Winberie's Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Winberies is a bit pricey for us so we confine our visits there to special occasions. It combines some measure of Oak Park ambience with informal fun.
It is my girlfriend's favorite place so we go there with a group for her birthday treat. My one disappointment was that like other restaurants,Winberies would not provide a little pastry with a candle on it for her because none of our party ordered dessert.
We paid quite a lot for our dinners and I had hoped we could at least get a complimentary birthday treat for her.
My family and I have been frequenting this establishment for many years. It hasn't changed a ton. When I made the reservation, I did indicate that it was a special occasion. There was no reference made to that during our visit and we had to argue for a decent table. It was strange, the restaurant was not even close to full. Our server was pretty awful. I was a server for many years, so I get how it is. Our server told us she was tired and that was obvious. I don't think she smiled once. I felt like we were bothering her. She would disappear for long periods of time. I was looking for her and didn't see her anywhere. Maybe her shift was almost over so she was doing side work? I don't know. It was supposed to be a special dinner and it just wasn't. Really disappointing. Food was pretty good. I love that they have vegetarian AND vegan options. You have to ask to see those menus and they are online. A variety of choices. I ordered the black cherry lemonade. An adult cocktail that was quite tasty. Don't think they could have put it in a smaller glass and it was $10. Lame. My Mom likes to eat there, so we'll probably go back, but I wouldn't choose to eat at Winberies on my own. Bummer.
Nice lunch selection. We consisted of both a meat-eater and a vegetarian, and we were both very happy with our meals. The mini “little something” dessert was great, for when you just want a little bit extra. Nick gave us great service from beginning to end.
The appetizers were great! My entree was subpar. My green beans were cold, the mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes (they were lumpy and flavorless). The salmon was decent. The desserts we took to go and my creme brulee was just dumped in a big container. My associate had spice cake and ice cream. They put the ice cream in a tiny salad dressing container. It was like a tablespoon of ice cream. I was disappointed by the entree and lack of togetherness of the desserts. We could have gone to TGI Fridays to have better. I would not go again unless just for desserts.
The choice was brunch only and I thought it was a bit on the pricey side, I was seated around 12:45 pm and most of the food items looked like they where picked over, the beef carver gave me several skices of beef that was laughable plus she looked like she wasn’t very people friendly, the table set up looked messy foid not picked up around the buffet.
I would not recommend this place for buffet but perhaps just breakfast or diner.
This is one of our favorite Oak Park restaurants. ALWAYS a good meal, and always great service.
Back when they offered delivery through GrubHub, my wife and I ordered 5 or 6 times from Winberies every month. Since that stopped, we only drive the couple miles down there maybe once a month...and Winberries never fails to deliver an excellent meal and wonderful experience.
We always get consistently good food and service here. It’s comfortable seating, quiet, and food and drinks are a good value. The only advice I share is to keep the sitting area updated and clean. Our table rocked back and forth and the ambiance is starting to look a little tired.
Have never been disappointed with Winberie's so consequently it has become a "go to" in the Oak Park area. The service on our last visit was excellent; the server very attentive and pleasant. The food, as always, was tasty, served promptly so still hot, and cost very reasonable.
The menu is varied, mostly American. Go for the classic meatloaf. This is not your mother’s loaf. Ground Angus beef and pork cooked in red wine with sautéed mushrooms and onions, served with whipped potato’s and sautéed vegetables. The wait staff was very attentive. We were there with a friend and wanted to talk. The noise level made that possible and we were not rushed when we finished.
Everything was great except the new chicken pot pie. It was served luke warm and had way too many potatoes in it. Our drinks were exceptionally tasty. The spicy mac 'n cheese hit the spot as did the fried shrimp and chicken sandwich. After ordering pie, our waitress returned to tell us there was no pie left. Our creme broulee alternative was tasty.
Went to Winberies for a nice dinner with family and was not disappointed. The service started a bit slow, but picked up nicely once things got going. The food was delicious according to every one in the group, (there were 6 of us). Would recommend for a nice meal with friends or family or a date.
We arrived a few minutes before our reserved time, and were seated promptly at a table with a street view. The server was attentive, and the food was excellent, with a very attractive presentation. We had dined there once before while visiting Oak Park, and would definitely do so again.
The only negative (and a minor one)...the restaurant mistakenly notified Open Table that we had not shown up for the reservation. The situation was quickly rectified with an email.
i had been here many times before but this evening was just.ok... the service was off as the staff seemed to be quite busy with the many empty tables.. there was lag time between ordering and receiving bread , but then eveything arrived with little time between salad and main entree... the food runners did not know what rhey were serving or who received rhe dish... and the waitress was not there ... she did not offer us coffee or desert, as we asked to see menu... the whole sunner seemed as if we were an after thought. perhaps because we were not ordering alcohol and our bill would be less than... while I will try afain as it is a neighbourhood place , i will try others first....
I have been dinning here for years, and this time it was friend from Indianapolis visiting who ate here with me 3 years ago and wanted to eat here again for his birthday. First question he asked our server about the food, she hadn't tried the park chop. I finally ordered the grapefruit cocktail, only to have her come back & say they were out. My friend then asked for a cosmo, she forgot to order it, took about 15 mins to get it. One friend wanted beer, asked if you had served any type of stout /dark beer, she said, Heineken &blue moon. She didn't mention the chimay beer. We finally ordered, birthday boy ordered the pork chop, after the order was turned in she came back to say you didn't have it. We got finished eating, she asked if separate or one check. Never asked about desert, but we wanted it, finally we asked if we can order dessert. She was a very nice girl, she admitted she'd only been working a week, but still she should know the menu better, as we asked her what the meals came with, "hmm, a veggie I think, as she grabbed the menu to check. Of all the times I've eaten here, this was the first time to get such poor service:(
Winberie's is a solid 'go to' place for us. It's close and the service is good. The food is usually very good but this time, almost everything was overly salty. The tomato basil soup was delicious but nearly inedible due to it's saltiness. They have great super thin crispy fries. But, I had to shake the excess salt off of them as I ate them. We mentioned it to our waitress who said she would tell the chef. Their mine has something for everyone and our vegetarian loves their veggie burger.
Dorthy the hostess helped me with a big birthday surprise for my brother, a Cherry Dr. Pepper cake. She helped me get our table all set up, then lead him to the table next to it with a plant hiding the cake. My brother was so surprised! Marisa our server was great and suggested the cold seasonal cucumber soup which was outstanding! Everything was perfect!
