Witherspoon Grill Ratings and Reviews
I frequent Witherspoon Grill often. But the last two visits I have been underwhelmed. Frankly the meat quality has been under par. My last visit my bone in ribeye had some type of cartilage running through it where I could barely negotiate cutting the steak. And as a result lost a 1/3 of the meat. And for $57.00 well let’s just say it’s not Sparks.
This is a favorite restaurant in town. However, when we arrived they could not find our Open Table reservation (for which we had a confirmation). They seated us. We ordered our drinks and then dinner. Food was incredibly slow in arriving and we must have waited 15-20 minutes between our appetizer and the main course. As almost always, it's noisy. The food is very good and our waiter was friendly.
A special evening out with my 9yo daughter. She is a huge fan of Witherspoon Grill so when it came to Mom and son being away for the evening, she immediately asked me if I would take her to Witherspoon. How could I possibly say, "No"? And it never disappoints. The service is impeccable. The food delicious. You never feel like they are rushing you out the door. For kids, they actually have a steak entree; filet tips, which looks incredible. What a novel concept? Kids do not always want chicken tenders or mac and cheese. She also really liked the sundae for dessert. Alas, I simply had a cappuccino, but it was delicious. I think it is one of the best restaurants in Princeton.
We thoroughly enjoyed the salmon and sesame tuna options. The kid's cheeseburger left something to be desired. Food is excellent; our waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed, but managed to get our food and drinks out to us. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.
The food was very good. Our waiter was excellent. But, if you are looking for a relaxing dining atmosphere, this may not be the place to go.
There were several large tables of guests that brought young children. We have children but wouldn't let them scream most of the evening in a restaurant. It was a bit noisy.
We had visited Witherspoon Grill for brunch a year or so ago, and thought it might be interesting to try it for dinner. The place is obviously popular, with a festive, energetic crowd having a good time (so much so that table conversation was kind of difficult). I had the rack of lamb (which was very good and an astonishingly large portion of eight lamb chops) and my wife had the cod special, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant offered a good selection of wines by the glass. The restaurant is a good choice for a quick informal bite, not so much for a special occasion.
Witherspoon Grill is our “special occasion” place. We have been there several times. Last time we were there, we could notice a difference in the food quality. But, we thought perhaps they were having an off day. Unfortunately, the food quality was a lot worst this time. The onion soup was so salty that we could barely finish it. I ordered a ribeye and mashed potatoes. I asked for my steak to be well done. When I cut into it, it was so red inside, I think it mooed. The mashed potatoes were barely lukewarm. My partner, whose birthday we were celebrating, got her usual lobster Mac-n-Cheese. There was about an inch and a half of bread crumbs on top of it and barely any lobster. Needless to say, she was disappointed. The peanut butter lava cake which is our absolute favorite was just ok. It seems like this restaurant is following suit of cutting corners in their food preparation. It is sad to say but we agreed that it is time to find a new “special occasion” place. On a side note, our reservation was for 7:30. We were not seated until 8:10.
Witherspoon Grill is one of our favorite in-town restaurants. One of the best Bloody Marys with just the right amount of spice and horseradish, creative Brunch selections and service that you would expect from a well run restaurant. The split pea soup was the best - wish they had it more often! The short ribs with eggs and crab toasties are favs!
It has been awhile since we last ate here and we were very pleasantly surprised. Everything we ordered was very tasty and the service was very good. Though my husband enjoyed his cioppino, it was very salty. My crab cake was delicious as were the chopped salad and crab dip. One problem is that it is a bit noisy....energetic one may say and I am sure it is a level that many would not mind.
This restaurant was a very pleasant surprise. We had one of the cheapest wine bottles on the menu, and it ended up being among the best white wines we have had at restaurants for similar prices. The meals are affordable for what you get and we highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions.
I often come here for lunch. The food can be very good but sadly it is inconsistent. I like the lemon chicken which ranges from outstanding to mediocre. This last time in was pale and rubbery. The time before it was nicely browed and tender. I'll keep ordering it and next time I will remind them to make sure the chicken is browned. The portions are very generous. I had leftover chicken for two lunches. I browned it and it was much better tasting than in the restaurant.
