Dear Shawn, We are so sorry, with the extreme heat this weekend, Wilfrid’s did read warmer than it normally would Thank you for sharing your feedback. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Our server was excellent. The table location, by the window and terrace was a nice touch. Those in our group who ordered beef were pleased with presentation and taste. I had the bass, and must admit was a little disappointed in size of piece of fish, but it was very good. Another, in our group, had the cauliflower dish and said it was excellent. . A birthday and an Anniversary acknowledgement was a very nice surprise at end of meal!
Food was amazing and the service was great.
Dear Gordon, We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your experience in Wilfrid’s. We look forward to welcoming you back soon! Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
We attended the breakfast buffet at Wilfrid’s while staying at the Chateau Laurier.
The food prepared was all fresh and what was supposed to be hot, was hot. What was supposed to be cold, was cold! The chef prepared requests on the spot and breakfast overall was terrific.
The ambiance at Château Laurier cannot be beaten. The staff was very attentive and professional.
The only drawbacks are the pricing, which is extremely high and the fact that you have to reserve through Open Table reservation system yet the restaurant does not award any points for the reservation.
Dear Steve, Thank you for your feedback, we are reviewing the Open Table comments with our team. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to reach out. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Best service I've had in a restaurant in Ottawa. Ellen and Matt were amazing!
Dear Cedric, We agree that our colleagues are our best asset! Ellen and Marr will be delighted that you took the time to recognize their service and we hope to welcome you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Had Sunday brunch to celebrate our anniversary. The quality of the food was excellent, service was good, and the ambiance quiet and relaxing. Great spot!
Dear Martin, We are honoured that you chose to celebrate your special occasion with us. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Ours was an intimate family celebration of a 50th wedding anniversary. The restaurant found a simple, elegant way to recognize this event. I would have preferred a large round table for seating as a rectangular table makes it difficult to interact with everyone. I had hoped to view the parliament buildings and was not disappointed. Food and service were excellent and all 8 main courses arrived at the same time.
Dear Margaret, We are grateful that you chose to celebrate such a special occasion with us. We strive to provide memorable experiences and it is always nice to hear when we have done so. We look forward to welcoming you back one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Wonderful food and lovely waiters! Strongly recommend
We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed the food and service during your recent visit. We look forward to the next! Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Greeted on time and ushered to table.
Would have preferred table in window room.
Children under 10/12 should be free. We had 4&7 yr olds who ate nothing. Charged 14$ for 7 yr old. Food was pretty good but not outstanding. Service excellent.
Children were welcome.
Dear Doreen, We regret your disappointing experience with us and appreciate your feedback. Please rest assured that we will follow up with our team to this regard. We hope to welcome you back one day. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
I found the menu did not have enough choices. There was no seafood choice as a main entree . My steak was not cooked to my liking and had a lot of fat on it.
The meal and cocktails were way over priced for what you get. The atmosphere was good. Service also good. Unfortunately I can’t recommend this restaurant to a friend.
We’ve been here a couple of times and all was great. I guess this time luck wasn’t on our side.
Aside, please bring back a pianist for you other lounge.
Dear Dan, We regret your disappointing experience. We value your feedback and you can rest assured that we take such comments to heart. We do hope you return one day; we are confident you will be impressed with the improvements. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Whenever a celebration is comely in Ottawa, Wilfrid's a wise choice that connotes a tidy sum worthily spent amidst a grand ambiance facing an exhilarating vista. It should bring forth smiles and evoke cheerful memories of things done right.
Dear Andrew, Our mission is to turn moments into memories and it is always nice to hear when we have done so. We look forward to welcoming you back one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
We absolutely loved Wilfrid's! The service was amazing. Even before I could ask, Jimmy let me know which dessert items had alcohol as he was aware I did not consume alcohol, so I really appreciated that. There were a couple of other items that had wine in them, and I was told they had a version without wine in the back and they brought a portion to our table. The staff and our server Nicole were very respectful and kind and made sure we were taken care of. Food was amazing too! Everything was so fresh and flavourful. Atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable too. We will definitely be coming back with our friends!
Dear Fareda, Thank you for sharing your compliments with us. We agree that the team in Wilfrid’s is the best in the business. We hope to see you again one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
We came here for Sunday buffet breakfast. The food selection consisted of dry cereals, oatmeal, mueslix, yogurt, fruits, smoothies, teas, breads and breakfast pastries, bagels, smoked salmon and condiments, hot foods such as scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, sausage, eggs Benedict, made to order omelets and waffles. Enough to fill you up. Coffee was inc for the price which was pretty good. Server was friendly and quickly took our order. I would have liked the table cleared of used plates quicker. Otherwise, it was a good breakfast in this elegant hotel.
Dear Christine, We are pleased that you enjoyed your Sunday buffet breakfast in Wilfrid’s. We strive to provide the best Experience and it is always nice to hear when we have been successful. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Excellent service,Friendly staff,Good food .
Very nice experience.
Dear Eugenia, It is always nice to hear compliments from our guests. We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit to Wilfrid’s and look forward to your next visit. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Quite possibly the worst hotel breakfast in the city... Generally an all-round poor quality meal, with an appalling selection at the buffet. Certainly not what one would expect at such from such a noteworthy hotel.
Dear Daniel, We regret your disappointing experience during breakfast in Wilfrid’s. Please rest assured that your experience is certainly not typical of our usual high standard of service. We do hope you return one day and allow us to show you the true level of hospitality that we are known for, Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
We visited Wilfrid’s to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Our first date was at the Canadian Grill in 1968. Our reception at Wilfrid’s was warm and friendly. Our server was attentive and efficient. The wine list was extensive but the menu was limited and overpriced for the quality of the food. The salads were pleasing to the eye and delicious. The main courses that we chose, strip loin “California style” and pasta were strange in appearance and unremarkable in the eating. We are glad we returned to the Chateau Laurier for the memories but we are not interested in going back and could not recommend it to friends. There is much better value to be had in Ottawa.
Dear Roy, We are so sorry to hear that your return visit was a disappointing one. Hopefully, you will give us another chance by returning one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Our server was wonderful - she delighted us. Unfortunately I don't recall her name (Hanan??) She had dark curly hair and wore red glasses. She made a very special evening even better! Thank you.
Dear Rebecca, We are fortunate to have so many wonderful colleagues, whose mission is to create memorable moments. Hanan is one of the best. She will be delighted that you took the time to mention her. We look forward to welcoming you back one day. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Food and service was superb!! They had forgot about the flower arrangement I had requested for the table, however they quickly prepared one and set it on the table promptly.
Dear Greg, We are so pleased that your experience was a memorable one and we look forward to your next visit. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Terrible service, poor food, good desert table We go every year to celebrate father day but we'll not be back, the service was so bad
Dear Francisco, Please accept our apologies for your disappointing experience. Rest assured that this is certainly not typical of our usual high level of service. We do hope you return one day, allowing us the opportunity to regain your trust and loyalty. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
We enjoyed the evening, the food, the wine, the service and the atmosphere.
Thank you for sharing your compliments with us. We hope to welcome you back soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
My wife was ill the next morning
Please contact our Executive Chef should you wish discuss this further. We would certainly welcome the opportunity to investigate further. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Portions were small for the price. Dessert was so-so.
Thank you for sharing your valuable feedback with us. We hope to welcome you back to Wilfrid's one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
I have sent you an email regarding our experience. Expected brunch not prompt me to brunch not available on
Monday, Victoria Day, 10 minute wait for for a beer and warm white wine, 40 minute wait for food when only one other couple and a family of maybe 8 people in the whole restaurant. Telling me you called me to confirm the reservations when my cal history clearing shows no calls. When we called en route, your hostess asked if the reservation was for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Why would she ask that if brunch is not being served.
Dear Sue, I extremely concerned to read your comments and apologize for your disappointing experience. Please rest assured this is unacceptable to us. Our Director of Outlets, Melissa Fafard will be reaching out to you shortly.
This was our first time there. It won't be our last.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your experience in Wilfrid's and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
What a wonderful atmosphere. We had such a lovely time at the Mother's Day Brunch. Would love to revisit for another brunch sometime.
Dear Alexandria, Ottawa’s ‘castle’ is the perfect venue for those special celebrations. We are so pleased that your Mother’s Day was a memorable one and we hope to welcome you back one day soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
We have gone for the special buffet at Wilfred’s for many years for various special occasions and always enjoyed it very much. However things have changed recently and not for the better. Firstly, after making our reservation for Mother’s Day, we were contacted and advised that we needed to pre-pay the entire meal in order to hold our reservation. Since we had booked a month in advance, that’s a long time to require payment in full. Secondly, the day before our reservation, we were called and advised that there was now a two hour time limit on our table reservation. This was never mentioned before when making our reservation, when we received confirmation nor when we were asked to pre-pay. Also, the cost per person has increased significantly so it’s a splurge for a brunch buffet and we didn’t appreciate being rushed. We were in fact asked to vacate the table after two hours had elapsed as the next sitting had arrived, despite my having requested additional time the day before given that we had family visiting from out of the country and wanted some time together. Lastly, the main buffet and salad buffet were still very good but the deserts have noticeably declined in variety and in quality. I don’t think we will be returning again.
As a loyal patron, we regret the poor impression you received as you reserved Mother’s Day Brunch, followed by your disappointing dining experience. Please rest assured that we take feedback from our valued guests to heart as they are the best judges of our service. We will take your comments into consideration during the planning process for future events. Hopefully, you will reconsider and return to join us again one day in the future. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
This was a special occasion, which I mention at the time of reservation. We were offered a window table. When we arrived, we were not given a window table. When I mentioned that we had asked for a window table, the hostess was rude in her response. “It isn’t guaranteed”, was all she said - No apology and no attempt to try to accommodate. Thankfully, our waitress was exceptional, which helped to temper our disappointment with not getting the window table and with the rudeness of the hostess.
Our mission is to turn moments into memories and I regret that we failed to do so on this occasion. While we are delighted that overall, your visit to Wilfrid’s was enjoyable, we do apologize for the poor welcome you received. This is certainly not acceptable to us nor is it typical of our usual high standards. We hope to welcome you again one day soon, where we will work hard to show you the service excellence that we are known for! Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Excellent food! Enjoyed our waiter, great sense of humour:) Alex
Our mission is to turn moments into memories and I regret that we failed to do so on this occasion. Dear Belinda, We are so pleased that your visit to Wilfrid's was memorable. Alex is certainly a wonderful colleague and he will be happy that you took the time to recognize him. We hope to welcome you back soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
My meal was excellent and service was outstanding. I will return. Parking is a huge issue. I was with someone who needed to use a walker and will not return because of this reason. The piped in music was very pleasant but rather loud so that we had to speak up to be heard during conversations at our table.
Dear Sandra, Thank you for your compliments regarding your experience in Wilfrid’s. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit. We are also anxiously awaiting the construction of our new garage facility and we do regret the inconveniences this situation causes. We do hope you return to visit us again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
Love the food the service great place
This was my first try at Wilfrid’s for a business lunch. The service was very good - attentive but not annoying, quick and professional. My lunch partner and I chose from the set $30 menu with a starter and a main. My starter was an avocado salad which was very nice apart from the roasted radish which frankly added nothing; neither taste, nor texture. The main of ravioli was well made and nice but the butter sauce was uninteresting (eg melted butter). My lunch partner’s whole trout burger looked good but it was hard for him to eat. The coffee was also good (no mean feat). It’s a good restaurant if you want to be able to talk and have some level of privacy, with reliably timed service so you can get back to work.
Dear Pat, We value comprehensive reviews such as yours as we are continually looking for way to improve the service and products which we provide to our guests and clients each and every day. We look forward to your next visit to Wilfrid’s. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
A lovely gracious location with an amazing variety to please every person. The helpful and knowledgeable staff and the well identified frequently replenished food trays and containers add credit to the behind the scenes chefs and sou-chefs.
Added value comes from the attentive table servers whose speed, attention to detail and customer needs, as well as their friendly demeanor round up the memorable experience.
We agree, our wonderful colleagues are the best in the business. They strive to provide the highest level of service each and every day. We hope to see you again soon. Sincerely, Marion te Winkel Director of Operations
We both enjoyed our meals but I felt mine was somewhat bland - better after I asked for salt and pepper. The strip loin and duck breast we're both cooked to perfection. We had foie gras as a starter. It was good but there was too much going on with the dish - the flavour of the foie gras was drowned.
We found the staff to be very good and quite congenial.
We had read that there was a "business casual" dress code. I would say that is incorrect. There were people wearing jeans at the next table. I'm glad I didn't wear a suit.
Dear Peter, Thank you for your comprehensive review of Wilfrid’s. Rest assured that our Executive Chef and his team will take your comments to heart. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Sincerely, Claude J. Sauvé General Manager
The food was not outstanding. Way too pricey. Portions are tiny.
Dear Murielle, We regret your disappointing experience. We hope you return one day and allow us the chance to regain your faith in us! Sincerely, Claude J. Sauvé General Manager
The food was wonderful and exactly as we expected, and the service was top notch. As it was Saturday of Easter weekend it wasn’t very busy, so it was quiet and no waits at the buffet. They expected to be much busier Sunday, with plenty of children, so I’m glad we went Saturday. The brunch was pricey, but so nice for a special occasion.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your Easter Brunch with us. We hope to welcome you again soon. Sincerely, Claude J. Sauvé General Manager
We always enjoy going to Wilfrid's. The breakfast buffet is one of our favourites! The food is always very good and the service is top class!
Dear Richard, We work hard to ensure that our guests have memorable experiences with us. Thank you for taking the time to share your compliments and we hope to welcome you again soon. Sincerely, Claude J. Sauvé General Manager
The variety and quality of food was excellent. I expressed my personal thanks to the chef for the prime rib. It was cooked to perfection.
We were there for a birthday celebration. We were seated promptly, a great seat along the windows. We were a group of 6 women who love to laugh and we laughed a lot throughout the 4 hours we were there.
The buffet was great - food was fresh and most of it labelled - there were a few missing, but easily fixed once the missing labels were pointed out to staff.
Everything was cooked, prepared, presented to perfection and not a negative at all on any of the food. Rave reviews for the blood orange meringues and the mandarin jellies.
It is always so nice to hear compliments from our valued guests and clients, as it is our mission to create memorable moments. We look forward to your next visit. Sincerely, Claude J. Sauvé General Manager
