Witherspoon Grill Ratings and Reviews
The food is always great. I was shocked when we were done and the waitress scraped and stacked our dishes at the table, leaving an oily mess underneath that we had to be careful not to get our clothes in. We were shocked actually that she did it and remained speechless. When 5 for lunch is $115, you don’t expect someone to scape and stack at your table I front of you with the dishes on the table. Not sure if we will return anytime soon.
Food, as usual, was good. meat was properly cooked to order. Waitress was not really up to the task and seemed a little lost. Appetizers were all liked by everyone and were substantial in quantity. After spending a week in Italy where the wine is typically $20 a bottle served at dinner, the wine was closer to $50 a bottle. Quality was good. Pretty place.
Going there at night is better than lunch. I always seem to leave still hungry at lunch time.
This was our first visit. It’s not often everything works well, but it certainly did at Witherspoon.
The hostess, Erica, was friendly and highly responsive to a last minute seating change request. She made it all look effortless.
Jennifer, our server, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and candid about menu selections. She steered us in the right direction and our meal was absolutely delicious.
The other wait staff were efficient and friendly as well. Everything was well paced and we didn’t feel at all rushed.
We’re glad we listened to the Nassau Inn’s recommendation. Excellent food, a relaxed atmosphere and great teamwork among staff made this an outstanding experience.
First problem: my Open Table reservation was disregarded, so I received a "No Show" email from OT later that day. As for the food -- Pretty sub-par. Artichoke hearts that were promised to be fresh were absolutely canned (briney and mushy). Trout was VERY dry, French fries were pale and greasy, and chopped salad was insultingly bad -- iceberg and some thick-chopped carrots bathed in a completely flavorless white "dressing". (My friend's salad had tomatoes; mine did not.) Plusses: the Ahi tuna "martini" and the bread.
Normally LOVE this place. However, we were disappointed with the service and food the last time we went. Of course it had to happen on a day we brought out of town guests to dine with us. The children's salmon (my daughter usually cleans her plate) was left because it was greasy and did not have the nice, crisp skin outside as per usual. We also thought the price went up on this menu item. Again, I am unsure if there was a different chef? The service was slow, inattentive and lacking overall. We just left feeling sad about our experience after having given such rave reviews in the past.
We live in NYC and meet our grandson in Princeton for lunch. We always select The Witherspoon Grill because it has consistently good good, good service and it is a well run, organized restaurant. The crab salad is fantastic for the price, as are all of the other dishes we have tried.
The food was delicious, and our waiter was attentive without being overbearing. The only downside is that the restaurant does get loud. On a busy Saturday night, hearing conversation from across the table was sometimes a struggle. However, this would not deter me from returning nor would it deter me from recommending the Witherspoon Grill to friends and colleagues.
Best burgers ever! We had a reservation and had to wait 10 minutes to be seated at a table that had been empty since we arrived, so that was a little annoying, but not too terrible. Our server was lovely, but the food service was a bit slow. There was a long wait for our burgers after the appetizers. We were with good company so didn't mind, but it seemed like either our server had too many tables or maybe the kitchen was backed up (it was a hopping Saturday night, so again this is sort of understandable). I would still return and overall would recommend it to others!
Love it here! Met an old friend for dinner and amazing pear martinis. Casual chic atmosphere and great food! Everyone working there is so accommodating and seem to be enjoying themselves. I find it so refreshing to go out and be among happy, polished employees. The high standards correlate with the overall experience. Very refreshing! 🍸🍸🍸
Having two brothers visiting from out of state, I wanted to impress them with their little sister's choice of living in Mercer County, so based on a colleague's suggestion of a few restaurants in Princeton, I selected the Witherspoon Grill based on the menu & location. I was pleased that I could reserve a window seat with a confirmation of my reservation the day before, but more so, the lunch left a lasting impression on my family.
We were very disappointed with the food. We both ordered the filet and both were not cooked as ordered. We sent one back to the kitchen however, even after they brought it out a second time, it was still not as ordered. We wound up returning it altogether. Certainly not worth it considering the cost. Disappointing.
The staff graciously kept our reservation. Washington St was closed and we arrived 20 minutes late! We were seated in a comfortable booth in the main room and had great food and service. But the music is TOO loud in that setting; we could not hear each other speak. For the price of the food, not worth it, despite the best efforts of the kitchen and the staff.
