Love this restaurant. We tried the chef’s choice. They are all excellent except for the starter sashimi scallops, I think there is too much salt on the scallop which makes it taste weird. But the waiters are really nice. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Very nice ambience. Food tasty. Good service.
Excellent evening with friends! Had the Pork Chops and it was cooked to perfection! Very moist, excellent flavors and went well with the Pinot I brought. Friend's wife ordered the homemade Ravioli Special made al dente'...she gave us a taste...perfect! Very attentive staff that didn't rush us, but was ready when we were. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect meal.
Service was excellent as was the food. We will return the next time to Santa Barbara.
Always nice but a little tired
The new chef has brought some fantastic new dishes to this venerable SB restaurant. The Ahi tar tar is the best in Santa Barbara. The whole fish stuffed with crab is absolutely fantastic and the NY steak, was perfect. What ever they do to those potatoes is worth it! It was a night of superb service, perfect wine pairings and knowledge and absolutely fabulous food. Welcome back Wine Cask!
We were served by the sommelier, who recommended the five course chef’s choice with wine pairings. He and another server explained each course well, and the sommeliers pairings were informative and fun! The experience was very enjoyable. He listened and made the whole dining experience great for us! Thank you!
We found the food was very average, good wines, and the indoor experience longing for help.
Great meal, fabulous service. Leslie is the best host!
They did not have our reservation. They are not open for lunch. They said there was a glitch in the system. What a joke!
What a beautiful dining experience at Wine Cask! The venue is stunning and it's a great location in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, but a short distance away from the State Street crowds. Our meal was delicious and unique, and we couldn't have asked for better service. Highly recommend for a special occasion or for a romantic night out.
Really dark and empty...food was not good and menu was seriously lacking anything exciting or interesting
I love the cave-like atmosphere, decor and the romantic table near the fireplace. Great ambience.
My $32 fish was a small portion and not very interesting. One of the sides was volcanic hot pickled veggies. Why would you pair something so strongly flavored with mild fish? My entree was just weird. Not inedible. Just weird.
The Hub liked his ribeye steak. He had truffled polenta that was to die. I was still hungry so I scooped that up.
Too pricey for what you get. I probably wouldn't choose it weren't it for a gift certificate.
The Wine Cask in under new ownership. The service, ambiance is good but we felt the food was mediocre for the price. The salad was good as was the gazpacho. The Scallops $34, were too garlicy, overwhelming so.
Under cooked-(raw) and then served with corn and lima beans and smoked fingerling potatoes. They use liquid smoke, terrible. Plate presentation was vey poor. I remember having this dinner at the Wine Cask last year and it was fantastic, it was garnished with Squid ink. wild rice, vegetables and I believe risotto.
My wife tried the duck and once again poor plate presentation. Duck was just OK.
Corkage is $35, too much.
Opal on State St. does an outstanding job with Duck and Lamb chops. Heading back to Opal. and corkage is $25
We enjoyed our anniversary dinner here last weekend, after not having been to Wine Cask in about 4 years because we moved closer to our work in LA. We loved it and it was so worth the drive. The ambiance is charming and cozy, but also gorgeous. The food is outstanding and the service is perfect. We couldn't believe how reasonable the prices were, too! I think our only wish was that there were a little more menu offerings but what they do offer, they have down to a perfect science. We will be back with friends soon!
Lovely food, great wine pairings, terrific service
Wonderful evening. Wait staff were just excellent.
My husband and I discovered the Wine Cask on our first trip to Santa Barbara six years ago. We enjoyed lunch on the patio and then went back for dinner inside the dining room. Both meals were outstanding. When we were in the area again recently we went back for dinner and everything was just as good as we remembered. The atmosphere is very pleasant both inside and out, the menu offers a nice variety, the quality and preparation of the food is excellent, and the service is attentive without being overbearing. I would highly recommend the Wine Cask if you are in the Santa Barbara.
Just an outstanding restaurant in all respects but especially excellent service.
room was very cold when we arrived at 5:45, were told "it will warm up later when more people arrive."
What happened to the Wine Cask? This has been one of our go-to restaurants in Santa Barbara for fine dining. But something has changed. The food was average at best. The waiter got our order wrong twice. No real apology was forthcoming. The prices are at the upper level of restaurants in Santa Barbara but not commensurate with the quality of the food and service. Strikingly, the restaurant was more than half empty on a beautiful evening with a concert at the Lobero a short walk away—I.e. the restaurant should have been filled with concert goers. I don’t get it—something weird is going on. Don’t let the Wine Cask drift—it’s too important to Santa Barbara.
It was recommended to have the ribeye and that it was really lean and no gristle. Well for all three of us it was full of fat. I only had about 15-20% of meat the rest was fat and everyone else in the party said the same thing. We also ordered the octopus and although it was cooked well it was extremely salty. Overall we were all extremely disappointed with the food. The music started out very loud but was later adjusted to a more normal level but the service was fabulous!
This is our favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara. Exquisitely prepared food, great wine list and informed service.
We had the tasting menu and it was AMAZING!! Very creative dishes with marvelous flavors - a real world class restaurant
This was our favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara, and we can't wait to go back! The food, service and ambiance were truly exceptional!! The knowledge and friendliness of the staff was better than any other restaurant we've been to. Food is amazing!
Make sure you all for the tasting menu with wine pairing. Absolutely fantastic meal. Over the top service. Best restaurant in Santa Barbara by far.
Great for a quiet, romantic dinner for two. The food was delicious and the service was excellent!
This restaurant is an excellent date night option. The decor has dark woods and rich textures to give that old mission style feel with minimal pendant lighting. There is a patio separating two sides of the restaurant where you can dine as well. My fiancé and I ordered the chicken and lamb entrees and could not be happier. The meat was tender and full of flavor. The combination of flavors was outstanding from the chorizo in the brown rice to the subtle curry paste and tender carrots made the chicken outstanding. The lamb dish did not disappoint either with perfectly cooked sweet potato the beautifully cooked lentils just a hint of mint. We were floored by the excellent service and welcoming demeanor of all the staff. We will definitely come back for another decadent dining experience.
WONDERFUL SERVICE AND TERRIFIC FOOD -- PLUS WE COULD ACTUALLY HEAR EACH OTHER TALK!
Wow everything was delish and service excellent. Omg the bread!
Our meal started off well—great bottle of wine, tasty appetizers. Then we were ignored for a long time between courses. When our main dishes came out, one was wrong. When it was finally corrected, there was no apology. The main dishes, duck and scallops, were not as good as the first course and had clearly been sitting. Then we were ignored again for a long time—no checking in, no water refills. By the time they got back to us to offer dessert, we were so annoyed, we just got our check and left. Wound up having dessert and after dinner drinks back at our hotel. Would not recommend.
We had a great dining experience, the food is delicious, portions are just right and the flavor combinations work well.
The service is great , very attentive and accommodating. The ambiance and the venue is so charming & cozy.
I will definitely come back the next time I’m in SB.
Highly recommend the chef’s tasting with wine pairings. Amazing!
Loved our evening at the Wine Cask!
Our food was amazing. The ambience was perfect for an anniversary. We sat outside with our two fur babies and it was very relaxing - they can be high strung when there is too much stimulation. It was perfect. Thank you.
This was an early Mother’s Day celebration and we had always wanted to go to the Wine Cask so we figured it was the perfect occasion. It did not disappoint. So many restaurants in SB are somewhat crowded/stuffy. The Wine Cask was elegant with high ceilings. The noise level was just right, the service was outstanding and the food...wow. I would consider ourselves “foodies” and we all tried something different. All of the entrees were wonderful but my 11 year old son was the winner with the pork shank. The duck breast was also delicious and the scallops per my husband, were great. We are Greek so trust us when we say the octopus appetizer was spot on fantastic. It melted in our mouths. The wine list was wonderful as well. We even saved room for dessert which ended our night there with a bang. We look forward to going back very soon.
Everything was perfect! We will definitely be back.
I do not think there could have been a finer experience in all aspects of the experience....location, atmosphere, drinks, food, service...all was to perfection and all 4 of us felt the same way.

As always, we had a great dinner and the perfect waiter, Nuri
From the moment we walked in, our entire experience was carefully looked after by the maitre'd and our waiter. The ambience was absolutely wonderful and we sat by the wine bottles in the main dining room, which did not entirely insulate noise from the restaurant or club next door, which is the only complaint we had about the entire dinner.
My wife had the asparagus, broccoli, and leek soup and I had the ahi tuna sashimi, which were exquisite. We ordered the porterhouse for two, which was cooked to perfection, and the Nutella cheesecake was delightful. Our cocktails were perfectly balanced and refreshing, and the Wine Cask Red Syrah we had with the main course paired amazingly well with the steak. Our waiter made sure to see our every need was met and we were pleasantly surprised by a sparkling Chardonnay as this dinner marked my wife and my anniversary. That little treat capped off everything and my wife and I both agreed that the dinner was practically perfect. If we have an opportunity to dine here again, we will be back.
