About Winds Café

Winds Café is located in the small, progressive town of Yellow Springs. Visitors enjoy independent and artisan shops, riding along the bike path, hiking in Glen Helen and John Bryan State Park, music or performing arts venues and independent art films at Little Art Theater. The food is European inspired with an American twist and uses as many local ingredients as Chef Kim can find. The menu and wines change monthly to reflect the seasons, and no, you cannot have tomato on your sandwich in February. Winds Café tries to find organic producers whose methods are humane, ethical and environmentally friendly. The restaurant is committed to keeping prices affordable and the quality of the food high; and is also committed to providing excellent, informed service in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. In a sprawling sea of chain restaurants, Winds offers food and wine that is accessible and adventurous providing gastronomic opportunities usually only found in larger cities.

Overall great experience, my only suggestion is to create a warmer ambiance with lighting. Lights were a little bright for a 7pm dinner res - dim those lights and put out some real candles.

Large party and some seafood was lukewarm at delivery. Kitchen seemed a bit confused as to how to have plates ready in any order. Nothing special ordered straight dish as on menu yet plates dribbled out

We were celebrating my mother's birthday, and she remembered eating at the Wind's Cafe several years ago with me. It was as enjoyable as she remembered, and we both had the Tuscan Bread Salad, a favorite from our previous visits. We also enjoyed a glass of wine. The atmosphere is wonderful, as this is a converted older home or building that is cozy and eclectic in decor. We will definitely continue to frequent this restaurant when looking for an experience that is different from the choices that are available in franchise or chain establishments.

The waitress took 20 minutes to help us after we sat down. I ordered the snapper; the whole 26 dollar dinner would've fit into the palm of my hand. My girlfriend ordered the steak medium rare and it came out basically raw; then when she asked the waitress to have it cooked to medium rare, it came back well done. Overall disappointing experience.

I have been going to The Winds for over 20 years and this is the first time I’ve been disappointed with the food. In my party of four everyone was disappointed. The service was excellent.

I’ve been going to the Winds for more than 30 years and have always been satisfied with the food. Fit for foodies is the best description. The menu describes how important the ingredients, preparation, and dining experience are to the staff.

We typically love the Winds, however the service was painfully slow and fraught with mistakes. It seemed like they overbooked walk-ins or underestimated time of dinner service. At any rate, we were seconds from leaving, however it was our anniversary and we wanted an amazing meal— which we did have.

I have always loved The Winds, but the menu selection for lunch was quite limited. I had a great salad but there were not any options for protein to add (chicken, salmon, etc.). I still highly recommend this restaurant, however, as I have had good experiences in the past.

After this trip I would hesitate to recommend Winds. We sat there for 20 minutes before we had to ask the hostess (who looked at us a dozen times with zero awareness) for a server. The server was nice but slow to get water and our coffee/tea. The food was ridiculously slow and came out cold. I'm not sure what happened but really disappointing.

Server was attentive and helpful. Of course, the food is always great. I had the Squash and Pumpkin Lasagne. It was a generous portion and quite delicious. I had a Tart for dessert, very good but if you like chocolate, get the Black Forest Cake. The cake was easily big enough for two. I tasted it because my friend ordered it and it was yummy. I'll order it next time. The Winds also supplies a basket of bread to enjoy. They make the bread and have a bakery/wine shop next door where they sell the bread. There were pieces of focaccia covered with cheese and served warm included in the bread basket, incredibly good. When finished eating, both my friend and myself went next door to their bakery and bought some of their bread. I bought two loaves of the focaccia since it was being sold in two flavors. I bought one of each. My friend also bought both flavors as well as the whole wheat. I only get to The Winds Cafe a few times a year because Yellow Springs is over an hour away from where I live. It is worth the drive. I highly recommend it.

The Winds continues to be the brightest star in the Miami Valley when it comes to dining. We've been going for twenty years. Here's what I experienced on our most recent visit. My spouse and I were greeted by name; the host led us to an excellent outdoor location with a smile and "Glad you are with us this evening." Water arrived within a minute of being seated. Our waitress was friendly. She made sure we had what we wanted. She was working several tables, yet was prompt, on top of everything. My bean soup came out hot. The squash lasagna was a robust serving, moist, flavorful and also served as if it had just been readied for the table. My pork chop was cooked perfectly, I'd call it medium enough to maintain tenderness and full flavor yet never a thought it was undercooked. We ate outside on a night when rain threatened. Yet, it was wonderfully comfortable The porch was full but never too noisy. When we turned to leave, I could see the lights above, strung about eight feet beyond our heads. Yes, the Winds Cafe, still shining after all these years.

Really interesting, delicious food. We were a table of 2 and got lost by the wait staff serving several large groups. All were friendly, but we had to flag people down for the check. Probably would have liked dessert, too, but ran out of time due to lack of attention by the wait staff:(

I used to go to the Winds Cafe all the time when I was a young adult but I left the area 30 years ago. This was my first time back in 3 decades. They moved locations since then, but I still had my feeling of nostalgia and a similar ambiance to the previous location. The food was as great as ever. The people who worked there were just as nice, down-to-earth, and casual but professional at the same time, as they were back then. No wonder they've been a Yellow Springs mainstay for 40 years. I've changed a lot in the past 30 years, but there was something very comforting that the Winds didn't change all the things that worked well in the first place.

The food was great (somewhat expensive) and Susan, our server, did a nice job once she was able to get to us. My wife and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary on a Tuesday night. But I was very disappointed that we could not have a nice quiet conversation due to two very loud parties in the restaurant. I think it might have been helped if the sound didn't carry so much, but there is essentially no ceiling to absorb the sound. So this almost (but not quite) ruined my evening. We will probably try the restaurant again at some point, but I can't make a recommendation to others who want to come for a special occasion.

Five of us were in Yellow Springs for the weekend. Eating st The Winds is always a treat and we are never disappointed! We are on the patio and it was lovely. Great friendly service and wonderfully original unique dishes to choose from. From the lavender dacquari to the chocolate mousse and all the dishes in between, each one of us enjoyed our food. Highly recommend eating at The Winds.

Winds has long been one of our favorite destination restaurants. However, on our second to last visit a couple of months ago the service was very poor -- we waited nearly an hour for our food. More recently, on our latest visit, the service was fine, and the food interesting and tasty, as before, but the portions were quite skimpy. One of our party had the fish and chips dish, which had a moderate amount of chips covering only five one-inch or so long bits of fish - altogether, an ounce or maybe two of fish at the most. Another had the lamb pita sandwich which was made up of substantially more pita than filling. Disappointing. We'll probably try again, but with rather less confidence next time.

Experience at the Winds was exceptional, as usual. We were there for our anniversary. Service was outstanding and the food was delicious. We had the roasted garlic appetizer, a ceasar salad and the beet salad for a first course, the hangar steak (cooked to perfection) for entrée and key lime cheesecake and an apple-rosemary tartlet for dessert.

Our first visit to Winds, which is the favorite restaurant of my nephew. My wife and I hearily concur. It was more than worth the hour's drive and we look forward to returning. The Winds is an unpretentious place with novel, healthful menu items at a good price point. Yellow Springs is a beautiful village to visit with a myriad of cute shops and an outstanding dairy store and petting zoo experience for children. Highly recommended.

The Winds was fantastic. We had craft cocktails at the bar prior to dinner, and they were great. Dinner was fresh and fantastic. I recommend the Acqua Pazza. We also had a good bottle of wine at a fair price, and the service was great! We love Yellow Springs and now have another favorite spot to return for. Well done!
