Wishbone - Lincoln Ratings and Reviews
We love Wishbone. It is perfect for Sunday brunch, breakfast alone on a Tuesday morning, or dinner with the kids on a snowy night after ice skating. The shrimp and grits are one of our favorite dishes and the kids love the pancakes. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
I am very sorry, but actually, I did not make it to this reservation. However, I have been to Wishbone many times & I love the atmosphere, and the food-- it's always been very good service, too. I will continue to go there when I am in the Lakeview hood & I recommend it to my friends!
I grew up eating Southern cooking and this is not close. It is weird because I have ordered their take out and enjoyed it. When I came to the restaurant and ordered salmon crouquettes they were mushy. They were not crisp on the outside. My salad was good, but who messes up salad. It was not as good as I expected. I will continue to do my southern cooking at home.
If you don't have children, make sure to sit in the adults only part of the restaurant. Overall, the food was fresh but bland to my taste. The brisket was very dry but the sauce with it was over the top spicy. Crab cakes were mushy and really didn't have a crab flavor. The specail of steaks were hapilly received. The trout was excellent. Margaritas were so bitter and flavorless: these were the berry and strawberry, but the sangria was excellent.
Wishbone is a convenient, neighborhood restaurant. The cajun entrees lack a little in authenticity, but will appeal to a less
discriminating diner. The food is good, if not spectacular. It has a family atmosphere and there are lots of noisy kids; not exactly a date night place. The service was attentive.
I like to eat at Wishbone because the food is good and fresh, the ambience unpretentious but fun and not chain-style design, portions are ample and the prices are moderate. I like the way the food is prepared and the choices, although, when I ate my "doggie box" remains the next day, they seemed a bit salty.
My only problem is when there are families, or, young children in particular. We got there and it was quiet, but then a baby started crying and kept crying for quite a while. Also, the music was a little loud, probably because it had been turned up during the busy period, but there weren't a lot of diners, and when I asked if it could please be turned down, since I couldn't hear my dinner partner, they were fine with doing i
The on-line menu seemed more extensive than the in-restaurant menu. Some of the dishes were seasonal, we were told, not offered every day. The food was not hot enough when it arrived. Our waitperson was not attentive at all -- e.g., we asked specifically for the french fries to be served on a separate plate, not on the same plate as the entre, and yet when the dinner arrived, the fries were served with the entre. When we pointed this out to her, her response: oh, there must be miscommunication! She did not come back to offer more coffee; I had to look for her and ask for more coffee. The restaurant is spacious and the food was okay, but we were rather disappointed in the service.
OH MY GOD! Talk about wonderful! Wishbone's food is amazing! I ordered the shrimp and grits and I couldn't get enough! It was soooooo good! My boyfriend, who is hard to impress, was also very pleased. He ate all of his steak and suggested Wishbone for dinner on our second night in Chi town. If you like great food and service visit Wishbone on Lincoln!
1st time at Wishbone - The food was good the Margaritas were GREAT! actually had liquor in it. We loved the fact that it was kid friendly almost every table had a child and the children menu has a lot of variety. The downside of the experience was not enough wait staff for a Saturday night. Seemed liked like each waiter/waitress had could not be as attentive as they should be.
I had only been to Wishbone for breakfast a few times years ago. The food was fabulous but service very slow, so we didn't go back. Then we got a coupon from public radio for 1/2 off for dinner. We didn't even know that they served dinner. Wow... were we surprised! I assumed that most of the entrees would be heavy comfort food but were really pleased to see a number of fish dishes on the menu. I ordered the salmon and vegetables in parchment and my husband ordered the trout. They were fabulous, light, flavorful and cooked perfectly. Plus we got 2 sides included as well. They also had a great white wine for only $13 a bottle! The total bill was only $44!~~ BEFORE the 1/2 off coupon. So I gave the wait person a big tip....HE was great!
I've been going to Wishbone(s) for 10 years or more...for breakfast, brunch, and dinner. It's always delicious, always a lot of choices, and always at reasonable prices. I had grilled trout, spinach, coleslaw, and hoppin' john....all for about $12. oh, and the incredible corn muffins, too. One can eat healthy, believe it or not, or indulge. I hope Wishbone's around for another 10 - 20 - 30 years.
As always, the food and service at Wishbone is exceptional. I have not been there on a Saturday morning in a very long time and was dismayed in seeing a long line of strollers parked outside the restaurant. When my guest and I walked in, we heard nothing but the unbearable screams and cries of infants and small kids all throughout the main dining room. I have a very low threshold for things like this and, as a paying customer, have a right to eat in some semblance of peace; otherwise, the dining experience becomes unbearable. Before I even said anything, my guest and I were taken to the adjacent dining area which was much more quiet. Thank God! Love their crab benedict and fried potatoes with onions. The server, Maria, is a gem!
Wishbone continues to have delicious and healthful food made from scratch, with balanced portions of meat and vegetables as an entree.
I took my friend, who had never been there, for a birthday dinner celebration. We had excellent martinis, and a free birthday dessert; and an overall very pleasurable dining experience.
