This was a date night for my husband and myself, and our second visit to Wish. The atmosphere is always welcoming and staff is friendly. We tend to order steak so can't comment on the rest of the menu. Bruce had prime rib and I had filet. We both had twice baked potatoes and opened with cheese curds. All our selections were excellent.
The steaks were fabulous and the French onion soup was delicios. The service was slow but it was busy since it was valentine's day. Our table was very small and I wished we had a booth
Filet Mignon was excellent as were the garlic mashed potatoes!
It’s definitely a nice place but the food and overall presentation is not worth what is being charged for simple filet. Any amount of butter and too much salt can make anything taste good. The waitress seemed like she was on crack and couldn’t wait to get us out of there.
Steaks were fantastic! A little expensive, but was not disappointed on the flavor.
Even though we had a reservation we waited 49 minutes for our table. After ordering we waited almost an hour for our food.
This had to be one of the worst dining experiences my husband and I have ever had. We asked for bread and never received it and had to ask twice. The waiter did not know how to open a bottle of wine. We waited over 20 minutes for our drinks. After we received our salad and soup we waited An hour and 40 minutes for our entrees. The waiter never came to apologize for the wait and never offered to refill our glasses with fresh ice water. Food was not hot and it was just ok. Very disappointed with the slow service, especially for the price we paid. Will not be going back.
Service was slow didn't seem like time was used wisely. Food over all was good. But the Baked Mac and cheese was loaded with grease. I love to have a frothy salted butter for my steak and their butter is fake oil based butter not very good. And was not offered any steak sauces, wasn't offered any sour cream foe the mashed potatoes etc. For how much we paid we won't be back for a long time...
Outstanding food and atmosphere. Thank you to Taylor who gave us excellent service and attention!
Best Fish Fry on the Planet! Hands down, the haddock fish fry is outstanding!
This is my second review for this restaurant and unfortunately this experience was far different than the first review. The service was extremely slow both at the bar and once we were seated at our table. The flatbread and gnocchi specials were tasting though a little heavy on the garlic. The steak on the other hand was a huge disappointment. For this place being a steak house, both times I have come for steak, the steak has been overcooked. This time, not only was the steak overcook but the ribeye tasted more like a strip with very little flavor to it. I think they were short staffed, probably not anticipating the large crowds given it was the Friday after Thanksgiving. Given there are few nice restaurants in the area, we will probably be back but not because of the food or service this time.
Excellent dinner from the appetizer to the steak dinner to dessert! Fabulous experience!!
We enjoyed a family birthday dinner at WISH. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The restraunt was lovely with a large bar area. The food was fantastic. It will be added to our list of favorite restraunts in the Wausau area.
Was very disappointed with the quality of or steak and prime rib!
Both the Rib Eye Steak and Prime Rib where on the "tough" side and where a big disappointment, far from what one would expect from an Steak House specializing in Steak and charging a premium price.
Great service and fabulous food!
Lovely meal cooked as requested with a marvelous presentation. The nutty caramel drink was delicious.
We dine at Wish regularly. The appetizer of the night was a flatbread with Italian toppings. It was excellent, and served nice and hot; the best part of the meal really. We ordered the Walleye special for our main course, and although it was passable, I thought the fish lacked the flavor I have experienced at Wish on other occasions. The beer list has some very good items on it that are hard to find in the area. Wine list was OK but almost devoid of Wisconsin wines, of which there are many now. Local Wausau wines would have been interesting as an addition to the regular Sonoma/Napa fare on the list. All in all, our dining experience was quite good, but not as good as we expected. We will still be back however. :-)
Nice relaxed atmosphere and very good food.
Had a reservation and got seat 30 min after our reservation. The steak was over cooked and the service was horrible.
We had a less than a stellar experience due to a large party that the restaurant was under staffed for. Instead of being able to dine in the restaurant we were made to eat in the bar area , which was not what we had made our reservation for The bartender was tasked to not only fulfill drink orders for the large party, but she was also deemed our waitress as well. Although the food was good, our overall experience left us with a pricey bill and we definitely think twice about coming back.
The restaurant was great with very professional staff and amazing food. The only thing that may discourage you ( especially city folks like us ) is the location off the side road across from forest, but please walk inside cause you will be pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended!!!
Dinner for 2 not worth $114 I've had better steaks at Texas Roadhouse. Service was excellent too bad the steaks were not
Wish is located in an out of the way (somewhat difficult to find) area near Wausau, WI. The ambience is casual but attractive. The menu is limited but offers a nice variety of both meat and fish dishes. The rib eye steak was excellent and my wife enjoyed halibut done in the Oscar style. There is a short but very nice wine list covering a wide spectrum of price points. Service was very pleasant and efficient.
We made a last minute reservation for fish after we couldn't find anywhere without a 2 hour wait. We were pleasantly surprised that they had a special on Fridays of a 3 piece fish fry. It was the best fish fry I have ever had. It was 3 pieces of Haddock fish that was perfectly fried, not greasy or watery at all. The service was outstanding and dealt with our group of 8 (2 being small children) very well.
Dinner was good. A few things could be changed. Chili was a bit too sweet. My ribeye was a tad to salty. The walleye was great and the red cabbage with goat cheese was fabulous. The service was impeccable.
We had a state basketball tournament and whenever we travel we like to find good local steak houses. My husband found this one on line and it didn't disappoint. There were 8 of us and they put us in a private corner. The food was great and there was a variety to choose from. Would definitely go back if we were in the area again.
We eat here a few times a year...special occasion... or just wanting a really good steak. This visit was because my daughter had came to town for us to meet her new boyfriend. He told us he was a steak man, so we said we had perfect place. When he got his steak he said it tasted really peppery, my daughter tasted it to she said the same thing. When the watress was asked. She said that there was no pepper on it. She did give us 2 drink coupons for next time we came. This visit was a disappointment.
Usually the service and food is outstanding, but my recent visit did not live up to this. The service, while very friendly, was slow and sparse in comparison to prior visits. Our main course didn't arrive until after an hour of being seated. The dirty martini was not well-balanced, nor did it have a hint of brininess even after a request for more olive juice. The calamari appetizer, soup, salad, and truffle fries were delicious. The shrimp and scallops were quite overdone and preferred the scallop dish with the gnocchi vs. this newer wild rice version. A bit underwhelmed overall this time, but still keeping on my favorite places to dine list.
