extensive and the staff always have excellent recommendations for pairings. My wife and I have dined here several times and are always thrilled with our meals and our overall experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
If I lived closer, I would go here more often. The food is excellent without being overly rich. The wine selection is great. I enjoy getting a flight to try out different wines. The staff is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is casual and not too noisy and the prices seem reasonable.
This was our first time at WK Hearth. We haven't been to the Wine Kitchen yet, but have heard great things so we thought we'd give this place a try for a special birthday dinner date. After the past few years of only dining at kid friendly restaurants, this was a nice change of pace. We both enjoyed our dinners (chicken breast and short rib calzone), but the chicken didn't come with much else. The cheese plate we ordered was good, but nothing to rave about at all. The tiny pickles and the pickled cauliflower were not a very good addition, and I normally like pickles. The flavor was far too salty. The wine and beer selection was great. The setting was nice in the old farmhouse. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation for sure since it's such a small place. We'd go back again, but since it's a pricier restaurant it's not somewhere we'd go often.
The Loudoun County Bed & Breakfast Executive Committee likes WK Hearth so much, we formally voted to use it for our monthly working lunch meetings. Good food, great service and a private dining room to ensure a good working environment. The menu is constantly changed, so no lack of variety. Our server respects both our business purpose and lunch needs.
