Willy’s Steakhouse Grill & Sushi Bar Ratings and Reviews
We had a wonderful time! The food was great, the server, Sharon, was magnificent, and the ambiance was awesome. I was celebrating my 48th birthday with family and friend, 8 of us, and we had a blast. The only thing I saw as a negative was that it got very warm and stayed warm throughout the evening. Other than that, THANK YOU for providing my family and friends with a great restaurant to eat and drink.
Although a little pricey, Willy's SteakHouse, a gem in the center of Shrewsbury, serves just about the best melt-in-your-mouth beef anywhere. Especially awesome is the NY Strip with truffle butter, although the 24 ounce porterhouse will not disappoint. On a recent visit, we started our meal with tuna tartar and fried calamari; the tuna had exceptional flavor and the calamari was tender, light, and crispy. One member of our party opted not for the beef, but rather the duck breast, and he pretty much licked the plate clean. The server was pleasant and prompt. Worth every penny.
It's a shame we don't come here more often, the food is consistently wonderful. Lively crowd (it was packed on a Monday night!) and boy, do they know how to do steak.
We both ordered a filet and when they arrived, there was nary a steak knife to be found. I thought, "Now here's a place that has confidence in their tenderness of their beef!"
And sure enough, the filet was literally fork-tender. Also kudos for livening up their vegetable offerings: Spinach in cheese sauce and potatoes au gratin. Hmm, a theme?
We did not indulge, but based on the activity at their sushi bar, again it's a rare place (pun intended!) that can do both steak and sushi and do both successfully
Even though we had a reservation our table was placed very close to the bathrooms and the kitchen. The food was mediocre. Only the Sushi were good. Overpriced. Not worth it. Very disappointed. We had been waiting a ling time to eat there
I was looking forward to a nice birthday dinner, unfortunately it did not turn out that way. The service was very good, the food was another story. We ordered au gratin potato, they were cold. My filet mignon, which I ordered as medium plus close to medium well. I explained I liked a tiny bit of pink, well it was still mooing when I received it. I sent it back to cook more when it came back to me I cut into it and it was still raw. The server was very apologetic and willing to cook it again. You can't cook a piece of filet three times and expect it to be good. So I went without dinner for my birthday. The manager did offer us dessert but I was not interested
The place was lovely! The best food- everything from appetizer to dessert was amazing I really love this place and have told everyone how delicious it was. Great place - Great food and amazing service in a place that it seems everyone knows your name! Cheers!
The food was excellent but what made the overall all experience exceptional was the service. We had the shrimp cocktail and crab cake appetizers, salads and steak for our entrees. I never felt rushed. The service through the meal was timed perfectly and was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly the filet mignon au poivre and the lemon cake.
As a vegetarian wife of a meat eater, I would have liked to have had a vegetarian option that wasn't pasta. The gnocchi was very good but nothing spectacular. I'd like to see a vegetarian meal that would allow someone to share the delicious side dishes with their table mates. That just is not possible when you're only option is gnocchi swimming in tomato sauce. My husband raved about his dry aged steak.
Let me start this off by saying Willy's is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The food is always amazing. Great ambiance and just a cool, local spot. I've been there a lot and it's usually 5 stars across the board. However, this last visit we had some pretty underwhelming service. I'll give the server the benefit of the doubt and just hope she was having a bad day or was really tired, but to say she payed little to no attention to our table would be an understatement. We constantly had to flag her down for drinks or any other standard service, such as removing a used appetizer plate. Anyway, I still love Willy's and will be back. Hopefully next time the service will be back to the 5 stars we're used to.
I really like Willy's. I go for the sushi. My wife says the steaks are good. It's a small place, I like the atmosphere, and convenient for me since it's only 10 minutes away. Food comes to you quickly. I like to take my time when I go out to eat, so sometimes I feel a little rushed when they are real busy. But, I recommend it and will keep going back for more.
We Love Willy's. Food is great. Wait staff is great.
What we didn't love was our table. It had a bench on one end and people could not move over. If we used the bench we would be in the middle of the aisle. They didn't seem to want to move us. It was tight and put a damper on the evening at the beginning, which we were looking forward to.
Yet, when we looked around there were lots of parties of two in other booths. Just think it would have made more sense to put our party of 4 in one of those and a party of 2 in one of ours.
Food was fantastic, my girlfriend had the Filet Au Poivre, I had the Swordfish Nantucket and both were cooked to perfection and had wonderful flavor. Server was very nice and attentive, and everyone else was very pleasant. Willy's has always been one of my favorite restaurants, as my grandfather used to take us here all the time, and they did not disappoint once again! Would recommend highly to anyone who enjoys great food and a classy atmosphere
Willy's is always a great place to eat! We've been going for many years.
The food is excellent, the wine list extensive, and the staff is attentive. Service was a bit slower than usual - but not bad. It was unusually busy, especially the Sushi Bar, so things took a bit longer to come out to the table. They've hired a new Head Chef, and while the food was still very good- some of the items were clearly different (the wedge salad was smaller than it used to be, and the dressing seemed different, for example). Overall, another excellent dinner, great ambiance and fabulous cocktails.
