Wink and Nod
Wink & Nod operates a rotating kitchen where every 6 months, we invite a new restaurant group to run our kitchen and experiment with dishes as bold and creative as our cocktails. With this program, Wink & Nod hopes to contribute to the development of up-and-coming Chefs by providing them with a restaurant platform in which to operate and showcase their talent. Please check our website www.winkandnod.com for the latest menus, and follow us on social media @wink_and_nod (Instagram) and facebook.com/winkandnod (Facebook) to get the latest information about specials, events, parties, etc.
Current menu is very bar food and animal protein heavy, although last time I was there with a different kitchen the food was still very underwhelming. The signature drinks carry a steep price, $13-$15 on average, but are not satisfying. Either unremarkable (the “American Girl”) or boozy to the point of undrinkable. Tried ordering a simple G&T finally thinking that a safe bet, but the poor was so heavy had to request more tonic to dilute it (and was charged an extra $3 for that to add to the insult). Our server was either badgering is to order with barely a minute to look at the menu or disappeared for long lengths of time. I’ve been to wink and nod at least six times and I’m sad to say each time is more disappointing with how uneven the experience has been. I don’t think I’ll be back.
Never had a bad experience here...drinks and food are always great!
Had a lovely evening at Wink and Nod. I love the idea of going into an unassuming front door of the restaurant and was into a beautiful space with with excellent food and drink. We ordered a lot of food and it was all delicious. Our only complaint was that it ended up being much more expensive than our typical evening out. Really fun!
Noisy, food funky but not that good. We didn’t finish any of the four dishes we tried.
Hush is a creative and wonderful new addition for W+N.
Cocktails are always great.
Not sure why this place has rave reviews aside from their drink selection. Food was awful and clearly made by an amateur with no oversight. Cold chunks of foie gras was like eating cubes of butter, not enjoyable and a sad waste of a high end ingredient. Not sure how the meatballs were so dry if they had bone marrow in it. Chicken breast coated in breading falling off does not equal nuggets, not good ones anyway. Overall, overwhelmingly disappointing.
Great food service and ambiance
Great speak-easy like environment. Extensive cocktail menu. Cool concept with rotating chef/food menu but underwhelming dishes. Overpriced. Would recommend for atmosphere and drinks
The food group running the kitchen/drinks when I went was called Hush. Food was tapas style roughly around $15 per plate. Drinks were also around $13-15 per. Both incredible. Vibes were great too. Very solid date spot, would be ideal for a weekend night to get drinks then go out. Would recommended.
We were in love as soon as we walked in the door, it was super dark, but gorgeous, however, our opinion quickly began to shift. The tables were all in the bar area so they were very close together and because it was extremely loud, we were sharing conversations with the people on either sides of us. We tried 2 different white wines and neither was very good. I informed our server of an allergy, and she brought a dish, that did not state mushrooms on the menu, but was covered in them. The food was ok but nothing special we would go back for.
Insanely salty unappetizing food. $20 wine glass was off and mediocre. Server was nice and prompt. Overall a terribly overpriced experience.
Great tapas pop up in a speak easy atmosphere with delicious food but very small portions. Good cocktails and excellent service. Great ambiance
Of the four kitchens we have enjoyed, we found this one to be the least successful. Nonetheless, the vibe and service at Wink and Nod is always fabulous.
Completely chaotic kitchen. If you order three courses they will all arrive at once with no apology. I was made to eat an extremely bland and unseasoned crab pasta as fast as I could so my wagyu dumplings didn’t get cold. Didn’t matter - even warm they would have been bad - extremely salty with dry hardened noodle edges. The chicken nuggets were better, and went well with the mezcal cocktail I ordered, but overall very disappointing
Good food - some interesting flavor combinations, the octopus in particular was fantastic. Popcorn and Spicy Tuna roll were not up to the same standard as the rest. Very loud for a dinner setting, but fun music. Good cocktails. Wait staff were friendly and helpful, but seemed very busy.
This place was excellent! The service, ambiance, drinks, but most importantly the food! I love their concept of rotating in chefs, always keeping it fresh and new. The current American tapas style plates are all amazing! I tried four of the dishes and really can't choose which was my favorite! Wish I lived closer 😩
The atmosphere and service were good. The menu sounded great; however, the food and wine were disappointing. All of the food came out cold. The meatballs were also very dry. Our server's response was that it's hard to get good kitchen staff for pop-up restaurants. The wine selections are popular brands that are pretty marked up and not that high-end. I might try it again when a different restaurant comes in, but I won't be going back for this one.
Wink and Nod was wonderful. It was our first visit and we will return. We enjoy the small plate formate and Wink and Nod had a wide variety to choose from. We selected the pot stickers, octopus, burger (great fries) and the crab carbonara (really spectacular). The wine-by-the-glass selections were limited, but there was at least one selection for everyone's taste. We sat at the bar and had a view of the making of the numerous cocktails available.
No dessert. “Chef too new to work through menu”.
Music so loud you couldn’t hear the waitress AT ALL.
The food here was phenomenal! We really enjoyed the grilled octopus. It is a tapas place in Boston so the dishes were pretty pricey. We did sit under the speaker which made it difficult to hear at some points. Would go again.
We didn't love this restaurant. The menu had apparently just rotated from Italian to Tapas and our waiter did not seem to know what he was doing. He was unfamiliar with the menu and also ran away after we ordered one small tapa without asking if we were ordering anything else (we were). We had to literally wave him down later to add food to our order. Drinks were surprisingly slow considering we were there on a Tuesday night and not a weekend, though they were tasty and made well. The food was tasty but I think they need to clarify the menu regarding tapas sizing. Some of the menu items were obviously tapa size based on their description but others - like the burger - was really just one slider. Ambiance here was cool and we appreciated the decor.
EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. The place is so discreet and sexy it makes me want to have an affair
The place is beautiful and the food is excellent but our server was clueless, rude and behaved as though we were imposing on her by ordering. The cocktails came out incredibly slowly, which was fine, so we tried to order another round while we were still on our first and she lectured us about how it was “illegal” (!!!) to put drink order in before we’d finished the ones we were drinking. Her general attitude was extremely unpleasant and borderline hostile. When she brought us the check she said we were “fun” which left us mystified. Bottom line is I would go back but with fingers crossed for a different server.
Unique and creative venue/decor "speakeasy": atmosphere very special.
Great idea to rotate chefs each 6 months.
Major flaw is electronic music at 90 decibels. Would be better to have music match the speakeasy ambiance and at a level that fit conversation rather than dance floor.
cocktails are unique and good.
had red wine in a white wine glass with drops on the base of the glass.
every food dish to die for
Cocktails were overpriced but not too great (had the Mexican Radio, was hoping for a more spicy, more interesting mix...)
Food was good, nothing outstanding though.
Better than expected food. Service could have been better. The ambiance was interesting- very dark and sultry. The decor and furniture felt more like we needed a cigar and it was a male high society kind of place.
The restaurant and bar are very cool and have a hip vibe. Our server didn’t know much about the menu and was very unimpressive. I think for a place with such an interesting concept of a rotating kitchen the server should be much more knowledgeable. The food was also fine. I would recommend for a drink and appetizer but not worth it for a whole meal
Delicious food & drinks, nice ambiance. We'd return to try another chef for sure!
Too pricey and not enough choice & the waiter was rushing so much
Or if the for of us, everyone loved their meals and cleared their plates. Drinks were also great and creative. The restaurant was a very dark and the music a little loud, but it is the South End (hip) so not terribly surprising.
Came here for my birthday and made a reservation for 2! The food was really good and the drinks were tasty. I would recommend this place for a special occasion as this is a pricey place. Overall, really good experience!
felt like a hotel lobby, loud house music all night.
Craft cocktails amazing rotating chef with cuisine to please this place does it best and well! Loved dinging here and learning about a beautiful
Hidden gem in the south end!!
Premium cocktails! The meal is limited but each dish appeared to be well thought out. The fresh pastas were so delicious.
Both apps and entries were extremely good, recommend the duck confit.
The food and drinks are amazing. The server was very knowledgeable and the service was great. The atmosphere is fantastic.
Loved the ambiance and drinks, but the choices in the menu were limited and a bit pricey for the quality. Since it is supposed to be a rotating kitchen- hope to go back when one of the kitchens with a more varied menu comes up!
Great drinks Julian the bartender is the best, server Aaron was great, great to have Tony Susi’s food.
Food and drink were wonderful, the ambiance was really great. Disappointed with service. Seemed to be understaffed which I can understand but the server was not attentive and forgot to come back to take our orders for the main course. Instead of staying for dessert we left and went somewhere else. I think it may have been an off night for the restaurant, I hope.
The food was excellent. I had the strip stank and it was perfectly seasoned and tender. The duck confit fennel salad was fantastic. There was a great selection of whisky but the price point was too high
