First, they were able to accommodate a day of reservation change, which was very much appreciated. Second, a bit loud for a date night, but still able to chat without yelling too much. Watching the open kitchen was a nice treat. I'm not going to give you a nuanced review of the food, but the plates shared were, horse tartare, sweetbreads, green beans, poutine, and creme brulee. Sweetbreads are served on a charred piece of bread, which on one end was a bit too charred, as the burnt taste was a tad overpowering. Also felt the sweetbreads could have been a bit smaller in size to allow for easier consuming, but for a first time eater of sweetbreads, they were smooth and creamy. Would've appreciated a tad more gravy on the poutine, but all other parts of it were delicious. Horse tartare and green beans were as described and enjoyed. Creme brulee was lovely to share as an end to the evening. Would like to return to enjoy more offerings from the menu, but would hope for a little quieter evening.

The food was great but we were told that all the items on the menu were designed to be shared and I would disagree. We were told that getting a starter and a main per person would be too much food - not true at all. The food was delish so everyone get their own plate! They are not sharable and you wont want to share anyways!

Main dishes have a tiny portion

The most overpriced restaurant me and my girlfriend has been to... ($29 main dish includes one small cube of pork belly + 3 scallops) (Another dish includes 4 slices of steak for $36, refer to pic) - these were all main dishes

Veggies and sauce are very salty

Good for trying non-traditional meats but served in very very small portions

We went on a recommendation and were very glad we did. Everything was great and we tasted a bunch of dishes. Special standout to the scallops - made to perfection!

The food and the service were excellent. We took the option of having the chef decide our menu for us and it was a great choice. Everything was delicious!

the food was good but not the great meal I expected from the other reviews. I was surprised by the short menu. I was expecting more meat dishes, but there were only a couple (one being a 32 ounce steak that takes 45 minutes. So while I think most people could find something on the menu, after screening out a few (not a scallops or sweetbread fan) you may be left with only a couple choices. We ordered the Chanterelle pasta that was great, and a bison/beef dish that was good but very rare. The accompanied vegetable cheese gratin dish was really smoky (and not a mild flavor like apple, but a bitter smoke). Not sure what they were trying to accomplish. We mentioned it to our waiter who said basically, "yes other people have mentioned that too"

It was our first time having brunch here. Overall we love the food, but we've found the dishes tend to be on salty side especially that Merguez Hash. It was too salty that we had trouble finishing it. Marrow & Eggs was very delicious!

Very very salty food. Omakase are just random dishes from the menu that fit the price range you pick as opposed to what you’d expect from a real omakase, felt a bit misled. Also the server did not ask us how hungry we were, just asked us for a price range and off to the races (it was way way too much food).

Pretty low to average experience. The food was trying really hard to be trendy but generally fell flat.

Good place for a casual meal but not a date.

I was so excited to get back to Wildebeest after we went for dine out a few years ago, It was the same awesome place with super friendly and knowledgeable staff. It was the same great atmosphere i remembered but a bit more quiet on a weeknight. Our wait staff was amazing and the service was quick but not at all rushed. We could not believe when the charcuterie (forgive my spelling) plate came out how the lady who brought it out knew so much and was able to remember every detail when explaining what was on the plate!

Cant wait to come back and try the family style experience, Wildebeest is my favorite place in the entire city with the best staff.
see you soon!

I don't often do nicer meals and usually opt. For pub grub but for a special occasion I don't believe wildebeest lived up to expectations, a high price drink menu boasting $60 bottles of beer and food options to capture the meat eaters heart weren't backed up by the atmosphere of the establishment. I guess when your paying higher prices ( $34 for a delicious bison steak) I expected dimmer lighting, a higher level of service and a more professional feel, instead noisy r and b music bright lights and servers dressed for a casual affair that struggled to smile meant the experience was less than desired. The food was the best part and displayed brilliant, but apart from that it was nothing special.

Our dining experience at Wildebeest was, in a word, amazing. There was so much to choose from on the menu; we enjoy trying new and exciting foods & places and we were not disappointed! Our server was incredible - he talked us through how to properly eat the bone marrow with the 'luge' which was a first for both of us (and we managed not to make too much of a mess lol). I wanted to try everything on their cocktail list as well :) Our mains were just as tasty and fun to eat as the appetizer, and we would recommend both - I had the pork belly and scallops, and my partner had the elk, which was soooo tender! Truly an unforgettable west coast 'foodie' experience!

The food and wine selection was fantastic! We had been craving some unusual cuts of meat, after many nights in a row of seafood dining. They had foie gras, wild boar belly, elk, and bison meat! The portion sizes were nice for sharing and not overly large. My husband was a little disappointed in the beer selection; they had an IPA on tap, but it had just finished and they were on to the next keg, which was not an IPA. Overall, great restaurant and an unusual find!

Overall a great experience and I am happy I experienced Wildebeest. I did find the portions on the smaller side, however, that was most definitely made up by the Quality, time it takes to create this type of food and the incredible flavour profile each of the meals contained. Being highly familiar with wild meats, having had that a part of my pallet since I was born, I found each meal that had game meat was executed perfectly and would definitely have a non-game eater asking for more. One note, the lasagna is not a traditional lasagna, more of a cannelloni in my opinion but, tasty nonetheless. The cocktails really showed the amount of research and time it took to create each one, Wildebeest has a few drinks on the menu that fits any flavour you seek to wet your pallet.
I would recommend this place to anyone who would like to try wild meats with out the work, leave that up to Wildebeest and you will not be disappointed. Just be ware the portions are not big but, this will allow you to try more than one item - great restaurant find In Vancouver.

My wife and I went here for a date night, and we ended up leaving blown away by the tasting menu. Best culinary experience I have ever had. The smoked olives I would buy by the case for any price.higkky recommend if you want a full dining experience to remember. Drinks are also quite unique and well done.

Amazing dishes all from local sources and definitely out of the ordinary ingredients. I had the elk, a friend had the pasta with locally gathered wild mushrooms. Our starters were Boar pork belly which was out of this world. Traveled all the way from San Francisco and it was worth the trip

The service was excellent from the bartender to the wait staff and hostess. The House blend red wine was also very good. We probably should have tried one of the handmade cocktails. They looked fabulous and the bartenders were highly skilled and kept pace with a busy crowd. Very impressed. The food however was a big disappointment. We love to try all kinds of different combinations of food. But this time some items were just not appealing (the French fries with duck and cheese looked as if it had been thrown together and the cheese was not completely melted). Would go back for cocktails and perhaps some small dishes but would not chance dinner again

This was a great meal. Very interesting take on dishes. The charcuterie was delicious, perfectly balanced. The bone marrow dish and the green beans were great also. The only thing that really left something to be desired was the goat lasagna. It needed something... more of a sauce element. But overall a great dining experience.

Less than impressed. Disorganized wait staff. The bison, ordered medium came blood rare and salted beyond any need.
My wine glass was neglected until AFTER
the meal, despite having two bottles going.
When needed the staff were nowhere to be found. Loud to the point of distraction.
Over all i left unhappy and over charged, particularly for the cheese/charcuterie board. Ridiculous. I won't be back and will advise all to avoid the place.

We had a lovely experience here for my boyfriend’s 23rd birthday! Our waiter recommended the duck poutine, the lasagna and the bison steak; everything was delicious and his recommendations did not disappoint. All the flavours were really unique and complimented each other perfectly on each dish. The atmosphere is really lively and energetic - super cute spot in the heart of Gastown.

Some notes: the value was good but I think the portions could be a little bigger. Other than that, no complaints!
