The menu changes with the seasons, but always features hearty, farm-driven food sourced from local ranches, purveyors and artisans. Our steaks are our forte; grass-fed, grass-finished, butchered in-house, dry-aged for 21 days and meant to be shared.
We are open daily for breakfast, lunch, happy hour and dinner, along with weekend brunch.

It was way too loud, could barely hear the people at my table speaking.
A vibrant and fun place. I ordered the trout which was recommended by the waitress. At $31 this was a small piece of fish on some beans. It wasn't especially hot or tasty but I didnt want to interrupt dinner to send back. The $12 caesar salad was unremarkable. Overall I would say that the some attention needs to be paid to food and presentation to justify the prices of the entrees.
The biscuit and gravy was so good. Chef should have won the james beard, the place is amazing. The only reason i did not place a perfect score was that my fiance ordered a croissant and it never came. We finished our meal and the bill came and we had to ask to take it off.
Great cozy, easy atmosphere. The kitchen sent out a slightly wrong order but the wait staff fixed it so fast it wasn’t even a big deal. Best brunch I’ve had in a while. Would definitely go again.
Terrific as usual.
We were very pleased to find a restaurant for Thanksgiving that had an alternative to turkey on the menu. Whitfield also offered prime rib or fish. My husband doesn't care for turkey, and with just the two of us I wouldn't get the turkey dinner I love for Thanksgiving if we didn't eat out! So I had turkey and all the trimmings and he had the prime rib. Side dishes were served family style in bowls. I loved the sweet potatoes served with toasted marshmallows on top, but the dressing seemed dry and a little burnt and the cranberries could have used a bit more sweetness. It was a little tight on a small table for two with all the bowls, and we were situated right in the center aisle with servers and guests rushing past on both sides... not an issue, but we had to be careful not to let anything get bumped off the table. The noise level is a little high, but we could still have a conversation. Most of the meal was very good. Dessert could have been better since the included apple pie and pecan pie were served chilled. Room temperature or lightly warmed would have made all the difference. Overall, a good experience. We would go back and try it again!
Servers were so helpful!!! They were very attentive to us and provided whatever we needed.
The food was not good. The service was just ok. The ambiance was good.
A great venue that is both hip but welcoming to all ages. The only thing unwelcome in the evenings is parents with children playing games and dominating the rather minimal lobby seating area.
This was my first time at Whitfield. Everything I had was very good. The French onion soup was flavorful and the baguette/bread had a nice crunch to it. The duck was cooked medium rare and the pureed potatoes with honey carrots added a nice combination of sweet and creamy to the dish. And our server, Fred, was outstanding. While the food was nice, the selection of wines by the glass was limited. In terms of ambiance, it was too dark for my tastes, at least where I was seated.
Interesting atmosphere to say the least. Excellent steak.
Asked for onions in the home fries- sorry we can't do(?????) Dry home fries with TONS and TONS of paprika-unedible. Steak on steak and eggs was undercooked. Looks like it was frozen when cooked. POOR quality meat- more than 1/2 was unedible - Mostly fat. Only good for the dog. (He enjoyed it!)This is the second time we have tried brunch here and the last.
Food is good, service is lacking.
We've been there a few times before, and as always, the food was excellent and the service was very solid. The only thing that would be better is if it were not quite so loud. The acoustics from the bar area carry over into the restaurant, and conversation is possible but can be a challenge if you have any hearing loss. But, the food is so good that we'll be back often.
steak was outstanding, sides were a tad underwhelming, but well priced. the focaccia is not to be missed. service was very good, attentive without being stifling.
Great food. Good service.
Everything was perfect!
Brunch was delicious, and our server was fantastic. Will definitely be returning for brunch in the future.
We were a party of 4 there to celebrate two birthdays. We each ordered an entree, and one couple ordered an appetizer to share. The appetizer never came, and when the entrees were served, we asked about it. We were told that was a dessert item, which seemed strange since it was on the appetizer list, but we went along with it, expecting it to be brought later. It never was, and when we asked, we received a simple shrug of the shoulders... no apology, no seeming recognition of their error. The noise level (it was a Saturday evening) was excessive to the point that carrying on a conversation became near impossible. The quality of the entrees was fine, and the portion size seemed appropriate, but I left feeling the restaurant reviews on which I had based my decision were a bit too complimentary.
Brunch was excellent! 🎸🎸🎸
Ok, must be at least 50 characters. Ah, there it is.
Great! Service was on point, not too obsessive and not scarce. Drink options were varied, but not overwhelming. Food was creative and portions were a bit on the small size but flavor and creativity of the dishes made them interesting. Very enjoyable dinner.
Bacon Jam app was delicious. Pesto chicken was rich and tasty. Fish was good but bean side was a little too vinegary. Server was fantastic (friendly, attentive without being obtrusive and knowledgeable). Our second time there in our second visit to Pittsburgh. Will recommend and definitely come back.
This was a great date. Aside from good company, the restaurant gave me two free glasses of complimentary champagne because they were unable to accommodate my initial on-menu request. Our waiter was attentive, kind and helpful. The food was very good, although the particular cut of meat we got had a little too much sinew in it.
Inside the Ace hotel in Pittsburgh, the Whitfield strikes a great balance between casual and upscale. The ambience is warm, relaxed and stylish and the service is fabulous. Particularly our server, Julie. She was friendly, professional and efficient and immediately helped us feel welcome and comfortable. All of our party loved what we ordered and everything was delivered quickly and at the right temp. Kudos to the Whitfield chefs and staff! We can’t wait to return.:)
Food was exceptionally good. As always.
I enjoyed my food. My husband didn’t care for the steak. He said it was too fatty. We got the 24 oz share/ family style New York strip. I wish we would of had bread for our dinner also. The idea of the atmosphere is unique but we sat next to the window and really had to squeeze between chairs to even use the restroom. It is a bit noisy and I think the flower lattice is very tacky.
Birthday
Waiter, Connor, was exceptional!!
eclectic menu, very well done food, good service. Ambiance not so good. Restaurant and nearby lobby very busy most of the day. Modern cuisine with energetic millennial.
Very nice people: greeter/seater, waitress, etc. Good menu. Good food. Good service. I liked it. Nice setting - kind of modern hip, but comfortable. We've been there a few times, and I will go back again. Expensive, but worth it.
Great Ribeye steak cooked perfectly with a nice char on the outside, medium rare on the inside and very juicy. Great sides and very good wines by the glass.
This is my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh! The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is really unique. I would highly recommend dining here for any occasion!
the food was excellent and very approachable. The ingredients were fresh and all aspects of our meals were prepared in-house; this goes a long way with me. Service was terrific. I recommend this venue for dinner service. I have not had any other service but confident that each is well done. Thanks.
Nice place great food
Appetizer and desert were very good. But disappointed in an $80 “38 oz” steak which probably had less than half that weight of actual meat (rest was bone). My son and I shared it and it really wasn’t much for two people. It was also overcooked. The French fries were soggy and nothing special at all. Definitely not worth the cost. Won’t be back.
Food was great and service was spot on! We loved it there.
Great breakfast place. Hip, good menu. Refurbished ymca, also a hotel. Enjoyed our meal
Wonderful place. Serious service and great food. The only oddity is the music—sixties rock doesn’t suit. Maybe its for the bar next door? Off-key IMO. That was the genre I noted but I didn’t hear anything that fit.
We had an excellent meal. I had the duck breast and my wife had the duck confit from the bar menu. everything was well cooked and tasty. My only complaint is the excessive air conditioning. However it won't stop us from coming back regularly, we just need to bring winter sweaters.
Sunday brunch
Sunday brunch was delicious. So many options to hit any craving you may have. Very filling too. The price was pretty on par with other brunch spots in the city. It was noisy in the room (as it is in the lobby of the Ace Hotel so no walls or carpets to absorb the noise) but my friends and I were able to converse easily. Would definitely want to go back to try other menu items. I ordered the Sweet Potato Scramble (would highly recommend for fans of savory) but was eyeing up the table beside us because their pancakes looked amazing.
