Winston's Grille Ratings and Reviews
I had requested a booth (because I have back problems and the chairs are quite uncomfortable) three days prior to the reservation. When we arrived, we were told that there was no booth available, other than in the bar. This is the second time that we have asked for a booth and our request was ignored. We took the booth in the bar area, which was a little cramped. It was also near the kitchen, which is less than idea. Also, the service in the bar was not as good as what we experienced in the regular seating area. Lately, though, the service has seemed slower than usual. It was also very very hot in there on a warm summer evening. Winston's is our favorite restaurant and we go there with friends and family regularly. This was not our best experience there. The food was very good though.
Winston's never fails to impress me or the friends or family I bring there. I brought an out--of-town friend this time and she can't wait to come back (and she is not easily impressed!)! Great management, great staff, great food, great atmosphere, great music, great prices. Is there any reason to eat any where else??
The bleu cheese chips were LOADED with bleu cheese; the only problem was that some chips became unappealingly soggy while others remained crisp. Not sure how to solve this but it is something to keep in mind for bleu cheese lovers. Everything was good but nothing was outstanding. A bit pricey for what one gets.
We had undoubtedly the best server we have had the pleasure to deal with in recent memory. She wrote nothing down, was as attentive as she could be, was as cute as a button, forgot nothing and couldn't do enough for all of her tables. You can't improve on the food EVER so the service becomes tatamount.
I have been to Winstons many times. It has generally been a better than average place to go. Unfortunately this time one of the meals arrived to the table very burned. Visually you could tell it. I was surprised that the server even brought it to the table. But he laughed as we were trying to tell him it was burned.. When mentioned to the waitress, she took it away. It was several minutes before that dish came back and the other entrée, a salad, had to sit in the sun until the burned one was redone. No concession was made by the restaurant. No manager came to the table to apologize. I would probably go back given that most of my experiences at Winstons have been good.
Being at Winstons on a Friday, even with reservations can be trying. My wife and I had 7:15 reservations, but were not seated until at least 7:35. To compound this, there were tables available(4 tops though, although there were other couples sitting at 4's) This was not the most distressing part of the evening, however. Under NO circumstance should food take 50 minutes to arrive after the order has been given to the server. The food was hot, which means it wasn't sitting under a heat lamp, but the wait was unacceptable. Food was good, service was good, but two plates of bread didn't make up for the extra long wait.
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary. We arrived on a few minutes before our reservation, and ended up waiting about 20 mins after reservation until a hostess finally addressed us to see if we would like a 6 person table. She said we could sit there but we'd need to make sure to be done eating in less than an hour because someone else with a reservation would be arriving. This seemed very rude. We also witnessed the same waitress having a sarcastic attitude with other staff and patrons. We opted to eat outside (an option a different hostess recommended). Our server was polite, and the food was good overall. My steak was good, but my husband's tuna was overcooked. We had a $50 gift card which we gave to the server, but discovered later that for some reason she didn't apply it and our credit card was charged for the full price + tip of the meal. My husband had to call the restaurant back to work it out after the fact. Overall it was a disappointment. Perhaps we were expecting too much?
Tuesday I entertained a friend on her birthday with lunch at Winston's. We have worked together for approximately 25 years and we always take each other to lunch at Winston's on our birthdays or as close as we can. We always eat the Black & Blue Salad.
Of course I enjoy eating there at other times for lunch and dinner. However, this birthday "thing" is our birthday ritual. Forget how it got started, now we cannot stop.
