About William Tell Restaurant - Countryside
Established in 1952, the William Tell Restaurant quickly became a landmark place to dine in the Western Suburbs. We were renown for our elegant dining room, old world charm and European style menu. In 2005, the restaurant was completely remodeled and the menus totally redone. Now the new William Tell still maintains the flavor of its old world charm, but offers a slightly more casual elegance. With the new menu, our customers will find a mixture of old masterpieces and some new classic and modern offerings. As always, great hospitality, superb cuisine and wonderful ambience will insure that you have a fantastic dining experience here at the William Tell.

We were celebrating my parents 60th wedding anniversary. We arrived and there was no wait, our table was ready. It was NYE, so complimentary champagne. The waitress was AMAZING. We had my two great nephews - ages 2 and 4 and she bent over backwards to keep them happy as well as the rest of us. The food was wonderful, the ambiance beautiful - especially the pianist playing requests.
We were a party of 8 on Saturday December 23. We were seated, I believe, in the
lounge where the bar is. The meal was by far the worst I have had in years in any place in any location. My expensive Delmonico steak was old and badly cooked. The others at the table universally reported terrible food. I have, in the past, had buffets there that have been very good. BUT, this was a meal unworthy of any reputable restaurant.
We had an early afternoon reservation for my wife's birthday before attending a concert show. Maureen was an attentive server, and a friendly staff assisted her as a team. The Hostess made a conscious effort to acknowledge the occasion! The food was well-prepared with the price commensurate to the idea of a special occasion splurge. A prearranged partner florist delivery awaited us at our table and created the desired mood. Perfect evening dinner offering!
We chose William Tell Restaurant for an early Monther's Day celebration. Sunday brunch, unlimited champagne, seafood filled buffet style meal was more than we expected. If you don't mind the old-style interior - the food, service and overall experience was great!
This is a wonderful place for brunch...food is excellent, service superb, and the hostess and wait staff are friendly and attentive. We have new, coming here for years and as of the past few years have had 2 baby shower/brunches and have had such wonderful experiences.
Kinda a bridge from the past of supper club/restaurants of yesteryear. Some things they continue to do well and some need improvement. Vegetables were a tad overcooked. Wonderful warm bread with hard ice cold butter. I was not impressed with my martini. My steak was very good. Great cut and well prepared. I think they need to step up their game in certain areas to be more congruent with their pricing. Not a bad meal, but neither was it great...other than the steak
Between the grilled Salmon and the Prime Rib special, there was more than enough food. The food was prepared very well and came out in good time. It helped that our 6pm Saturday reservation was at a slow time. It was great to see that when you order a meal, you get soup/salad, main course, side(s), and a desert (at least with the special). Our server, Stefani, was fantastic. She was more than accommodating. If she even thought there was something we were not happy with, she offered to make the exchange. Overall, great experience.
The waitstaff although pleasant and kind were overbearing and because there's very little business in there they are constantly at your table standing there staring and asking if you need anything. It was definitely overkill. The salad was mediocre for the price and the waitress brought us tiny little onions soups and never asked us what size we really wanted. The onion soup was fine although nothing to write home about. The roles were warmed but the butter was frozen. I was there once before and had the same experience and forgot. Now I know I will not be back. The restaurant needs to up the ante big time if they want to attract customers. You need to change the menu, change the cook, update the decor and retrain the staff. William Tell has been in this location forever. I believe they get a bad rap because earlier their food wasn't great and the service was marginal. We have now been to the restaurant 3 times in the last 7 or 8 months. The food each time was excellent. The servers are very attentive. Since there are not a lot of patrons in the restaurant, if you don't want the servers hovering, you just need to gently let them know. They are doing their best to provide you with an excellent experience. The last time we went, three of us had the filet mignon. It was cooked completely to each of our specifications, each of us wanting a little different. I wanted the blue cheese topping and it came with just the right amount, which other restaurants I find totally overwhelm the filet with the blue cheese. I believe it is worth trying William Tell again if you haven't for a long time. It's a tad on the pricey side but if you are going for a Friday or Saturday dinner or special occasion...certainly not out of line.
New Years Eve dinner could've been better. Ordered Prime Rid medium. First time it came to table well done. Sent it back. Second time came back medium well and had to send it back. Finally on the third time around it was medium but by then lost my appetite to eat it. Sure glad I didn't take them up on their unlimited Prime Rib special!
My family went there for Christmas Day buffet and were very disappointed. We were seated in the bar area next to the piano player and doors leading to the outside. My 91 year old mother could not make the trips into another room were the buffet was located so we all took turns bringing her her food. It was so loud when the piano player performed we could not have a conversation and the outside door with people coming and going kept it very cold. The crab legs were huge but they were ice cold so there was very little flavor.
Not a good experience on Christmas Day
This place was an extreme disappointment. The food was very bland and not good at all. And holy cow over priced for what you get. Worst valued meal I maybe have ever had. The mac and cheese looked liked Kraft out of the box. The fish was very fishy and just terrible. It was under chef's recommendations but there is no way they had a chef there. If so, they are in the wrong line of work. Chicken and pastas were bland and not very good. $22 for not good fettuccine alfredo. There was nobody in the place which was very surprising for a Saturday night. Maybe now I see why. We wanted to try it because one of the members of our party had been there a while back and said it was very good. She also thought it was horrible this time. Will never go back. It wasn't just not good for a $110 meal for a party of 5. it was bad!!
This was our first experience at William Tell-Countryside. I remember them being a special place some 40 years ago when they were in Cicero. For a Saturday night the restaurant seemed rather empty for dinner. This restaurant is attached to the Holiday Inn. We were seated at the table closest to the hotel entrance. We soon realized a frequent parade of people streaming through the full length of the restaurant, past our table, from the parking lot door to the hotel for their respective events. We noticed the two banquet halls next to the restaurant entrance were having a High School Runion and an 18th birthday party. We had an overly attentive waitress. She meant well, but she was more of an interrupting distraction. Aside from the amazing hot pretzel buns and the excellent carrot cake dessert, we felt the main courses were okay, but certainly not worth the prices compared to other more popular fine dining venues. Shame on us for not securing a reservation at a more preferred establishment for our special occasion.
We met there to eat with a friend in from California. The manager was very helpful when we decided to eat in the bar rather than the dining room. The service and server was just fine and happily gave the 6 of us separate checks. We got there at 7 and it was noisy but by 8:30 it was almost empty and we could visit easily. The only down side was the unpadded wood chairs .
It had been a while since we last were at William Tell. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. We had the filet Mignon, salmon, spaghetti and also the grouper fish special. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. The service was great....very attentive. We would definitely go back again!
The good was very good for a brunch, amazing king crab legs....I mean HUGE and delicious! Prime rib was excellent once they brought out a fresh one after waiting 20 minutes. They kept trying to give us the last cut that was dried out. The only down side I can really complain about was the service. It was awful! They never came to clear our plates, its a buffet! We had to pile them up on the table next to us that they didn't clear the entire time we were there, over an hour. They would ask if we needed something but took two times of telling them before they actually brought it including the check.
Went, had prime rib, only medium,we were the only people in a restaurant in a hotel, no basket of bread, they come and offer you one pretzel roll. Drink 10.50 . Salad not the same food cold and waitress annoying when only one wanted soup and salad. Too expensive for begging for a roll.
