White House Inn Ratings and Reviews
Fantastic food, and a warm ambience. Perhaps the best burger I have ever had. Server was fabulous, and I tipped him in cash after being told he might not get his tip if I put it on Visa, due to management who have told staff they were closing and let them go. This was unfortunate and clouded our visit, because in every way this was a fabulous experience, with excellent food and service. Hopefully the Hermitage will treat this staff ethically, because they did a great job and represented the establishment very well. Any employer would be glad to have them.
We have been coming to the White House for 35+ years. It has changed so often over the years. Now, the dining room is much more informal. The options are geared to families — which is fine. But, it is no longer a nice date night place. The entrees are more informal. I would suggest this to young families or if you are a couple, eat at the bar. The have added a sushi menu which is nice. My wish....decide what you want to be and stick with it.
Our first time to the White House Inn and we enjoyed it very much. The menu is small but innovative and certainly offers something for everyone. The Korean spiced chicken wings were fabulous as was the kimchi served with it. Burgers were delicious and had some unique offerings. The fried chicken and waffles looked great and the mole sauce was outstanding.
The waiters we very attentive but we were very disappointed by the food. The restaurant tried too hard to be creative but failed on the most basic level. Our appetizers were average but our entrees lacked flavor, were over cooked and dry. I don’t recommend this restaurant.
Server did not know the details of the preparation of one of 2 meals. Service was slow despite the restauant not being particularly busy. My husband's pastrami burger was good but my chicken was just ok. Very pretty setting, but between the service and just adequate food I can't recommend.
Our dining experience at the White House Inn was very disappointing mostly because of the pervasive pretentiousness. I believe that it would be a major improvement if the chef ditched his overwrought creations and instead prepared simple but well-prepared dishes. The maître d' and the receptionist should stop being haughty. The staff actually serving the tables did its job well, but the next level up was imperious and snooty. While the White House Inn is a nice-looking establishment, there is ample room for improvement.
Disappointed. Service was slow and they messed up my order. The salmon was very bland with no taste--actually, a bit fishy. However they did take the entree off the bill. The menu is kind of odd for the formal white table cloth atmosphere. A bit snooty without the exceptional menu. With other great dining options in the area, no reason to return.
We always enjoy our meals at the White House. The views are beautiful and the food is very good. The service is normally very good, but unfortunately this time the restaurant was quite busy so our service was not as good. We had to wait quite awhile just to get our first drink and then long wait times in between courses. Our server was very pleasant though.
Overall we enjoyed it.
We shared a stone fruit salad, burger, and ice cream cookie for dessert - good portion sizes, best Burger ever! Our waitress was fabulous - she was from the island of Jamaica, but can't remember her name, I'm sorry to say. Our experience was top-notch, from start to finish.
We had a 6:30 reservation & got there on time. The people standing in line ahead of us had a 6:45 date & were immediately seated. We were asked to wait. When I spoke up, we were seated.
My friend's salad had a plastic spoon in it.
The dining room was extremely noisy, so much that we could not hear each other.
3 strikes. We won't be back.
This was the best meal my husband and I have had in years. The use of unusual yet complementary ingredients and creative, sumptuous sides worked beautifully. The wines by the glass were superb. And the best part is that the prices for this unusually creative and delicious food are super reasonable. Wow, what a gem!
We had breakfast before heading home and the food was amazing. The service was great and the eggs and pancakes were all excellent. The restaurant is very pretty and the hostess gave us a tour after our breakfast. There are secret passage ways and it was so much fun. I would definitely eat here again and even stay here.
Service was very friendly but a little on the slow side. The food took quite a while to come out. Both the wings and the duck were very dry and overcooked. The burgers were average. The horseradish crusted steak had a thick coating of horseradish mustard on top, which was excessive and overkill. The menu is very fancy, with many fancy sides with each dish. We felt that it would have been better if less time was spent on the many complicated sides and the entree was better executed. Dessert was average, except for the s'mores milkshake my daughter had. The only flavor you tasted was burnt marshmallow. We had to send that one back. Very disappointing for a meal that cost over $200.
Second time visiting this week since we were in VT for a week skiing and liked it so much the first time. We had the same salad and it was good but last time it was excellent. It was a Caesar salad and it wasn't prepared as nicely and was not as large, but still good. We were splitting it and had to ask for another plate. We ordered burgers this time both Lamb and short rib burger, we liked both but as is typical lately, hard to eat due to the size. The French fries were great and so was the dessert of ice cream which was a very large portion.
Everything about our experience at White House Inn was perfect. The place was small and quiet and the staff was very attentive and described the dishes so well on the menu that we wanted everything. The food was soo delicious. I had the short rib gnocci and my fiance had the ribs and both were amazing. I will definitely be back!
The staff at the Inn were extremely friendly. They made sure both the kids and adults were comfortable. When waiting for food they let the children watch TV in a lounge downstairs so the adults could talk. At the end of the dinner, they let the kids walk through the hidden passage which made their night. Thank you for a magical night.
We have passed The White House every time we visit Mt. Snow but this is the first time we dined here. We wanted some place special for Valentine's Day and we weren't disappointed. Everything was wonderful and it made for a great special dinner. We started with the Caesar salad and then we both had the duck, we loved both. We finished with a great dessert of beignets and we ordered ice cream to go with it. The beignets were good, only thing I would suggest is that they would be lighter. They have a small menu with a wide variety of choices all sounded great, will not pass by in the future.
We started out in the Tavern for a beer. While the service at the bar area was something far less than responsive by one bartender, another bartender "stepped-up" and helped us out (we waited 10 minutes with not even a glance of acknowledgment from the first bartender - disappointing). However, our experiences were really great thereafter. Our server in the dining room, Jillian, was just fantastic. She was so responsive to our needs, and enthusiastic about the menu - sharing ideas with us regarding choices. We have been here several times before, and continue to really enjoy the food, atmosphere, and generally the service in the Tavern is good.
Initially they had run out of a popular brand of liquor--they were understaffed--they had run out of a particular entree, they had run out two of the wines by the glass-they had run out of blue cheese- table not set properly- and finally--what restaurant that features burgers as most of their menu runs out of ketchup? Staff did their best. And all this was on a Wednesday--wonder what happens on the week-end?
Pretty location and space, we also had a lovely waitress BUT the menu needs to be retooled. Caesar salad is a grilled chunk of romaine, my son was served 15 fries in his order and chicken entree was 3 odd turds of chicken. It's trying to be different but not in a good way. We came once when there was a sushi option and that was better.
We had not been to the White House in over 17 years and did not know what to expect. Thanksgiving dinner was amazing. Turkey, stuffing, sweet potato tartlet and kale w/blue cheese. What no mashed potatoes!?!?! That is what we said. Mashed potatoes were not missed. Dinner was delicious. Breakfasts were wonderful. Fresh eggs, local bacon and breads. The service was above & beyond.
