White Barn Inn

While very expensive, the White Barn main dining room offers terrific food and a wonderful experience. For anyone who enjoys good food and the occasional pampering, the White Barn is a "must" for any special occasion.
Peter was so fantastic. Best meal we have had in a very long time. Highly recommend.
Excellent as always!
Amazing! Everything was amazing. We will be back.
It was wonderful - it’s always wonderful at the White Barn Inn. We go every 4th of July.
Overall the meal was well executed with excellent service.
We love the White Barn, have to visit every trip we make to Maine. The staff is so perfect, very attentive and knowledgeable. The food is beyond incredible. We had the Chef's Indulgence Menu this visit. It was fun to not pick our menu and have so many little plates of deliciousness. I highly recommend this option. The little touches that the White Barn has make it so much more special. They have a huge picture window filled with flowers, oil lights on the tables and so much character in the room with all the original wood. Hands down this is perfect dining.
This restaurant is what dining should be. Every detail is met
My wife and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary at the White Barn Inn. This was our third time in six years. To go to the White Barn Inn is a dining experience, but this time it was just okay.
For starters, they placed us in the middle of the room as opposed to a table along the wall, which is more intimate and romantic. I brought this to the host's attention and she was more than happy to move us to an open table along the wall.
As always, we went with the six-course tasting menu because we like trying new things. A couple of the dishes were not to our liking, but that is not the chef's fault as we picked the tasting menu. In the past, we had the choice between two dishes for each of the six courses, which we preferred as you could avoid things you knew you absolutely were not going to like.
All the waiters were nice, but our main waiter―and I don't mean to be mean―lacked personality and was stiff. He did not make us feel welcome or walk us through the dishes in a way that made us excited or comfortable, which we enjoyed on previous occasions. He also didn't ask us if we would like him to freshen our drinks, which required me to ask him. Perhaps they were short staffed that night, I don't know.
For us, if we were to go back again, we would probably stay away from the tasting menu and go with what we know we are going to like. We would also make sure to ask for a table along the wall or at least a table not in the middle of the room. The waiter thing is tougher as that is something I cannot control nor do I go often enough to ask for someone in particular.
I very much enjoyed the food here, and the service at the table was very prompt. Our waiter was very professional and the entire dining experience was the best my date and I have ever had.
However, I rate the service and overall experience as poor because I entrusted the restaurant staff with my keys while they valet parked my vehicle. After I returned home from dining, I realized they had lost my car key (my key fob is passive entry - you keep the key on your person and push a button to start the car. The missing physical key is used to enter it when the fob battery dies or if it malfunctions, gets wet, etc). I called the restaurant the next morning, and they took my information down. I was told they would call me when the valet staff arrived at 3:00 and could be spoken to.
I never received the phone call, and I attempted to call them that evening, but they did not answer and the voice mailbox was full. As of now I still have not heard from them.
I had such high expectations from the restaurant but they aren't able to properly look after a vehicle without losing the keys. Dining there was a great experience, but I would not return to a restaurant who not only loses my car key, but won't even follow up with me to let me know if they've even made an attempt to locate it.
Incredible from beginning to the end. Food was well balanced and delicious. Assistant servers could use some training. All in all, wonderful!
My husband and I spent our first week end together dining and staying at the White Barn Inn in May of 2009. It was exquisite. Exceptional service, attentive waitpersons and amazing cuisine. We have made it a point to dine here at least once a year. It is hands down our favorite restaurant. 3 years to the day from the day we met we got married on May 12, 2012. We dined there for our 6th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday. It was fantastic as always. We cannot wait to come back!
Wow. Thank you for a great dining experience.
Been eating here for over 30 years. This place has always set the bar for fine dining. The meal is an event. It’s not necessarily any one thing but makes for a wonderful and unforgettable night.
If you like cheese - make sure you do the cheese course with desert. It’s worth the extra couple of bucks. Can’t wait to go again!
Ambience and service great. I’m sorry but food was not up to par. Scallops terribly over cooked and app of beef tartar not much beef and frisée with no dressing. Staff should know which cauliflower is being served menu description on menu ( romanesco) reg cauliflower was served. As for lobster over pasta so much butter and my endive crab salad there was no crab. We were so disappointed. Sorry!
Consistently the BEST dining experience. Food is amazing and the service is outstanding . Love dining here. Staff is very friendly and helpful . It’s the best. Thank you !
This very beautiful room would be an ideal environment for a top-notch restaurant, and to a certain extent it is. The two sticking points are the cost of dining here - it is easy to rack up a $200 per-person bill here without much effort - and a lack of consistent excellence across the menu. I wish I could say that all the food merits this cost, but sadly, it doesn't. A lobster appetizer was compromised by very spicy hot peppers, effectively eliminating any taste of the crustacean. A pork roulade was dry and not sufficiently sauced. Then again, a lobster bisque and a poached lobster dish entree were spot-on, among the best we've had. The service is wholly professional, and we appreciated the checking in of the staff while we dined to see if we were pleased. An extraordinary wine list will please oenophiles. In short, this visit was a mixed - and very expensive - experience for us.
Great food and great service. Will definitely return.
We celebrated New Years Day and the ambiance was perfect. Close group of friends really enjoyed our time together at White Barn Inn. The service was impeccable, friendly staff, beautiful presentation and outstanding taste.
What a disappointment. Had heard great things about this restaurant for years. What we found out is that the ownership has changed and with that came a decline in the quality. Everything was okay -- not what you expect for the price. It seemed the they were going through the motions of being a fine dining fixed price establishment -- beware, it is not the same White Barn Inn of it's past.
There are not enough words to describe how much we loved our meal at the WBI- everyone made us feel so special and EVERY (without exception) single course was off the charts. So much love to the inn and its staff- such a special place!!!
Fifth year celebrating a birthday w friends. The food, wine and service were outstanding for both dinner and breakfast. Lobster for dinner and w eggs Benedict for breakfast after a restful stay in Loon Cottage at Grace White Barn Inn.
Fine dining at its best. Superb presentation of the most delicious food choices. Service from the staff was excellent . Soothing piano was a wonderful addition. Outstanding evening celebrating our anniversary.
We went to the White Barn Inn Restaurant to celebrate a special occasion (birthday). Everyone that we know who has eaten there has raved about the food, so naturally we went in with high expectations. Unfortunately, we did not have a memorable meal and were not "wowed' by the food at all. This restaurant, in our opinion, is more about presentation of dishes then flavor and smart combinations. There were also some issues with our meal - cold soup, overcooked duck, lack of inventory for wine bottles, too much salt and butter on food, etc). We're bummed that the food and "stuffy" vibe couldn't be avoided. However, the romantic and cozy ambiance (decor, lighting, piano music) and great service from our waiter gets five stars. Great place to celebrate an occasion, but expect to drop several hundred dollars to dine here and leave disappointed.
It is a great restaurant very romantic atmosphere great food
The White Barn Inn was fantastic. We have always wanted to go there, and we went for my birthday. We stayed at the Inn as well. The service is outstanding. The atmosphere is great, and the food is fantastic! Can't wait to go again.
The food is always amazing at the White Barn Inn. It is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.
This is truly a world class restaurant. Everything... valet service.... serving staff... ambience and of course the food and drink... is superb. Well worth the cost and the effort to get a reservation. It really is that good.
Probably the best meal I’ve had in years. If you’re in the area you must stop at the White Barn Inn for an amazing dining experience.
The ambiance and service were outstanding, but the food was not particularly memorable and at times even pretty bad.
Given the hype and price we expected at least a pretty good meal but what we got was poorly seasoned and nothing special.
We were on holiday and happy to have an opportunity to go to a R&C restaurant. The experience was fabulous and the wine pairings superb!
As always the White Barn staff, and food were amazing
NOT FOR FOODIES
Bad sign number one - valet parking. Bad sign number two - poor bread. Bad signs 3 and so on - Tasting menu, the black garlic fritter (explained as black truffle when served) could have been anything, as the melted Parmesan overwhelmed everything else. The beef consommé was insipid. The beef was cooked past submission and the vegetable was flavorless. The sweetbreads were overcooked and underseasoned. The rhubarb flower pot featured an inedible garnish, but was a change of pace, as it accomplished its purpose of refreshing the palate. The lamb was unevenly cooked, some at perfect temp, others overdone, and inconsistently crusted. The cheeses were all high quality, and the cart was handled appropriately. The soufflé was adequate but the apricot flavor was lost in the chocolate sauce. The petit fours were numerous, but did not make an impression, the gelee was the best of the lot.
Service was good, but not up to premier restaurant standards. When a tasting menu lacks flavor, it fails. Very bad value for money on the food side.
Wonderful dinner, and exceptional service. Highly recommended and looking forward to experiencing this hidden jewel again.
Prix Fixe Menu, Impeccable Service, Outstanding Food, Special Occasion Destination. Highly Recommend for Foodies
Our annual visit to White Barn In was outstanding as always. As the menu changes weekly, it doesn't make sense to address individual dishes. The portions are small, but they are packed with complexity and layers of flavor. The extra tastes throughout the meal always leave me satisfied. Service is impeccable. There is an extensive wine list and a good selection of craft beers, including several from Maine Beer Company. Ask for the bar menu for some interesting signature cocktails.
Unbeatable for service, ambiance and dinner quality. A must try for anyone looking for a romantic, quiet evening.
