Wildfish Seafood Grille - Newport Beach Ratings and Reviews
Busy restaurant and reservations are a must. Watch out for larger groups that come since you may have to wait for your table. Turnover is slow. The food is outstanding and one of the only seafood restaurants that I will actually order the seafood. Fish is always seasonally caught and "fresh". Their steaks are also outstanding. The service staff are all true professionals. I always have a great experience here. It is a 5 star experience.
We were very disappointed. Special occasion dinner, fine dining in upscale Newport Beach. 6 PM, Wednesday night, the bar was so noisy that despite being seated as far away as possible we had to lean in and shout across the table to share about what we were thinking of ordering. By 7:30 the noise had settled down to a dull roar that was still too loud but conversation was finally possible at our table. We felt the food was mediocre. Apple, beet salad was 90% lettuce. Asparagus undercooked and cold, Brussels sprouts bitter, crab fried rice too salty, $32 crab “stuffed” shrimp had a little crab sprinkled on top of a decent serving of well cooked shrimp. Server and service was great.
Ambiance is industrial, visible duct work, visible kitchen. That, in and of itself would not put us off.
Menu was boringly traditional, wide variety of oysters , good selection of very expensive, very large steaks, 6 or 7 standard types of fish each with a specific sauce.
It was my first visit but I was impressed with the whole atmosphere, I had a reservation so I was greeted by my name from the Hostess and the waiter. The wine selection was great and the food was excellent, we had seafood from appetizers to the main course and it was delicious. A little pricy but the quality is great, service was super! The waiter was extremely polite and attentive to our requests.
I highly recommend it and will go again.
I chose this restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner so my family could choose traditional fare or seafood or steak off the regular menu. While the price for the turkey dinner was comparatively lower than other restaurants I considered, it was still quite high for the quantity and quality of the food served. The pricing for other menu items was exhorbitant for decent but not exceptional food. I chose the Salmon entree and it was swimming in a mustard sauce that overwhelmed the flavor. I also ordered a side of broccoli that was served in a puddle of sour lemon vinaigrette. The Swordfish that we ordered was well cooked and nicely presented but did not warrant the cost. Additionally, I was not expecting the restaurant to be in a strip mall away from the heart of Newport; I was expecting more of a fine dining experience for the price.
We have ben to this restaurant and have always loved it. This time we went for Thanksgiving, because half of our party does not eat turkey and the other half find turkey meal to be their favorite all year. As usual, their regular menu food was outstanding. However, the Thanksgiving meal was disappointing. It was a goulash of turkey, beans cranberry sauce, potatoes and gravy. Looked like the restaurant was trying to cut back on the turkey. Although it was tasty, it was not a Thanksgiving meal. We will stick to their regular menu. Crab cakes are divine and appetizers are great.
Decided for the first time to go out for Thanksgiving dinner then making our traditional meal. We were a little skeptical but wanted to do something different and enjoy time with family vs being in the kitchen. The restaurants ambience was great and the service was even better. We had there Thanksgiving meal and it didn’t disappoint and the mini pumpkin pies were excellent. Would recommend this place not only for a Holiday meal but also for happy hour, dinner etc....Food was high quality and presentation was on point. Thank you for making our Thanksgiving so special.....We will definitely be back!
We came for the Thanksgiving meal. My wife had to send her plate back because it was barely warm. After the new plate came it was very acceptable very good. I had the salmon and it was very good. it was a little pricey especially $39 for a plate of turkey and dressing without any dessert. The service was outstanding all in all it was a very positive experience although very pricey
Had thanksgiving dinner with Party of 7. Wait staff excellent and helpful. Food very good. Daughter is vegan. Had great choices for her. I’m vegetarian. Ditto. Also offered traditional Thanksgiving dinner Only comment I would say about the Thanksgiving dinner the plate was just stuffed with food and not in an appealing manner
this was probably our 4th time there, the previous one was about a year ago and back then we really enjoyed it. today for Thanksgiving we noticed that the food was not as good as we remembered. the scallops dish - this time they were very small, the rice side i would consider that as an embarrassment to the restaurant as it was 100% a minute rice, the appetizer crab cake nothing to talk about. the girls chicken fingers again seemed and tasted less good than we previously used to, could be a frozen option and not made fresh . the only good dish was the 8 oz 8 oz filet mignon that was much better that Ruth chris. the hot chocolate Godiva surprised us as it was a very large portion and can easily shared if someone would have told us. the server was very anemic without any added value. next time we will try some where else.
Went to Wildfish for the first time on thanksgiving with my family and my wife’s cousin in from Denver. The staff was so kid friendly, professional, well organized and accommodating! The seafood was so fresh tasting and prepared perfectly! Our waitress did an great job with timing, service and a great personality and again very kid friendly. They had a great wine selection we loved our Pinot noir from Oregon. Great first dining experience can’t wait to go again!
Incredible food as always...some of the best prepared fish dishes I have ever eaten. On this visit we were a party of four. The booth we were given was much too small (none of us are big people) making it seem very crowded and uncomfortable. That said, I will go back because the food is so good.
Food was so-so. We ordered the seafood tower with lobster, crab, shrimp cocktail and oysters, and they were pretty good. The calamari and the lobster bisque was good. Chilean sea bass was good as expected but the steak tomahawk wasn’t that good. It was not soft but more like chewy, a bit tough and was quite on the cold side when it was served , so food could had been 4 stars but due to the steak wasn’t decent so I’m giving 3 stars instead.
Invited friends to join us who had not yet been to Wildfish and they loved the food, service, selection, everything! They live nearby, so Wildfish may turn out to be a new favorite. We drive over from Seal Beach when we're in So Cal occasionally & look forward dining at Wildfish again soon.
