White Orchids Thai Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I are food snobs; sorry to say. We are used to going into Philadelphia to the latest restaurant that food snobs like us are talking about. This time, we were meeting friends who were staying at a hotel close to the Allentown airport. I searched Yelp for an hour and found this place thinking it would be tolerable and at least we could do some shopping in the nearby stores while we were there.
The food at the White Orchid totally surprised these two food snobs. My wife had a haddock dish and I had a traditional Thai noodle dish. The dishes had a great balance of flavor and spicy heat. We will keep this on our list when we are up in the Lehigh Valley.
The service was good. The atmosphere was great for conversations. And it was obvious that the place has quite a following because every table was filled at 6:30 when we arrived and a second seating filled the place when we were leaving.
I would definitely recommend the White Orchid to even the worst food snobs, they will be pleased.
Had a terrific lunch during Restaurant Week. Food and Service were very good. Only issue was dessert. The "special" off the menu carrot cake had a $14 price tag. That was very disappointing considering our lunch was $17. You are not the Ritz Carlton NYC. That charge was ridiculous!
We came for restaurant week.
Loved the money bag app and green curry with chicken and rice.
The sticky rice was perfect ending to the meal.
Bartender made a really good dirty martini.
Very attentive and friendly staff.
Would definitely come back.
We ahad a loving evening sitting outside while enjoying cocktails and a delicious meal. Service was good especially considering they also were supporting a group of 30. They seemed very prepared. If you like carrot cake, you have to have theirs! It’s better than your grandmas!
A wonderful restaurant with knowledgeable and accommodating staff, delicious food, and cozy atmosphere. My fiance has a shellfish allergy and the staff here is always amazing at accommodating his dietary needs, and we have never had a bad meal here. I wouldn't go here for a quick dinner, because the service tends to be a bit on the slow side, but it is the perfect place for a romantic date night. The summer rolls and the Massamun curry are personal favorites- fresh, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying.
Our service is usual great, but this time we waited at least 10-15 minutes, after being seated, until someone acknowledged us, then after our food was served, we didn't hear from anyone asking how everything was and/or if we needed anything , until AFTER we were finished our meals completely? Very disappointed... but I know this is NOT the norm, I would definitely go back again!
We have been dining here ever since they opened and have never been disappointed. Any item ordered so far has been delicious and tasty and the portion sizes are very good. A great dining experience for any occasion and a must place to bring family and friends. As always a lovely evening and money well spent. The staff are all courteous and make sure we have a good meal. Thanks for ensuring we had a wonderful evening.
The first time here (several weeks ago) was wonderful and delicious and we were excited to come back. Our party returned for a Saturday night dinner, many of us happily re-ordering what we enjoyed the first time. All of us left disappointed in our meals. It didn't even taste like the same entrees! Service was slow, despite the waiter being very friendly. Based in our second go, we do not plan on returning. Disappointed.
The food was outstanding, not the average Thai food. The service was excellent, the waiter gave us good options and guided us on the menu.
The kids menu was healthier than in other restaurants.
You should try the entrees and not going for the typical Pad Thai!
Our server, I think her name was Sarah, was PHENOMENAL!!! Attentive, incredibly knowledgeable and able to answer all of our questions, and even made some suggestions based on our preferences. All the food was delicious... loved the $2 apps at lunch too, they were the perfect size! Will definitely be back :D
My husband and I made a late-evening reservation for an impromptu evening out. The menu was just long enough, not overwhelming, and our waiter (Carter) was lively, funny, and helpful when I needed some direction on selecting my meal. We will ABSOLUTELY return, and hopefully soon. After eating, we looked at each other and joked about starting the meal over because it was that good - we wanted a second round (not that our stomachs could hold it, portions are generous). When we decided to see a movie afterward, Carter devised a way to preserve my leftovers so that they wouldn't sit in a hot, humid car and go bad. :) For 30 year olds who desperately needed a change of pace and an evening off of parenting, this was fabulous!
Great Thai food, with excellent options in food/beer/wine and cocktails. I love eating here. I keep my selections really simple - pad thai, curry bowls, spring rolls, tom kah gai soup....nothing fancy, but always good. My friends who order fancy seem to love it. I'm just boring, and I like the basics.
Our party of four had a very nice lunch prior to a movie. The service and food were great as always. Its about our 5-6th time there at this point. The only issue is that the lunch menu is a little on the sparse side. Not a lot of options, however we did like the special of an app mixed with an entree for about 17 bucks per person. I think with drinks our party spent around $100 including tip.
Sadly the chicken satay appetizer we ordered was cold. We had eaten 2of 4 sticks by the time the waitress had come back and we asked her, "Is this supposed to be cold?" She said, "Oh, is it cold? No, it shouldn't be. I'm sorry about that." We just all kind of stared at each other, so we said "Well, we guess it's fine," and she walked away. No resolution - no offer of another. Not taken off bill. Somewhat strange.
The calamari was just okay - at least that app was warm. The chicken in both the satay and the Pad Thai was flavorless. Not sure if it was be used I asked for "gluten free," but the chicken was rubbery and had no flavor.
Don't know that we would return, unfortunately.
The outside seating was a great addition because the weather was really beautiful. The waitress was super friendly and constantly checked in on us to make sure everything was fine and we had everything we need. The food itself was great. The rice serving could have been a little bigger in proportion to the size of the curry, but nonetheless it was very delicious.
