Greeted promptly and was seated immediately. We received the request for a quieter booth so they gave us a corner at the back which was great. Excellent food and portion sizes perfect. It would be better to go even earlier than our 11:00 booking time as it was already loud and crowded then. Best to be there at 10:00 if we wanted a quiet experience. Even though we mentioned it was a birthday celebration, however, there was nothing mentioned nor anything special done for us. It would have been nice to have a special treat or comment.
My wife and I went to Wildebeest pre Canucks game and I would recommend Wildebeest pre-game for its proximity, the type of food and the vibe. It all works very well together. My only real criticism is the food. While the food is good, it seems as the food is reverse engineered, starting with what they want the finished plate to look like and less concerned about how the flavours interact together. This was true of our main, the pork belly and scallops, and the deserts.
When the main arrived, it looked amazing, the scallops had a perfect sear, although only on one side, and the pork belly was a bit too tough - not horribly so, and slightly bland. However, a red cabbage puree with caramelized green cabbage I believe it was, was used to pull it together. The result was a dish that was overwhelmingly sweet that killed the subtlety of the scallops, and buried the flavour of the pork belly.
We would go again however, I would recommend analyzing the items of a given dish and not just trusting that it works.
Surpassed expectations! Even though it was extra busy because of St Patrick's day, the kitchen and staff were well organized, the food came out timely and was delicious
Really nice menu
Food was awesome and the servers were very friendly
Great dinner before a show. The lasagne was fabulous! Only complaint is a it would be great to have more than one vegetarian option. I know the focus is on game and we love the food, but we tend to choose another restaurant when there is a vegetarian in the group.
Very nice restaurant, but they need to get rid of those stools as seating. They are really uncomfortable, which took away from the dining experience.
Great meal and attentive staff. Would eat here again.
Nice brunch meal and the cocktails were fun. I would definitely go back. Could use a few more fun things on the menu though for the brunch-goers. Maybe some beef tartare?
Food & service was great but so loud, our table of 5 could hardly hear over the music
Always amazing food and always REALLY happy with the service at Wildebeest. Always take my friends when they are in town :)
Overall great experience. There were 4 of us, 2 were extremely satisfied, 2 had feedback. The crab Benny was a little cold but still tasted great. The back bacon that came with the classic breakfast was delicious, but surprised to find only two small pieces - should have had more for the price.
Phenomenal food and even better service!
A very nice meal. Attentive but not pushy service.
The chair i had was not that comfortable.
We had delicious cocktails to start our meal and good advice about wine and food choices. Food was from good to excellent, depending on the dish, although some what small portions for the price. Surprisingly for a meat-based restaurant, I thought the sesame green beans were superb, and the brussel sprouts ceasar a knockout. The bison steak with fois gras was delicious. We also had pork belly with scallops, my least favourite dish - the pork belly was more like pork hock, smoky and chewy rather than melty. Service was competent and friendly but a bit rushed. I would have liked to linger, but food came very quickly , dishes were whisked away instantly, and suddenly we were out of there. All in all we had a good time and good food and drink. I would go back.
The service was amazing. She was very friendly. The good however wasn't too good. My salad was quite salty I feel that the chef definitely oversalted. My friends dishes were the same. It was nice when my friend asked them to add more hash so it wouldn't be so so salty and they went above and beyond to make a new dish which tasted great after.
Best birthday brunch ever!
The food was incredible q
Very nice staff, with warmth and knowledge.
I think I was the last reservation of the night at 1030pm. The dining room was still extremely noisy and the noise from the bar downstairs was over the top. Ok, so I'm the oldest person in the entire restaurant and I sound like my parents! Other than the noise volume, a wonderful place.
Great happy hour...the Brussels Caesar is fantastic!
Fresh ingredients put into interesting combinations. The flavours could be more balanced. My favourite dishes were the elk loin and burrata The service was outstanding.
A little disappointing. Everything just seemed a bit off.
We loved our experience at Wildebeest! We luckily scored a table with a view of the kitchen so we got dinner and a show! The menu is well thought out with options for all appetites (one of our number is a vegetarian). We were impressed with the food, wine and beverage recommendations from the staff as well as their care and attention to our dining experience. I highly recommend Wildebeest for a dining experience you won't forget.
Will definitely return! A wonderful dining experience: food, service and ambience were all excellent.
Food was great. Great wine, great server, named PM
Sub par food over cooked sweetbreads, very fishy fish
Service was good tho,
Went for dine out and the food was below average. You could tell they had the sides sitting out as the yam was cold and hard. Was not impressed. The tuna tartar was great though.
The food was excellent, and we never felt rushed or pressured, despite it being dine out. I would definitely go again.
Super yummy breakfast. Tons of choices and all delicious.
Loved the food & ambiance. The service by Julie & Robin, par excellence. It was totally Robin's sell how he convinced us during Dine Out to check out the weekend brunch. It was so worth it! Thank you guys
We went for dine out, so I think to get the full experience you would need to go at another time.
Dineout Vancouver menu on the website stated that everything was gluten free (GF), however the menu at the restaurant did not display that. All the appys and entrees were labelled as G, which meant it contains gluten. My dining partner was unable to order anything except for smoked olives and the pannacotta dessert. Menu was misleading and I wouldn't have reserved a table at wildebeest, if it wasn't for the "gluten free" menu as stated online. Extremely disappointed. Also, we were seated in the basement of the restaurant, which was definitely not as nice as the main level dining area. Better options out there, will not return. I emailed wildebeest and sent an Instagram direct message, stating that their menu was misleading and was false advertising. I am yet to hear from them.
Delicious selection of cocktails, wonderfully prepared food, and desserts that are to die for!
Food was good, portions were ridiculously small for the price.
Tried it out during Dine Out Vancouver. The food was delicious and so were the cocktails. However, bit pricey for a regular evening out. Save it for a special occasion.
We came for Dine Out and we were pleasantly surprised with the portion sizes. I highly recommend the confit duck leg - it was amazing and melts in your mouth. The only downside to the experience was I felt they took drinks away a little too quickly. I was barely done my drink when it got taken away and I saw this happen to another patron was well. Not a big deal - the area is dimly lit and it was hard to see but it would have been nice to finish.
Came for the Dine Out Vancouver $40 3 course menu, we were all sort of disappointed with the experience, none of the courses stood out, and some were very bland, not that we like food over seasoned as we can appreciate the natural flavors of some dishes but there was no flavor at all and the protein portions were pretty lacking. The cache creek flat iron steak came with 3 small pieces. I may need to come back for a normal dining experience to see if that is any different, but other restaurants I have tried during the Dine Out festival have been great so it’s unfortunate when you feel like you’ve wasted your money.
Johnathan gave us excellent service and recommendations; we enjoyed every part of our visit, from the host hanging up our jackets upon arrival to our server Johnathan stepping in as cameraman for our sherry bone luge shots (we highly recommend the bone marrow!), and our food was incredible.
We will definitely be back with more friends!
We have never been before, came for dine out vancouver. What a spectacular meal! We will absolutely be back!!
Great space and service. The Dine Out Vancouver menu was a little spartan. The pork polenta appetizer was delicious but the duck confit was terrible. It lacked flavour and was almost burned to ash. What they called a chocolate cake was a small sliver of a regular cake slice no bigger than my middle finger. It was decorated with almond shavings and some sweet "stuff". Luckily the sake saved the day.
Our waitress was great, very enthusiastic and ready to give recommendations - She was very knowledgeable about the wine pairings.
The dine-out menu wasn't great - the portion of the steak was quite small according to the two guys in our party that ordered it. They thought they were getting a full steak not just a few small pieces of one.
The food was delicious and the service was quite attentive. I had a salty element on the plate that I let the kitchen know about. I was in no way complaining, I just wanted them to know. Management came to talk to me about it and apologized which was not necessary, but very appreciated. Overall a completely wonderful experience.
