White Oak Kitchen + Drinks Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is fabulous! We picked it on a whim and were so thankful that we did. The food is fresh, local and delicious. Lots of gluten-free options on the menu. The staff are very friendly and great at their jobs. We were visiting with friends and Julie, our waitress, was the perfect balance of being attentive but allowed us to visit and never made us feel rushed. We highly recommend this restaurant as it exceeded all of our expectations!!
We had high hopes as the menu looked good. The service is spotty at best. Not sure if it’s just run poorly or they don’t keep much inventory as every wine we ordered was not available. Then the one bottle they had was warm. Keep in mind it’s a list of about 20 bottles total. Inventory can’t be difficult. The appetizers we ordered were more like bar food then a decent restaurant. I can’t recommend the place and won’t be back. I would be surprised if it’s there in a year . We tried.
We used to love this place for Sunday brunch. But our most recent experience was very disappointing. The food was okay — nothing special, particularly given the price. Also, the absence of the breakfast pizza on the menu is a real shame. But the service was the real problem. Even though we had a reservation and there were several open tables, we waited a long time to be seated — mostly because nobody was at the hostess station to seat us, and the tables needed cleaned. The service only got worse after that. It took forever to take our order and then bring us our drinks and food. One cup of coffee filled with grinds, and no one ever came back to offer a refill. It was obvious the staff is bored, lacks motivation, and they don’t really seem to care about customer service. What a disappointment for a place we used to really enjoy a couple of years ago.
Hostess was great; checked me in and seated me as soon as I walked in. My waiter was no where to be found; I sat and waited for 10 minutes with no waiter--eventually I signaled a different waiter from another section just so I could place my order.
I honestly contemplated walking out but opted against it as my hostess was so kind and I was famished.
The waiter issues seems to be of the norm because the table next to me also had to call for a random waiter minutes after being seated to place their order.
I ordered the watermelon lemonade which was mostly water melon juice (don't get me wrong; it was a freshly squeezed juice that tasted like watermelons) with no taste of lemonade.
For my entree, I opted for the chicken and shrimp pad Thai. It was cooked and served to me within 20 minutes.
The chicken (which was ground) wasn't consistent with the chunks of shrimp it was mixed with in my personal opinion. The sauce for the pad Thai was overwhelmingly nutty. It was more of a peanut curry taste rather than pad Thai sauce. And although it was edible and tasted nice it wasn't pad thai sauce. With that said perhaps this isn't the best restaurant to try out Thai food especially if you're reading this and new to it. Go for a more contemporary American dish. I'd hate for you to judge Thai food based on a dish at an American Contemporary restaurant.
I accidentally chose this restaurant and was disappointed to find that I had chosen a mall location. Service was obscenely slow, we had to ask frequently for our server and prompted all needed items. Wine list was bleak, menu left much to be desired and execution was in line with all other experiences. Would not return.
Our party really enjoyed the food. One of our drinks was slightly off but they fixed it pretty quick. Overall I felt the service was really good and everything came out on time. Do yourself a favor and use the valet and when you eat there they will validate your ticket. We probably wasted about 20 minutes looking for a spot. We aren't the galleria pros anyways so it's all new to us.
I was looking forward to a good meal based on reviews. We ate off the brunch menu. the avocado toast and the eggs benedict were very mediocre. Others at the table enjoyed their meals. I would try again but could not recommend to friends until I figured out if this meal was a fluke. Maybe I need to drink next time:)
We went here for mothers day. I had the chicken and bacon waffles which was really good. My wife had the mothers day special which came with an entree and dessert for $25. She had the smoked salmon with poached eggs, which she was not really all that enthused about. The dessert was the upside down pineapple waffle which was literally a waste of money and time. It's just a regular waffle with pineapple baked in and whipped cream on top. It's not exactly what we had in mind for a dessert. Other than that, staff was great and friendly. And free valet parking when you valet through Westin Oaks! I might come back if we are in the area, but I wouldn't make the trip from Katy otherwise.
Not great, not bad-
I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The truffle fries weren't as great as I expected and were delivered room temp. The last few bites of my burger were super salty. I drank an entire carafe of the brunch punch and felt nothing. I'd call it overpriced. The staff was genuinely nice though and not overbearing- I thoroughly respect that :)
We went for my girlfriend's birthday, and I couldn't have chosen a more friendly, customer service focused restaurant, and with some of the BEST food I've ever eaten. Period. I've been to many fine restaurants, but the combination of flavors, balance of textures, and creativity in their dishes was absolutely exquisite. We had the fish tacos and .steak frittes. Also, the servers were extremely attentive, prompt, and genuinely friendly. Even though it was our first time there, they made you feel like a regular. I had also set up a birthday dessert with a candle and dropped off a gift to them earlier in the day, and they executed the little surprise flawlessly. Thank you again for making our evening so special!
We went for a Saturday brunch and the restaurant is hard to find unless you know the Galleria Mall and I would have easily gone anywhere else for better food options, ambiance, and service. Pass this up unless you are hungry, in the mall, and Shake Shack is busy.
