White Oak in Brooklyn serves up a fusion of French and American cuisine. It has a comfy, casual setting that features a fireplace in the dining area. French onion soup, crab cakes with root vegetable slaw and gnocchi with black truffle butter make wonderful appetizer choices at White Oak. White Oak is an establishment with a vibrant evening atmosphere and adult fare. Portions are substantial and delicious; the bar serves creative specialty cocktails and the dining area is both relaxed and sophisticated. Generally speaking, it is not a place to bring your kids (at least in the evenings). The service is attentive and personable. While I dined here in midwinter, I remember the space from former restaurant owners. The backyard dining area is an incredibly uplifting space for warmer weather. I wish the new establishment great success!

In my efforts to court a very sweet girl, I decided to take a chance and take her to White Oak for our second date. Upon arriving, the wonderfully friendly bartender (Mark) easily identified me as someone taking out a girl and did a great job of making me feel incredibly welcome while I waited for her to arrive. This guy, it's hard to explain just how awesomely friendly he was.

Once she arrived we quickly grabbed a seat. We both got the mushroom ravioli - which we both loved, and that was it. We were there for 4 hours talking and at no time did we ever feel that we were rushed or treated with any less attention or respect despite the fact that we did not order much. The place was fairly empty, but I feel we would have received the same level of service even if it was packed. This is definitely going to be a place that I come to over and over again.

Needless to say the date went great, I like to think the setting helped out with that. This is a great spot and while I would normally regret not knowing about it earlier, I feel that my first visit was the ideal first visit.

We had a nice brunch at White Oak. The duck omelette and the duck with waffle were both outstanding.
One thing that bothered me, though, was that they don't serve decaf coffee. I found that odd at a restaurant that serves brunch. Other than that, though, it was a very good brunch.

Waiter let us know ahead of time people did not show up for work on New Years Day. Although the wait was long, the servers did their best to accommodate on a day where they were understaffed. They handled the delay in service very well with constant updates, comps, and apologies. Way to overcome adversity.

we had a lovely greeting. the restaurant was almost empty, with only one other table. They had our reservation and sat us promptly, but as the night went on, the service got worse and worse. Our water glasses were never refilled, and the waiter never came to check on us. We had to ask for the food twice. once the food arrived, the duck was almost rare and my medium hanger steak was rare also. Since we had waited over an hour to eat, i didn't want to send it back, bc i didn't know how much longer the food would take. The brussel sprouts was the best thing there.

The steak sandwich was delicious. The grilled cheese had a funk that I just couldn't get past. And I like a good funky cheese. Salad was good. No one was there on a Sunday night. If I had to eat there again, I would be able to handle it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hit it up again.

Very bad business to put us at front table by door - it was freezing and no one at back of restaurant while we were there. large parties showed up later, so we did NOT have to be cold!

From the Rose, to the brussel sprouts and the to-die-for mussels, this was a pretty pleasing experience. It was a relatively quiet Thursday evening which picked up eventually but didn't impact our girly catch-up. The waiter was uber-attentive without being pushy. We managed to share the profiteroles (the plate and their display made them almost too pretty to eat) which were quite scrummy. Looking forward to a return visit.

There are too many charming places on Smith Street to waste your time here. The restaurant was virtually empty for brunch, which should have been a sign. The food was alright, although they were out of several items, e.g., yogurt parfait came without granola. No personality to this place. Stumble into one of the many other options along Smith that don't take reservations and you will be far better off!

The Duck and Waffle sandwich was extremely delicious. The waiter was nice enough to even complement my choice and said this is the best breakfast/brunch dish in the house. He was right, I couldn't have asked for a more satisfying meal. The service was very good, however the busses seemed to be new and took 15 minutes to bring us milk for our iced coffees after repeated requests. Not a big deal though, probably just inexperienced. Other than that, it was a great brunch and I'll definitely be back!

Dinner at 6pm on Nov. 6th.Very accommodating staff and management. We were a party of seven and heading for area theater. Lovely relaxed meal.. Praise all around, a nice find. The east coast (Maryland) oysters were fabulous. All praised.

Disclosure: I'm becoming a regular, so Sharif, the owner, comped my table a round of drinks.
Review: I came here several times this summer since the garden is so nice. Had hoped to eat there again, but it was getting brisk, so garden was closed. (Sharif offered to let us eat there, but it was chilly.) Upstairs is noisier -- it's getting more popular. But conversation was easy at our table.
The food is very reasonably priced for how good it is. The menu is eclectic: everything from oysters to pulled pork. I have tried to recreate the potato puree with fennel at home and not been able to get it nearly as good. My foodie companions pronounced the flight of profiteroles the best they had ever had.

What a find. Tiny little place with a beautiful garden area in the back. Service was impeccable, we were treated royally.... Amazing for a place we'd never been to.

While I frequent White Oak for dinner and drinks, this was my first brunch experience. I had the eggs benedict with crab cakes, my date had the pulled pork sandwich. The eggs were poached to perfection and complimented the crispness of the crab cakes very well. The salad on the side had the perfect tartness to compliment an otherwise decadent dish. The pulled pork was very juicy and tender. Service is always on point here, and the backyard patio is beautiful. I would highly recommend taking advantage of it while you still can before winter comes!

Really really good food! It's also a great atmosphere. I've eaten both at their bar at outdoors on the terrace, both in a group and on a date and this place was great for both. The service was a little patchy when we were a big group, with a forgotten order and an extra charge on our bill, but overall everyone was friendly and we didn't wait too long, and the mistakes were corrected appropriately. Will be going back, definitely enjoyed my evening there!!

Not my first visit ~ Brunch was excellent we sat outside great area looking forward to Spring!
Recently went for dinner was just as nice sitting in back of restaurant by window
Our friends in area go often they said food always great a "true neighborhood gem"

Enjoyed dinner quite a lot. Food was very good. Actually my steak was excellent. Good portion size and cooked perfectly. Nice menu selection. Something for everyone. Price was excellent and the service was fine. I have no complaints at all. I recommend White Oak and will definitely go back again.

Great brunch menu-we enjoyed a spicy well balanced Bloody Mary-a generous size! Perfectly poached Swedish eggs, poached duck eggs on waffles with duck sausage, polenta with shrimp,
and almond French toast. All of our entrees were perfectly seasoned. Service was great! Delicious full bodied coffee. Wish they had freshly squeezed orange juice. Charming patio for warm weather dining.

Service here is amazing. There is not a single member of the staff here that is anything less than kind and hospitable. In the summer the backyard patio is so beautiful and they have happy hour oysters throughout the week. The owner specially chooses the craft beers seasonally and it's always on point. Great ambience, great music, friendly faces! Can't ask for more!

My daughter and her husband went to White Oak when it first opened and liked it. The menu has shrunk and the food was meh.
