Nestled in the historic Great Petaluma Mill, the Wild Goat Bistro offers a casual dining experience in a rustic and inviting atmosphere. We were celebrating our friends moving away. There are so many choices and Petaluma amazing restaurants but wild goat was on the top of our list. Boy are we happy we came! The food was amazing… Point on perfect. We also got the lemon cake for dessert OMG, superb. The service was great, the food delivered as promised and hot (this is important to us) and the meal was cooked just right. We got the French Pork Chops (don’t hesitate getting this it was great and so tasty with the puréed parsnips and cranberry sauce.
Our only complaint is it can be noisy and squishy in this restaurant. But we didn’t mind as we made reservations, in advance, so it all work s out just perfect.
This restaurant was fantastic! We were seated right away upon our arrival. The waitress came immediately to the table to get our drink order. They have a nice wine selection as well as non alcoholic drinks. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the food (i.e., portion size, popular items on the menu, etc) There were 3 of us and we shared: Polenta Fries (Try these! They're Really Good!), Roasted Brussel Sprouts (Just the right amount of bacon and glaze), Bad Boy Sliders (Meat was super flavorful and cooked to perfection, very juicy) and the "In Season" Butternut Squash Pizza (It might sound like an odd topping for a pizza but I can't say enough good things about it!! The pizza dough was super fresh and thin, the quality of the toppings and the way they balanced their flavor was very creative...and once again, cooked to perfection, it was delicious!) The only downside was we were seated up front where its a bit crowded. When we left the restaurant I noticed there was more seating in the back of the restaurant where it may have been a bit more quiet and more conducive to conversation.
We have always loved Wild Goat, but were served a really bad calimari entree that frankly should not have been passed out of a really good kitchen. It tasted old and fishy, and the vegetables were really salty - a really unpleasant experience. We arrived at 6:00 and were ignored for the large part after we placed out order. No water refills offered the entire time we were there. A true disappointment from this place. One thing they did do right was cut the price of our food when we complained to them at the end of our dinner. The cake, by the way, was delicious as usual!
We are regulars to this fine dining place close to home. We both notice the changes in most everything regarding food or physical things at the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoy ourselves here with the great food and ambiance.
However, we were disappointed that the bar stools have been changed at the front counter. They are quite uncomfortable as compared to the previous ones. The footrests are not at a comfortable height plus the seats are quite hard,flat and uncomfortable. My wife had to stand through most of her meal. Please find a more comfortable bar seat set!
Aside from this, everyone did a great job to make our Friday dinner a success!
The food was very good and loved the wine list. We sat in the back room which was nice and quiet. The decor and ambience were on the boring side. Oddly there was only one other couple seated when we arrived and they tried to seat us immediately beside them at a very close table when the rest of the room was empty. That would have been extremely awkward as it would be impossible not the hear everyone’s conversation. Overall it was a good experience. They ran out of their specials very early in the evening and all night the service was friendly but a little off and unsophisticated. The meatball appetizer was delicious as was the short ribs entree. Fresh ingredients and good flavors.
We went for a family birthday dinner. I had a lucious thick pork steak that was so large I ended up taking 1/2 home. I was slightly disappointed by the brussel sprouts as they were a bit under done & not crispy as I hoped for, but the mashed potatoes made up for them. My husband had a delicious filet mignon and my son had a good sized order of ribs. We were offered a birthday cupcake but as we had cake at home we declined. Service was perfect.
A great little gem recommended by a friend. The location couldn't be more convenient to the Mystic Theater and public parking was plentiful. We were seated right away. The remote dining room kept a small restaurant feel. Service from the owner cordially greeting us to our server being helpful and friendly without being overbearing made us feel welcome. The help with the wine list was welcome and informative. Wine prices were reasonable without a huge mark up from retail
Food was attractive, flavorful and to temperature. The special cioppino was plentiful and tasty. The Quinoa Sweet Potato cakes were a pleasant colorful and tasty vegetarian option
The bread was the sole disappointment, flavorless. The wine list was varied giving a good selection across all price points. The dessert selection made it hard to decide and both choices, the Nutella Chocolate cake and the Salted Caramel cake were delicious and very rich and most selections were gluten free. Pricing was moderate with the total bill coming to around $110 (the wine was $60) and a great dining value

We ate here last year, and the food was wonderful. Though the calamari steak we had was over salted, it was cooked perfectly. We decided to give it another try. We went for lunch on NYE, and it was disappointing. The menu is beautifully written, and the flavor blends in food are excellent. However, the cooking was unimpressive. We ordered the roasted Brussels sprouts, which can put over cooked and soggy. Then we ordered a pizza, which the dough was weighed down with too much cheese, and undercooked, making for a soggy center. We finished with the coconut cake, which we had last year, and was just as remarkable and heaven amy as we remembered. This place is a gem, but the food was not being prepared in a careful fashion, which took “tasty” to disappointing in two courses. Hoping they get back on track, because the underlying design is superb.
I love this place! We luckily got 3 seats together at the “bar” where we could watch the chefs and be tempted by the desserts in front of us. Fabulous service, yummy food (gluten free fig and pig pizza) and cozy ambience. We were showing my visiting sister the local sites and spontaneously decided to dine here. Highly recommend.
My wife and I tried the new SMART train from San Rafael up to Petaluma, and went to the Wild Goat for lunch--a short walk from the station. The food was excellent. We shared a corn and goat cheese soup, a citrus, crab and baby greens salad, and their Pig and Fig pizza. Innovative and tasty. Plenty for two people.
I take away a star for the drinks. They have a limited beer menu, with only one IPA. My wife ordered an interesting chardonnay. It was served in a tumbler, not stemware, and it was too warm. (The reason wine is served in stemmed glass is to keep your fingers from affecting the temperature.) The portion was quite small and the price quite large--$12. That is an uptown price for a glass of wine.
But no complaints about the food.
Excellent meal and service. Everything was on point and they were very accommodating to my gluten free needs. The salad was perfect. Entrees were very well received by the group. One would be a fool not to save room for desert. Server was really the best....perfect pace and pleasantness. Will definitely go again.
