Willows at Chumash Casino Ratings and Reviews
Great place to go to celebrate something. Excellent service and food. One drawback is having the long walk through the casino to get to the restaurant. Not being interested in the casino, this is a drawback for me. I'd go more often if there was a separate direct entrance.
We have enjoyed a visit to the Willows whenever we are staying at Chumash Casino Resort and have never been disappointed. They have helped us celebrate two anniversaries with a special homemade ice cream and berries dessert. The entrees are so special with fresh vegetables, delicious sauces and creative presentations. The bread basket comes with four choices of spreads, and the salad selection changes seasonally...we saw strawberries being harvested on the drive down, and enjoyed a fresh strawberry salad as a starter. A restaurant that we always look forward to!
Willows has improved quite a bit from years past. The service is wonderful. Our waitress was helpful with suggestions and she was lovely to us. My crab legs were some of the best I have ever eaten. Definitely, they were a five star meal but the price tag was $78.00 and anyone would expect that they should be that good. The Caesar salad was a disappointment, however. It is hard to explain how a chef could ruin a Caesar salad but, unfortunately, he did. My husband's dinner was fine, he said, but nothing to rave about. He had the French onion soup first and then the pork chop as an entree. All in all, it was a mixed package of great, average and disappointing. I gave Willows a 4 star rating because of great service and the improvements that they made with some of the foods on the menu.
We've dined several times at the Willows, have been very impressed, and would have rated the experience 'outstanding' ... until this visit. Our dinner on Mother's Day, at 8pm, found the restaurant crowded and the staff under pressure. Once seated, we waited 15 minutes before a server stopped by to take an order for cocktails, and didn't get our dinners served until 45 minutes later. My steak, ordered 'very rare', was delivered 'medium', and had to be sent back.
Overall, the waiter was pleasant, the food was good, but there was no 'gratis' offer of coffee or dessert over the inconvenience of long waits and returned food.
We will return to the Willows - it's a fine restaurant - but we will pick a non-holiday date in the future when the atmosphere is less pressured.
I ordered Lobster well done (have had it for years like this at the Hitching Post with no issues) this was tasteless and was not delivered to the table the way I ordered it (I specifically stated I like it crispy) therefore while my husband's filet and our mushrooms were very good my lobster which mind you I got to eat my dinner after my husband completed his was tasteless. This is not an inexpensive restaurant while I don't mind paying for a good meal I will not return as this was very disappointing a romantic dinner it should of been!! Back to the Hitching Post! Always consistent!! I did tip the waiter the usual 20% as I didn't feel it was his fault and the 2 star on the service had no reflection on the waiter this was directed at the chef.
Service was excellent! We were asked if we were there for a special occasion and we said we were, for our anniversary. When we ordered desert they were sure to write Happy Anniversary in chocolate on the plate. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and very tasty with the perfect amount of seasoning. My husband had the ribeye and I had the New York, mushroom risotto was very good, lobster bisque was just so so.
We live 5 hours away, and made this restaurant a destination because of the food quality. This was our 5th time there, and we will be back. The French onion soup is awesome, and we have not been disappointed yet. Outstanding customer service and it is a real treat to dine there, and we hope to be back in a few months.
Food was of poor quality, 3 out of 4 meals were not eaten. when commenting to waiter he responded "everyone is entitled to their own opinion" and walked away! spoke to the manager who basically swept it under the rug. not as good as it was before they did their remodel. I will never return to this restaurant.
Steaks were great as were potatoes au gratin but baked potatoes were awful...cold and not baked i.e. They were microwaved service spotty BUT because too few staff AND they'd been forced to work 20 hours straight. We really liked our waiter but he was tired.
We the day before, so it was a last minute reservation. Our reservation time was little later than what we wanted. But we arrived early and there was a cancellation, so our dinner was just as we wanted it. The food was EXCELLENT, the service was EXCELLENT and we were seated in a private room. So everything was PERFECT.
The restaurant was open, and the only one open on Christmas. The food ànd service was excellent. One aspect of our experience was puzzling in that we arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation time, expecting a huge crowd. However, we were seated promptly, but not in the main dining room which had tables available, in the overflow room. Guess we were not good enough to be seated in the main dining room.
