Awesome in every regard....
Amazing Valentine's dinner, great service, incredible food. Definitely expensive, but for a once in a while experience it's worth it.
Loved everything... thank you
The White Barn Inn is absolutely lovely; romantic, warm and comfortable while being 'dressed up'. The people from the valet to the wait staff and hostesses are all helpful, professional and friendly. If service and atmosphere are the priorities for an event, it'd get 5 stars.
Background, we expected to splash out financially when booking the reservation, we also expected to be wowed or at least very happy with the food, respectively we did and we weren't. For two of us with tip, not drinking much, i.e. no cocktails, just wine pairings with dinner, no coffee after, we clocked out with tip for two of us at +$600.
The menu is prix fixe, but for example, the selections for the second course were underwhelming at best, soup and quenelles of sorbet. The sorbet selections should have been palate cleansers, the rose one was very good. Oddly there were also upcharges for many ingredients, which at these prices and at this sort of establishment just shouldn't happen. All of this could have been forgiven if the food we did get was sublime, it just wasn't. Almost every course was stodgy, even the lobster main was held down by a too heavy sauce. The beet pasta in the first course was good, another pasta from that same course was thick and heavy with a lot of salt. Desserts were too sweet, but they looked good: we couldn't finish dessert or the wine that went with it. It felt like they were trying hard yet it felt dated.
We've eaten at many Michelin starred restaurants, and stayed at Chateaux Relais inns, paid less and had food to die for. Now living in Portland, with the exceptional restaurants that have garnered Portland the honor of being the #1 city for food in the USA, The White Barn Inn is going to have to figure this out or die as a restaurant where people drive for the food. So...next birthday we'll stay in Portland. Thanks though to the lovely staff, they couldn't have been nicer and the ambiance was magic.
We've been to White Barn Inn on many occasions, but had been unable to return for several years due to living out-of-state. In the interim, Chef Padilla has been appointed Executive Chef. We were blown away by his creations, which marry the tradition of this restaurant with a new and contemporary style. The lobster main course was a particular highlight, with the caviar beautifully complementing the champagne beurre blanc. The service remains unparalleled, with servers able to describe dishes and field inquiries with grace.
The entire experience was 5 star. Wonderful ambience, great service, terrific menu.
Wonderful special occasion choice
Have been a regular for thirty years or more. A great special occasion place. Bill from New Castle NH
This restaurant never disappoints! It was beautifully decorated for Christmas which made the dining experience even more special!
Great place! The food is amazing and the service as well. I would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion as it is very expensive
We have been going to the White Barn Inn for Christmas dinner for 15 years. We have watched the level of dining drop gradually but this year was just too disappointing. We will not return. It is so sad to see such an elegant dining experience become so mediocre.
What happened to the bread ? What happened to the pewter chargers on the tables ? No amuse bouche, no dessert tree with small treats, the menu was also disappointing. I will miss the good old days, when our Christmas dinner at the White Barn Inn was sure to dazzle, and be an elegant end to the season.
Love our regular server, Chris, who always takes such special care of us. Appetizers of Lobster Bisque and Foie Gras were outstanding as were the Lobster entrees. However, as with our last visit, breads were pedestrian and stale. Soufflé was under cooked and bland. Bouche du Noel cake was dry on the inside. We will of course, return but wish their pastry team was better.
The Christmas Eve dinner was wonderful. A true treat that we will do again. Amazing and completely special evening.
Special pre Christmas dinner - our meal amazing!
Robin and Andrew, as well as the entire staff, were outstanding.
Looking forward to returning.
We frequent the restaurant at least 3 times a year for the past 15 years. We were very disappointed during this visit. Service was just OK too many new servers. The souffle dessert was not what we had in the past, much smaller in size and poor choice of orange flavor with vanilla ice cream. We expected Chocolate or Berry as in the past and there was no sauce. The ramikin dish was half the size as in the past. And lastly, the portion size was much smaller than in the past.
Our first dining experience and it was superb; the food, the service and the holiday decor outstanding.
It was the usual awesome dining experience! I've been quite a few times and I'm always so excited because I know I will never be disappointed!
Four friends enjoyed our traditional trip to the White Barn Inn. We were greeted by the friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in the comfy Loon Cottage and had a delicious dinner including white truffles over egg pasta, lobster bisque and venison accompanied by perfect wines. We had a wonderful conversation w the restaurant manager, Robyn who comes from South Africa and our server, Christina, took the time to show us how to make a napkin “lily”. I hope I don’t have to wait another year to return.
The food was exquisite, beyond exceptional. Beautiful atmosphere & fabulous service
The White Barn Inn is like no other. It never fails to delight with tiny Chef's tastes to perfectly cooked entrees (prime rib and duck ) expertly delivered to the table. And variety of truffles for after dessert! The servers are knowledgeable and fully versed on the menu offerings. And the holiday decorations are wonderful. Cliquot by the glass...wow
It was perfect for our anniversary once again.
ps Would love to have local oysters on the menu.
Service couldn't have been better. The entire staff and the barn are outstanding. We loved the evening but its definitely a special occasion place, very pricey!
Place is very special and service is platinum level.
Food just wasn’t that good. 1st course salad was just weird with too much gooey cheese. Main course for 2 people - lobster and steak - were quite disappointing. Lobster had some unusual seasoning that tasted almost like soap or something unusual. Also had a sauce on the plate that was not complementary . Steak was mediocre at best. Not overly tender but cooked ok.
For the price just low value.
One of the best restaurants in New England. Charming staff and fabulous cuisine. The wine pairing made for an amazing experience.
We had a delicious anniversary dinner. We were treated royally, from the moment we arrived when someone greeted us and parked our car for us, to all the people who greeted us inside and who served us. The venison was terrific, and my husband loved the steak tartar. Lobster bisque was superb.
We were seated in the back room which is not nearly as nice as the main barn. There was a table of 8 next to us that were so loud we had trouble holding a conversation. No one seemed to care about it. Our waiter did not come back to see if we wanted coffee until we asked someone to get him after waiting a very long time. The coffee was lukewarm and a very disappointing end to our dinner. We love the White Barn Inn and we will go back but this experience was not up to their normal standards.
My husband and I enjoyed a memorable evening. From first taste to last, our meals and drinks were exceptional. Thank you for the creativity, hard work, and quality of the menu. Will definitely return.
The White Barn is a unique rustic style building yet upon entering you are placed in an elegant atmosphere.
The food is creative and delicious. The service was impeccable with the most attentive staff. Peter our server was especially helpful and made sure our dining experience was perfect.
The Bouvier artefacts on each table really added to the decor.
My husband and I had Thanksgiving dinner at the White Barn Inn restaurant. All I can say is that everything was truly wonderful! The service, the food, the ambiance were all something to appreciate. I am a tried and true “foodie” and my husband is a somewhat picky “meat and potatoes” kind of man. We were both extremely pleased and delighted with our meal. We plan on coming back to The White Barn Inn, not only to eat, but to stay at the inn!
Very nice. Festive atmosphere for Thanksgiving dinner.
The White Barn maintains its outstanding high quality reputation, particularly its cuisine and patron-centered service.
The White Barn Inn continues to produce an evening that not just dinner, but an event. Everything is meticulously crafted and carefully prepared. The price can be a little daunting, but there's no other restaurant in the area that provides an evening such as the White Barn Inn.
We had a beautiful evening starting when we just pulled in. Very romantic atmosphere, and impeccable service. Can’t wait to dine there again.
My favorite restaurant EVER - Hands down. Great food, friendly service, impeccable in every way. This was our third trip from NYC to stay and dine at the White Barn Inn. There is so little they could do to improve this place. I wish we could move in but we’d be as big as two houses.
Just a fantastic restaurant with the most attentive and wonderful wait staff.
We loved The White Barn Inn. The decor is amazing with the fall props lighted through the nice large window. It was an honor that the American flag was hung.
I did think &125 pp is quite pricey and several exchanges or add ones were at a price. For 2, our bill was $423. That’s high, yet it was a lovely evening.
Our waiter and all the staff were gracious and friendly.
This was one of the best dining experiences ever. The place is beautiful, the staff is professional and friendly and helpful, the ambiance is incredible, and the dinner was one for the books.
Definitely one of a kind, including the price, but worth it...
One of my parent’s favorite restaurants in ME. The staff were friendly and extremely attentive. Much of the food is delicious. I would not recommend it as a destination for vegetarians. Although they kindly offered an alternative vegetable melange for the main course, for the price, vegetarians would be better served elsewhere.
