Will BYOB Ratings and Reviews
I was disappointed this time at Will. I’ve had excellent meals at Will so my expectations were high. Our friend from Milan joined us at Will a year ago and said it was the best restaurant he’d ever been to; on this return visit it was... My ravioli with fois gras ragu did not have a hint of foie gras and the mushrooms tasted rank and were chewy. The scallop main course was also unappealing; scallops should be slightly sweet and airy not hard and fishy. My friend from Milan sat silently about his courses. I’m inclined to book a table at Pumpkin or Wister, and I long for Bistro 7 and Matyson. I hope this was an anomaly.
Great atmosphere. Small and romantic - 10 tables. Reserve ahead. Superb seafood - very little else on the menu, but what would you want if you are a seafood fan. Creative preparations. BYOB (one of the things we love about Will and Philly in general - lots of BYOBs. Hard to find anything wrong with Will. Some people complained about the level of noise but we must have had a quiet group the night we were there
Had heard so much about this popular place that we were excited to try it and it hit the marks on all levels. From the cozy space, the friendly/helpful service to the delectable food, Will BYOB delivers. Had melt-in-your-mouth, perfectly-cooked duck and wagyu tartare...excellent.
We were pleasantly surprised by the coziness and smaller dining room when we arrived. We also were excited to try the tasting menu. Unfortunately half way through our meal half the restaurant was taken over by a bachelorette party. The noise level went from ideal for dinner conversation to being quite disruptive. The restaurant should’ve required a buy out for such a large group. The food was good, but nothing mind blowing.
This is our second visit to Will. The food is truly creative and beautifully presented. Seasonal and local products are featured on the menu. It is a fairly limited menu, so look on line before you commit. That being said, go for the food, but not on a Saturday night. The tables are simply too close together for comfort and the sound level makes normal conversation almost impossible. Service is great - our waitress could explain all of the entrees and was fun to interact with.
What’s the fuss about Will? Certainly doesn’t live up to hype and other reviews. We went for a birthday celebration, having saved this for a speacial occasion. We were immediately seated and our wine opened, and then we were ignored by the waitstaff for almost 30 min with our (small) menus in front of us. During that time, 3 other tables left, were cleaned, and new parties seated and two of those tables had lengthy discussions about the specials, the Prix fixe tasing option, as well as ordering. When we finally got a wait person’s attention, there was only brusque description of the specials and tasting option while our order was taken. The dinner then shifted into high gear and we then felt quite rushed by the staff, almost like they didn’t want us there in the first place. While they acknowledged our “rough start to the evening” and brought a small appetizer as an acknowledgement from the chef/owner, they still did not seem engaged in making sure we enjoyed our experience. Maybe it was that we were already disappointed with the experience, but the food also disappointed. All 4 dishes (two appetizers, two main courses), while beautifully presented, were overly salty and lacking in other flavors. Overall very disappointing.
Really really well presented food, the servers knew what they were talking about when they explained the menu to us and were super thoughtful and printed a custom menu for us as we were celebrating my friend's White Coat ceremony. Would love to come back here another time for another location and left a good impression on me as this is one of my first times experiencing a more fine dining experience where you're going with looking for a colorful and expressive palate rather than being stuffed to the brim. None the less, the portions we're good and the staff were very attentive and I loved the entire experience.
Dined here on Saturday evening. Service was very friendly. We were seated promptly. We both had the tasting menu, one omnivore and one pescatarian. Each course was creative, beautifully plated, and an adventure for the taste buds. The decor is simple but tasteful. The restaurant is small and intimate, but not overly loud, so you can still have a conversation with those at your table. Highly recommend and already thinking about when I can return.
With all the great reviews, we went expecting something truly extraordinary. It was overly fussy and pretentious, more about the appearance on the plate than the taste of the food. While the pictures of the presentation would have been noteworthy, the tastes were ordinary and disappointing. It was expensive, and the idea that our credit card would be charged if we canceled even 24 hours prior to our reservation was not welcome. We will not be back.
Our first trip to Will, but it won't be our last. Food was wonderful, inventive, and the portions were perfect. We did the Chef's Tasting Menu, and we were not disappointed. Cozy, but it allowed us to talk to our neighbors at the next table which added to the night. Thanks for a lovely evening.
Chef Christopher Kearse is extraordinary. The tastes, the visual appearance of the food, the adventurous presentations even of classic dishes ... whatever you order, you will have had one of the best meals you will ever eat. The ambience is lovely and service is friendly, polite, and impeccable. Clearly one of the best two or three restaurants in the city.
Will BYOB is easily, hands down, the best restaurant in Philly. The menu is imaginative, creative, and simply amazing. Always prepared to perfection, and never a disappointment at Will. The food is great, and the service pays amazing attention to detail. If you have not been here yet, you are missing out on the best dining experience you can have in Philly, and anywhere else really.. The price range isn't ridiculous either for the quality of food you are getting.. In short, Will is a must go to. Stop thinking about it, and just go.. you won't be disappointed.
Will has a pleasant environment and excellent service. The food was interesting and tasty, at a fantastic value. We went on a Sunday and got to enjoy their price fix menu. I found the portions to be just the right amount and spaced out appropriately. It is BYOB, but if you don't have a bottle, there's a lovely local wine shop down the block. It's definitely worth a try!
We have dined at Will several times , and lately have been introducing foodie friends from near and far to Chef Kearse' sublime creations. Our friend on this occasion was delighted with her meal as were my wife and I. This is our favorite restaurant in Philadelphia and my only regret is that we don't visit more often.
The chef is amazing and so is the hostess and waitress.
We come here for our anniversary every year for the past 3 years.
This year the stove broke during our service but, things happen.
They were apologetic and we'd had a lot of wine at this point so its ok.
I'm sure they'll make it up to us.
