Very basic expensive restaurant having nice surroundings with a very high noise level. Weekends are especially bad since the number of people eating there are young kids. Staff indicated that on most weekends it would be wise to wear ear plugs or shooting headphones. The food is for the most part is excellent in taste but very expensive since every thing is ala-carte. There are many better places to eat in Mammoth Lakes at a much lower price. The atmosphere that your eating in is great during the week but not on the weekend.

We brought friends for dinner and wanted to try the new menu. Glad we could get in. The service was great and we enjoyed the food.

We celebrated a couple of adult birthdays at Whitebark while visiting Mammoth. The ambiance was very nice, the waitress (wish I could remember her name) was amazing, very open about what was really good, and also those that were not as recommended. We enjoyed several appetizers, which were large portions, and some of our party just ordered small plates after the appetizers, and we all had plenty of good food.

The new executive chef has created a different Whitebark that I will no longer be going to. Serious decline in menu.

7 people for Mother's birthday. Nice menu with choices for all. Had the pork belly, with an unusual presentation, but yummy. My NY strip was cooked a perfect medium-rare! The server was great. She was on her A game, very friendly and knowledgeable.

Good choice of appetizers and mains. creative cocktails and wine list. Kids liked the burgers and tomatoe soup, we shared the lamb shank and polenta. Better food then any options in Mammoth village.

Service was terrible. Although we had a reservation, we had to wait 15+ minutes for someone to set a table for us. Waitress was terrible. Food was ice cold.

Christmas vacation in Mammoth. Starters: edemame and Brussels. Perfect, not over seasoned...the veggies shinned. New York steak and greens salad, meat cooked to perfection. Mac & cheese w/bacon bits (chunks), creamy deliciousness. The pot pie was a comforting, flaky pastry atop a delightful blend. 3 cheese plate with honey, olive tapenade, cranrasins, sugared walnuts (subtle not overdone)...would like a goat chee or blue to balance the mild Brie.

No more sushi? We come to this restaurant every year, but something has changed drastically with Whitebark! It is not at the same level it once was. I would not go back the food was disappointing.

We’ve been here every year since it opened, this would be the first time that we are disappointed with the service and food. Our waitress had no personality. If she didn’t want to work on Christmas Eve, then she shouldn’t show up with a long face. The food used to be good here, but the quality went down and the choices from appetizers to entree were marginal. I hope this is a one off, because this would be sad for us who came here every Christmas Eve for a celebration dinner.

Take note, Whitebark no longer serves sushi! We went in to have sushi and was very disappointed to find they no longer offer sushi. The rest of the menu was OK. Our server could care less that we were disappointed and the service was not great. They did have good gluten free options.

We’ve been to this restaurant twice and have had the same experience both times. Our server had too many tables and couldn’t provide good service to anyone. It took almost 10 minutes from when we were seated to when someone said hello and offered to serve us. I ordered the tomato basil soup (easy enough) and it came out luke warm... my husband’s sushi was good. We were a little annoyed in the end. We don’t get out for date nights very often, so this felt like an expensive mistake.

The fried brussels sprouts are amazing, and our shishito peppers were good as well. Unfortunately, our entrees were not quite as delicious - I had the salmon with peach BBQ sauce and my rice was undercooked. I would recommend trying sushi and vegetable appetizers/sides.

We unfortunately went here for a our 45th Anniversary dinner. I had the pork loin, and my wife had the roast chicken. Both were mediocre. Our server was inattentive. Even if the food were better, they have a very small selection of entrees. The wine was the best part of dinner. Not recommended.

While staying at the Westin my wife and I had dinner at the Whitebark. The restaurant is on the main level of the resort. It also has a bar that was rather loud.
We liked the menu and our food as well as the wine were very good. Our server was extremely nice and attentive. We had a great dinner.

Whitebark is one of our go to places in Mammoth. However, they now won't let you order sushi at the restaurant, only in the bar and at the sushi bar. We had dinner reservations through open table but we had come for the sushi so we ended up in the bar (group of 4). The hostess then cancelled our reservation so we couldn't accrue our opentable dining points which was so underhanded given we spent over $200 that night eating there. Open table ended up honoring it.

This is a great restaurant set up and the servers were wonderful (dawn especially). The duck was disappointing. The shishito peppers with goat cheese were very good. In the future I'm just gonna stick to coming here and having a beer. The happy hour drinks are a good deal but the food is not.

This restaurant is inside the Westin. I don't expect much from hotel restaurants, and this was at the expected level. My husband and I went in for their sushi special which they have every Monday. We got miso soup, some salmon sushi and a Minaret roll. They were all good enough but nothing special. The sushi were smaller than we're used to, and the roll was dryer. I'm used to rolls having so much sauce that I don't need to dip them into soy sauce, but this one needed to be dipped. For dessert, we had the creme brulee, which looked very good and had a nice top layer of the torched sugar, but the main custard part had the wrong texture, more like a flan I think.

BTW, when we arrived, the hostess didn't ask us if we were there for the special and sat us at a table. We had to ask our waiter for sushi menus, and he grabbed them from the sushi bar which we were right next to, removing the sushi special inserts. I asked about the special, and we had to be moved to a different table to get the special. I don't really understand what was up with all that.

It's very possible their non-Japanese dishes are much better, but I doubt I'll be coming back since there are so many great restaurants in the area.

NOT IMPRESSED! We went for our 18th Anniversary and shared we were there for a special occassion - the hostess nor the server did NOT really cared much! Our server was slow (had to ask someone to call her over twice as she never came by to check on us) - we had dirty dishes were left on the table the entire meal and each time she came by did not bother to clear any. And there were only 4 tables in the entire restaurant .... so there was no excuse for not having better service. The food was average and should have been stellar for the price! Disappointed.

Menu has fewer choices than before and, unfortunately, no Asian-inspired selections. The waitress was useless: delivered a bottle of water and disappeared, even though there were few diners in the room. Has to flag down another waiter to get a wine list. She cleared the knives with the appetizer dishes and did not replace them for the main course; again another waiter had to solve the problem. She was uninterested in the fact the white wine was not chilled enough to last until the food arrived.

This review is for when we were there April 15 at night. We went there somewhat spontaneously as a party of 11 and the food was wonderful. Service was fine.

We had a reservation just for our family of 4 for the next morning at 11 am, and it seemed redundant to come back within 14 hours, so early the next morning I tried to cancel through the Open Table app, but it would not let me. I then called the restaurant several times to cancel, and they never answered the phone. I finally left a message asking to cancel, and asking for a return call, and they did not. This is a hotel restaurant that was open and serving breakfast when I called. I had tried calling the restaurant several times prior to that to see if Easter Sunday had a particular brunch, or just their regular lunch menu, and never reached anyone and never got a call back. So, I would have to say that their phone/communication customer skills are lacking.

The menu listed on Open Table is not current so we were disappointed in the current changes made to the menu. You can't order sushi during "peak" hours unless seated at the sushi bar. This is very odd. The Caesar salad was unexceptional and the croutons appeared to come from a bag. Not worth $12. The steaks however, were cooked perfectly and were very good.

One of our party ordered soup as an appetizer and a salad as dinner - salad arrived before appetizers were finished. Another ordered a steak medium rare - it arrived rare, when we pointed it out the server argued it WAS medium rare - had to be convinced to return and cook longer.
At initial order we ordered a side dish - long after the dinners arrived, no side dish. When we pointed it out the server blamed the kitchen, but when we paid the check the side dish had clearly been added d after all the other items.
Food wwas very good, but the service was terrible.

Whitebark had excellent food and ambiance. It stands out from the other restaraunts in Mammoth because of the quiet atmosphere and very helpful servers who had excellent drink and entree recommendations. Even though this place is a little more expensive, I would definitely come back again.
