Witherspoon Grill Ratings and Reviews
I don’t think people go there expecting great food. It was fine but nothing special. Salads were ok but the dressings were bland. I had blackened salmon that was dry and way over cooked. The pound cake dessert was basically dry pond cake that was grilled with a tasty cream sauce and strawberries.
We still like the place but the meal we had today was only so so.
Made a 6:30 reservation for a Wednesday night. Arrived around 30 minutes early and was seated no problem. Host staff and wait staff was friendly and made our experience exceptional. Menu had a good variety as my date is a picky eater and she had no issues finding a good meal. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a nice, easy night out.
Witherspoon Grill has gotten into a bad habit of overbooking tables. The bar gets overcrowded as people wait for their tables. We waited 25 minutes, even though we had a reservation. The hostess sent over two appetizers due to the length of our wait. We ordered wine, a bottle of $110 champagne, appetizers and dinner and after less that an hour and a half, the hostess had another patron come to our table and ask us if we were done because he was hungry and ready to eat. Shame on you Witherspoon Grill—very tacky!
Witherspoon is consistently excellent on food and service. It was simply an off night on service standard of excellence. We were seated but never served. Observing tables arriving after us receiving beverages, I felt I needed to return to hostess and request a server be sent to our table after 15 minutes without being greeted. We simply wanted to begin enjoying out night and feel Whitherspoon is consistently a sure bet. When the server did arrive we felt it was not typical experience, drinks remained empty, where we noticed. It's always busy but we never experience anything other than top shelf service. Perhaps it was an off night or perhaps statistically the off night was bound to happen. This was our night, as we fell between the high standards we always enjoy. Will we return...yes of course, simply to feel assured it was a one time thing.
The staff were fabulous as usual. They had us in a booth and we prefer non-booth. They moved a table from the other side of the restaurant to accommodate our request (it would have been so much easier for them to just say no).
Cocktails are great. Also we also have the oysters - they have a good selection that changes regularly.
This week we had the fish special which was cod in a lemon butter sauce - very good. They do a really good chopped salad too- crunchy with s lovely dressing.
Our server was so cheerful and made us feel like we were her favorite customers.
I love this restaurant! I come here all the time and am never disappointed. I went with a friend for my birthday and we only spent $50 in total after getting a meal and dessert for both of us. It was definitely worth the money. Although this is a nicer restaurant, it is fairly kid-friendly. This is the type of place that you could wear a nice dress or a pair of jeans and still be dressed correctly.
We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and it was our first time dining there. It exceeded our expectations and then some. Maurice, our server, was extremely professional and accommodating. He also wrote us a beautiful note & placed it in our check presenter after processing our payment...so sweet! We will definitely return to the Witherspoon Grill!
We have always enjoyed sitting at the bar and ordering the wedge salad and a glass of wine. This time we made a reservation for 5 in the dining room and were disappointed. We arrived early for our reservation and were told that the kitchen was closed. They offered to seat us as soon as the kitchen opened. We accepted that and my husband took our daughter outside to get some fresh air while we waited the 30 minutes for the kitchen to open. In the meantime, several parties arrived and were seated and brought drinks and bread while they perused the menus-- despite our request to be seated so we could just get some bread for our hungry child. I fully accept that restaurants have a lot to balance and didn't question being told to wait but to sit there and watch a parade of people being seated, one much larger party than ours, made no sense and if I have been the Maitre d I would have offered some sort of explanation. When we did order our food, they were out of the lamb my husband had intended to order and the veal he ordered as a back up arrived raw. Literally raw. This place is best for a drink but don't go expecting an extraordinary dining experience, the same cost will get you a better experience elsewhere.
WG was at it’s usual level of excellence. We never go out on Thanksgiving and found ourselves in the position to do just that this year. After considering several resatuarant options we went with one of our favorites, WS. They did not disappoint, the food and service were great. Never felt rushed and everyone had a great time!
Witherspoon Grill is consistently one of the best restaurants in the Princeton area. Their burgers are fabulous (10 oz.) and always cooked to perfection. The fries are terrific. Their steaks and chops are legendary and the pours are generous. Although it can be noisy, there is a back area that is quieter. Always crowded so reservations are a good idea.
The food is always great. I was shocked when we were done and the waitress scraped and stacked our dishes at the table, leaving an oily mess underneath that we had to be careful not to get our clothes in. We were shocked actually that she did it and remained speechless. When 5 for lunch is $115, you don’t expect someone to scape and stack at your table I front of you with the dishes on the table. Not sure if we will return anytime soon.
Food, as usual, was good. meat was properly cooked to order. Waitress was not really up to the task and seemed a little lost. Appetizers were all liked by everyone and were substantial in quantity. After spending a week in Italy where the wine is typically $20 a bottle served at dinner, the wine was closer to $50 a bottle. Quality was good. Pretty place.
Going there at night is better than lunch. I always seem to leave still hungry at lunch time.
This was our first visit. It’s not often everything works well, but it certainly did at Witherspoon.
The hostess, Erica, was friendly and highly responsive to a last minute seating change request. She made it all look effortless.
Jennifer, our server, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and candid about menu selections. She steered us in the right direction and our meal was absolutely delicious.
The other wait staff were efficient and friendly as well. Everything was well paced and we didn’t feel at all rushed.
We’re glad we listened to the Nassau Inn’s recommendation. Excellent food, a relaxed atmosphere and great teamwork among staff made this an outstanding experience.
First problem: my Open Table reservation was disregarded, so I received a "No Show" email from OT later that day. As for the food -- Pretty sub-par. Artichoke hearts that were promised to be fresh were absolutely canned (briney and mushy). Trout was VERY dry, French fries were pale and greasy, and chopped salad was insultingly bad -- iceberg and some thick-chopped carrots bathed in a completely flavorless white "dressing". (My friend's salad had tomatoes; mine did not.) Plusses: the Ahi tuna "martini" and the bread.
Normally LOVE this place. However, we were disappointed with the service and food the last time we went. Of course it had to happen on a day we brought out of town guests to dine with us. The children's salmon (my daughter usually cleans her plate) was left because it was greasy and did not have the nice, crisp skin outside as per usual. We also thought the price went up on this menu item. Again, I am unsure if there was a different chef? The service was slow, inattentive and lacking overall. We just left feeling sad about our experience after having given such rave reviews in the past.
We live in NYC and meet our grandson in Princeton for lunch. We always select The Witherspoon Grill because it has consistently good good, good service and it is a well run, organized restaurant. The crab salad is fantastic for the price, as are all of the other dishes we have tried.
