Willow Ratings and Reviews
Party of 4 -- All very much enjoyed the food and atmosphere at our table.
After dinner drinks at bar were minorly marred by a bartender who was noticeably unpleasant and little chilliness (sitting by the door). The chilliness was rectified by a small space heater.
No big worries... We will be back!
First time visit - for business dinner left us very pleased. I had high expectations ( since the place is run by the same group who owns "Spoon" in East End), and Willow totally met them. We arrived earlier and were able to take advantage of the Happy Hour menu. Everything was very reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. For dinner - we opted for variety of small plates instead of entrees: flat bread, mussels, mac and cheese, and crabcakes were outstanding.
If you have not yet tried this place, plan your visit soon!
The Willow is a very nice restaurant that excelled in customer service. We went on Valentine's Day which they had a special limited menu that we were unaware of and was not given the opportunity to order from the regular menu. So, my fiance and I are dieting and did not eat the dessert that was included in the $65 price of the meal. The food was really tasty and the presentation was appealing.
My fiance and I went on Valentine's Day. The food was excellent, however, I wasn't please with Willow jacking up their prices in excess of $15 per person because it's Valentine's Day, all with a limited menu. I was never told there was a limited menu, nor was I told that limited menu was $65/person. If I'd have known that, I'd have stayed home and made my fiance dinner instead. A crab cake, a pork chop and a panna cotta dessert should NEVER cost anyone $65. $50, sure. They did have the nerve to tell me that they were offering free Valet Parking, though. It'd have rather parked myself and ordered off of the dinner menu. Just insane.
I will say, the food was excellent, but I would never go back here for any special occasion.
We typically go to Willow about once a year. Since the last time we were there, the menu has been quite restricted. I felt like I didn’t have as many options. It could just be my perception but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I have in the past. It was not bad; in fact it was quite good. But it wasn’t exceptional as I previously thought it to be.
Had not been for brunch before and it turned out to be just as good as dinner. Toward the end of the meal, it got louder as it became more crowded but that is to be expected. Food was amazing, especially as a southern transplant always looking for good grits around here—awesome. Definitely will return!
Our server Fred was great. Knowledgeable and friendly. Potato soup was more of a puree, and somewhat tasteless. The beet salad was very good tasting, but small portioned for the price. I had the small plate Mac and cheese with chicken as my meal, it was perfect. My husband had the ravioli, which he said was good, but after tasting my meal he said mine was better. Overall the food was average.
They got off to a bad start; I arrived early, checked in and said I'd be at the bar. Did not see my guest come in, he checked in and was seated but not told that I was there. We both sat in different spots thinking the other was late for 15 minutes - finally called his cell to find him -- staff never figured it out, despite the fact that I had a reservation for two. Sloppy.
For the meal each of us had two of the small plates -- excellent. Service was good, although not outstanding. Price was very fair for the quality.
Would go again, but wouldn't try to meet someone there.
My wife and I went out for New Year’s Eve. This was our first time trying Willow. My wife ordered a filet mignon and I had a pork chop. The pork chop was enormous. It had to be a 4” thick chop. Anyway, the “filet” was not a filet. It looked like a cheap piece of meat. My wife said it tasted alright, but she wasn’t impressed. My pork chop was ridiculously dry. Also, it was bland. I couldn’t eat too much more than 1/4 of it.
The crab cake and lobster bisque that we had for an appetizer were very good, as was the chocolate cake we had for dessert.
Overall, we’re glad we tried it since we’ve driven by so many times and vowed we would. However, I don’t think we’ll be back.
We went to willow for NYE and had a reservation. We have been there many times but this time was not the best experience. We sat upstairs in a banquet room and it was not at all like sitting downstairs. It was cold and not nearly as nice as the rest of the restaurant. The food was pretty good but for the prefixed menu price of $170 for 2 people it wasn’t that good. The service was very disappointing. It’s normally great but our waitress was not friendly and you could tell she was super overwhelmed. It took forever to just get a water refill. Never again do I want to sit upstairs, seems like a totally different restaurant. Just overall not happy with our experience for the price.
Willow was either over scheduled or understaffed for NYE dinner. Our reservation was for 7:30pm and we weren’t finished until 10pm, and that was because we asked for our dessert and checks at the same time. The food quality and service was tremendously better last NYE (2016). We were very disappointed in the quality of the food, the value (I get it NYE is an expensive meal) they definitely didn’t match. And to top it off our meal took almost 3 hours. Willow has traditionally been great and we have been there numerous times and enjoyed it, but they struck out this time and I will be rethinking going back for any special occasion. :(
The food and service were excellent as always. The prix-fixe menu selection had enough choices but small enough to not be overwhelming. All of the selections that we had in our party were very good and our waitress was very attentive and friendly.
The only detractor was the layout of the tables. They had one or two too many tables where we were sitting so we were often bumping into other people while we were seated and people had to squeeze past to get to their tables, bumping into ours. We eventually moved to another table that was properly spaced from others and had an excellent time for the remainder of our visit.
My boyfriend and I went to Willow because we had a gift card but would definitely not be returning again (especially with our own money involved!). With the high prices and luxurious vibe, we expected a delicious and quality meal. However, we were severed disappointed and underwhelmed. To start we ordered the chicken and brie flatbread as an appetizer and within minutes it was delivered to our table. The flatbread was cold and lacked flavor. I ordered the pork chop for dinner, which was extremely overcooked and very very tough. Downtown Pittsburgh is close in proximity and offers dining experiences at comparable prices but significantly higher quality. Don't waste your money or time at Willow!
Our service was incredibly slow. It was a Saturday night, but NOT crowded. The four of us sat down at 7 pm, we ordered, we got our first course (salads and soup) at 7:40, we got our main course (two of the four orders were only pierogies!) at about 8:10. Very disappointed. (And our waitress NEVER acknowledged that our orders were slow in coming....is this normal??)
I spent the afternoon there for a long leisurely lunch with family and friends. We ordered a lot of different things from the menu and there was not one bad dish served. It was all delicious. The decor is beautiful, service excellent, ambiance abounds. A gem in Harrisburg.
I made the reservation for a very special occasion, my mom’s 60th birthday. I made sure I wrote it on our reservation. We were sat on the bottom floor, which was okay, we love the upstairs but understood there were lots of groups that night.
My husband and I have both been in the restaurant business a while, and we were both very disappointed in our evening, along with most of the other members of our group. Our server Chris was one of the most miserable unattentive servers we have ever had. We had a child at the table and he never once asked if she needed a drink or a kids menu at that- so we assumed you did not have one, until the table behind walked in with multiple children and saw they received kids menus. Just asking if she would have liked something to drink would have been great.
I am also 9 months pregnant and obviously can not drink alcohol so I ordered a decafe coffee, could have been an ice coffee.
We were there to have a good time for my mothers birthday and were laughing and enjoying ourselves, and while we were ordering dinner my uncle asked a question about one of the menu items also including a joke like he often does, and Chris was extremely rude in his response, our whole table was very taken aback.
Food came, everything was fine- but after that we did not see much of Chris other then to throw dessert menus on our table.
No one even made mention of my moms birthday. I was sad that I made the reservation there because I feel like she was disappointed on her special night.
We took my stepmother for her 70th birthday. We have had the same waiter, Fred, the last few times we have visited the restaurant. Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, he’s impeccably professional. Even the young man who cleared our plates was friendly and humorous. The food is always outstanding! Looking forward to my next visit
