About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Great for fine wines
Our contemporary New England cuisine has been rooted in the local and seasonal long before they were the mots du jour on menus across the country. At our AAA Five Diamond, Forbes Five Star restaurant, we showcase incredible ingredients sourced through specially cultivated relationships with the farmers, fishermen and foragers of coastal Maine and just beyond for beautifully-presented, always inspired dishes that encapsulate the very essence of our spectacular setting.

We have a smart casual dress code; jackets are preferred, but not required. Shorts, sportswear, and flip-flops are forbidden in the dining room.

Our first time at White Barn Inn and food and service were amazing. The decor is beautiful . The piano player added greatly to the ambiance. Every portion of the dinner was delightful. Fresh seafood prepared with imagination. Delicious ! We will be back.

I ordered the Lobster Bisque wife ordered the Peekytoe Crab appetizer. For entrees we had the Tea Smoked Duck and the Butter Poached Lobster. Bisque was lukewarm warm flavor was good but lobster meat in center was actually cool and the broth was lukewarm. Peekytoe had a nice presentation but average taste. Entree’s were average with the Lobster lacking flavor and again not hot. Service was good but overall experience was underwhelming.

I had not been to the White Barn since before Covid. It’s changed. In those days, I rated it 11/10 every time, yesterday no. First, the food was excellent except for the beef tenderloin. The beef itself was tasteless, the sauce was fantastic All the other courses were top notch. The wine pairings were done well. Then, if you are paying over $500 for dinner, cork in the wine is unacceptable. And, the dining room was as loud as a junior high cafeteria. We could not hear each other across the table. We asked to be moved and it improved. But in such a small room if you have a table of six woman speaking and laughing and yelling to the other end of the table, it just is not a pleasant atmosphere for dinner. They left 15-20 minutes later, but their place was taken by another woman who was speaking so loudly I could hear everything she said from the complete opposite side of the dining room. I understood that these were not things the White Barn can control, but they put a damper on the whole dining experience there Would I go back? Not for a while.

We were so excited to come back after nearly 20 years but have to say we were very disappointed by the food. Service and ambiance were wonderful. Tuna crudo was overpowered by very spicy sauce. Lobster bisque was heavy and unappealing, and served room temperature. Rhubarb dessert had unappealing texture and heavy on cream. Top price (close to $300/person including wine) for a very average meal. Truffle Risotto was the star of the evening but was a $45 add-on to a $175 prix fixe meal. Staff tried so hard to make a special experience but the food just didn’t live up to it’s reputation as one of the best restaurants around.

Beautiful space. My second time eating there over 2 years. The service was good but not as amazing as my first time. We had the worst seat in the restaurant with direct sunlight into our eyes....it did not affect our meal but it was annoying and had to wear sunglasses at times. The food was delicious...especially our first and last course. I don't know what happened to the bread though....maybe it was put into the steamer and then dried out? It was inedible. Other than that the meal was lovely.

The White Barn Inn offers an unforgettable experience that truly dazzles! With its warm and inviting ambiance, mouthwatering culinary creations, and top-notch service, every moment feels special. The staff, especially Peter and Sophia, went above and beyond to make our 3-hour dining adventure incredibly comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable. We can’t wait to return and share this gem with our friends and family!
