We were finishing up our California vacation with an overnight stop in Santa Barbara. It was my husband’s birthday, so we researched and made reservations several weeks before our trip. The restaurant exceeded my expectations. The French Onion Soup might have been the best I’ve ever had. We honestly thoroughly enjoyed every dish and the wine list was very nice. Our service was fantastic, recommendations were spot on, and atmosphere was cozy as well. Don’t pass this restaurant up if you’re in Santa Barbara!
Not sure when the new chef arrived, but this was some of the best food I have had in Santa Barbara in a long time. Unique twist on popular dishes such as the Pacific White Sea Bass, the braised short ribs, the foie gras, all were delectable. Our waiter was a true pro, the ambience like fine dining demands. Can't wait to go back soon.
The food was delicious and the service terrific. Appreciated getting 1,000 points for the early dining. I highly recommend it.
We made a reservation based on other reviews indicating it was the place to go in Santa Barbara for the "best overall experience." It was not. Our first server got cut due to slow business on Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend, so the place was not in high demand. My friend's filet was overcooked; the second filet was under-cooked. My scallops were under-cooked but I did not send them back. They comped her meal, but it didn't really makeup for the entire bad dining experience. She left hungry and we both left dissatisfied.
Disappointed in slow service of food, no one loved their food, & no birthday dessert for free!!
So definitely not the place to go to celebrate a birthday...we had two we were celebrating!
Waitress was wonderful but couldn't make up for everything else.
It was a beautiful, quiet setting for our anniversary/birthday celebration! Service was excellent, as was the food!
Service was lacking, especially on an special evening. Poured our own wine, did not have real sea salt, poor mgmt of food course delivery. Forgot key items of dinner adds.
We had a great meal at wine cask. The short rib is awesome. Thank you!
In the past, our dinners have been very good to excellent, but not last Saturday night. The crab cake starter was tasteless; the New York Steak was underdone, and the apple fritters were just so-so (too much caramel and not enough taste of apple.
Service was quite good, but our table seemed to have been tucked into a corner, leaving us feeling claustrophobic.
Loved the Wine Cask Restaurant. We were there for an anniversary and it was a great noise level (very low), outstanding service, and the food was to die for. Scallops, and the daily Risotto ---just great. The dessert was especially good (although everything was)--- the lemon meringue ice cream tart. The lemon flavors were out of this world. I would recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat.
The menu is shockingly sparse, but the scallop dish was excellent. We've had it two times in the last 6 months when in Santa Barbara and it is worth returning for. However, there was nothing else on the menu that attracted either of us. The fried calamari was mushy and way below the average of any calamari I have ever ordered anywhere.
Service was excellent, patio was quiet and pleasant, wine by the glass was an excellent choice, but $16 for a 6 oz pour of a wine that retails for $25 means they are charging 2.5 times retail, which is on the high side.
Wonderful destination for a special dinner especially if you are visiting Santa Barbara.
The ambiance is beautiful and up to date. They have paid attention to a lot of detail in their decor--be sure to look up and appreciate the ceiling. Our food was super tasty and our service was spectacular! We are not from Santa Barbara but this restaurant will be at the top of our list when we return! This place is fabulous for a nice dinner out!
This was our second trip. Our first trip, we had the chef's menu which was amazing. We went back to try a few more things and had another great meal. This place is quiet and a low - key, something we appreciate. Plus a large fireplace is great ambiance.
We came to wine cask to celebrate my 30th Bday.
Christopher was our guy! Service as expected to be good was not that. It was beyond exceptional. Food and wine knowledge, all that jazz but more importantly an inviting and welcoming and patient with us. We knew what we wanted and he still directed us for a better time. Six stars out of five.
Executive chef and the BOH is doing it proper. Thank you wine cask!!!!
Nuri was our waiter. He was very knowledgeable, gracious and charming. You couldn’t ask for better service. The food was delicious. My wife had the cod which was perfect. I had the braised ribs. I always love them here because the flavor is so deep and intense. Wow, it is terrific. We frequently come here for our anniversaries.
I prefer my wines to have the same intensity as my main courses. But alas, sommeliers don’t think wine should stand alone as a strong flavor course on its own. Nuri helped by suggesting I taste the wine before deciding. I was able to get pretty close to my preferred flavor threshold.
We loved the evening and always recommend this place to our family and friends as one of our favorite restaurants in Santa Barbara.
Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere, and great service!
Ordered the tasting menu. Took almost three hours. Frequently sat for long periods with no food on the table. Very poor timing. Ran out of water frequently. Food excellent. If they could figure out the timing of their tasting menu would highly recommend.
Very welcoming. Excellent service. Food is outstanding. Overall, highly recommended.
Highly recommended - exquisite, subtle, fine flavors, excellent service, c-o-m-f-o-r-t-a-b-l-e,
good for conversation, in a Santa Barbara heritage site.
Wine Cask came highly recommended by a friend and the meal etc did not disappoint. We got married at the Courthouse and then had our celebration dinner there. Everything was delicious and the ambience was fancy enough for the occasion! Our server surprised us with a champagne toast on the house too. We really appreciated that!
I love love love the Wine Cask! The Embiance is romantic and elegant! The food was deliciously superb! We had leek and potatoe soup, the duck, shortribs and the warm chocolate chip cookie! Everything was scrumptious and the service was impeccable!
Had a wonderful evening. Enjoyed the chefs tasting menu and wine pairings. Very fun and delicious.
Such a rare treat to have both *excellent* staff awareness about celiac disease *and* so many high-quality options. I honestly couldn’t pick one favorite dish I had, but the scallops alone were definitely worth going back for.
Food was very good. Service was mediocre at best. Forgot something we ordered and was non attentive.
I have to agree with other recent reviews. Great service and ambience. I dined there for Valentine’s Day and the menu consisted of some regular menu items and some specials. I had the duck confit salad for my first course and the filet for my entree. The duck was overly salted which was disappointing. Otherwise, I would have really enjoyed the salad. The filet was served with asparagus and potatoes au gratin. Temperature for filet was great was well as seasoning. The potatoes were over salted as well. Dessert (creme brûlée) was underwhelming with a very thick sugar crust. Overall, disappointing but consistent with other reviews. So I wasn’t surprised. I was just hoping for a different outcome. My date was underwhelmed as well.
Special dinner for Valentine’s Day. All was very good.
Perfect Valentine's date with my wife. We ate an early dinner (because I didn't plan ahead!) but it was wonderful. Our waiter was informative, funny and was clearly a foodie. Love this place.
Delightful Valentine’s Day lunch.
They just can't get it together. While practically empty, we had to repeatedly ask for water and bread (which came with the check). The food itself is bland, uninspired, and overdressed. What happened to one of the best restaurants we had in the City, if not the whole West Coast?
I love, love, love the foie grass. My steak tartar was not exactly the way I like it prepared, needed a raw egg and some scallions or onions for crunch and zing. The service was excellent, our server left both of our plates until we were both finished, a rarity today to see things done correctly.
1st class dining. Quiet, superb service. Excellent food and wine selection. Our favorite dining for the two of us.
Warm ambience. Food was excellent and the presentation was interesting and beautiful. Service was excellent. A wonderful dining experience.
Old & stuffy! Food was great, just too bad service & hospitality was not.
Amazing Birthday dinner, enjoyed it so much, staff was great, will definitely be back!
Christmas dinner and menus was very good and nice
Food and ambiance v nice. Service ok - no pepper offered on salad until finished.
Pork and creme brulee outstanding
Food was good but it seems like my food is being serve quickly as if I was eating in a fast chain.
