White Barn Inn Ratings and Reviews
Delicious food artfully presented and excellent service made for a wonderful evening. The favorite for more than one of us at the table was the lobster removed from the shell and formed back into a lobster shape, served with cognac coral butter sauce. The waiter assured us that it's always on the menu so it will be there next time we dine there, thank goodness!
My husband and I enjoyed a romantic dinner at the White Barn Inn on Saturday, July 30. The food was superb and the service attentive but not intrusive. The wait staff is well trained--professional and courteous. We went with the reserve wine pairings and discovered a couple notable wines in the process. The liked the quiet atmosphere and rustic, elegant decor. A lovely experience all around. We look forward to returning.
Lovely restaurant with fabulous ambiance. The bartender was less than friendly so that was a disappointment in starting our evening. The service started out very slow as our waitress was quite frazled but got much better as the night progressed. However, the food was fabulous and the restaurant was truly beautiful
Not what it used to be. As everyone notes, service is stellar, but in my opinion, too stiff. Anyone can familiarize themselves with how food is prepared and what wines should be paired with them (and the wine pairings were excellent); but to also add some personality takes much more skill, and both my wife and I found the wait staff much too 'robot' like. The food was not that well prepared. I expect a dinner that costs on excess of $200 pp to be incredible; my halibut was overcooked (cardboard texture). Funny that another reviewer had the same issue. Quail breast was a joke; I know quail is small (I've had it many times), but smaller than your pinky?! None of the flavors 'popped'. Give me Ken Oringer's food (Clio, Uni) any day over WBI!
As Europeans we would have expected the in a restaurant of this level that would be tables where guests would be able to have a conversation without the background noise of canned music from loudspeakers.
The good news: the food is close to perfection, the ambience is Great, the wines are fine, even if the price for the accompanying ones is . . .
But we Would have dinner here again!
Beautiful location and great ambiance-especially with the piano playing in the bar area. Food was good but not as good as we expected for the price. My wife had halibut and it was overdone and did not appear to be pan-seared at all as we were told by the waiter when ordering it. Everything else was very good-and they made a great Hendrick's martini. Some good cheese selections for desert as well.
My husband and I spent a wonderful evening for a special birthday at the White Barn restaurant. We were seated within minutes for our reservation at a lovely table in the corner with a view of the garden. We chose the Chefs Tasting menu! Each dish was wonderful! All 10 of them!It is our second trip to this restaurant and we definately will be back. The service was fantastic. We truly loved our experience! Thank You!
What an amazing meal. A true work of art and delicious to the last bite. I'm reluctant with prix fixe menus and set courses, but this was an absolute gem. Portions were just right. The flavors were rich and scrumptous. My wife and I shared each tasting. A true special occassion venue and dining experience that will be etched in our memories for years to come.
From the flawless attention of the staff to the extraordinary cuisine and wines, the WBI is without parallel. Only minus was a Bose speaker perched directly over our corner table. When I commented on it to Brian, our waiter, it was immediately rectified. A truly unforgettable dining experience.
My husband and I come from a family of foodies and have become very, very picky about where we eat. We were given a gift certificate for the White Barn Inn and were very excited to go as we had heard the food was excellent. No one mentioned that my husband would need a jacket in order to enter the restaurant so he was given a " loaner" jacket which was an embarrassments for both of us as we certainly would have planned ahead. The space was beautiful although a bit too quiet which made us feel a if they were taking themselves a bit too seriously. The food was outstanding though maybe a bit fussy but we enjoyed it. I know the WBI has a huge reputation and the food does live up to that but for us, we want the whole package.
We celebrated our 25th Anniversary at the White Barn Inn. It definitely lived up to its reputation and the memory will stay with us always. They were attentive to my special dietary needs, and the service was impeccable. Each course was an artistic masterpiece and tasted as good as it looked. Great night, great occasion, and cannot wait to have another special occasion to celebrate there.
I celebrated a special occassion here with my wife and while the setting and service were excellent we were disappointed with the food - it was a good distance behind the other local restaurant owned by the same people Stripers. I have given it a good rating for food as my wife's food was good and while I wouldn't order the same again I would give this place a second chance. My unfortuante selections were both lobster based (when in Rome...) and were the most tasteless food I ate in the 4 days we spent in Kennebunkport and we ate some fantastic seafood and lobster the rest of the weekend.
Top Notch Everything!!
My husband and I went here to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. Everything was amazing.
Our server was outstanding- she made great reccomendations regarding everything from the food to the wine to the dessert.
Wonderful experience. Can't wait to go back!
We celebrated our anniversary here and it was worth it. You are treated like royalty at the White Barn. The food was amazing, the chef is well worth all his awards. You can do a wine pairing, which we didnt do, but will on our next visit. Overall the place is impressive. I couldnt say anything negative. We will definately go back.
Spent a magical relaxing long weekend at the White Barn Inn. One of the highlights was the wonderful restaurant on site. The food was absolutely delicious. The wait staff were attentive, friendly, engaging and added to the memorable dining experience.
We'll be back!
We returned to the White Barn Inn for a guest chef weekend, which included the 9 course tasting menu with several dishes prepared by the guest chef. As usual (since we have returned often) the menu was varied and excellent, staff flexible to changes we requested, and service exceptional.
First: We asked for something later than a 6 o'clock setting. Although we were told "not possible" we found many tables were not occupied for the later sittings. The service was absolutely outstanding...from the valet parking to every single staff member. The portions were just right. At the end of a long meal no one felt "stuffed" and that includes the tiny candies added at the end of the meal. The only real disappointment was the food. Nothing was bad, but nothing was outstanding. We all made sure to taste what the others had ordered and we all agreed. This is a special occasion/event venue and as it is so expensive we all had high expectations. We were last there a couple of years ago and this trip was a major let down.
WOW! We expected to like the White Barn Inn, but we had no idea what we were getting ourselves in for. From the moment we stepped in the door, everything was perfect. The host was friendly and efficient. He showed us to a quiet table in front of a large pane of glass where we could admire daffodils, hyacinths, tulips, and forsythia blooming on a protected porch. Everything we ordered from the scallops, foie gras, sorbets, salmon, and sunchoke and goat cheese ravioli to the banana souffle with chocolate sauce and peanut butter gelato were perfectly prepared and presented. Then there were the petits fours and the service. All of it was extraordinary. If you want a very special place for dinner in southern Maine, you couldn't do better.
