They were shirt staffed. They did not recognize our Anniversary that i noted on the reservation. Otherwise it was excellent.
My wife and I go to Whispers for special occasions like our anniversary or Valentine's Day. The food is always good and the service is excellent.
Very nice restaurant - just high noise level making it difficult to hear
Completely over priced and over rated.
They tossed out a tiny rock hard dried out bun as a bread service when we first sat down, which literally tasted cardboard. We moved on to an
Arugula salad that looked like it was picked out of garbage can and thrown on a plate $18.
Tomato salad which was also a wreck served warm ughhh $19.
The chefs specialty a shrimp and pasta dish was a disaster it looked they literally took garage and a few shrimp and put it on plate with pesto …so bad!! $48!!
Strip steak Lou set price of over cooked meat $49.
The only saving grace was it it was byob so we got out of there for a mere $160!!
Anybody who says this is a good restaurant really needs to rethink what they’re idea of good food .
There are so many other options.
I only went there out of guilt after having had made the reservation. I write this review as a warning so that others don’t make the same mistake I did.
Very noisy. Pricey for food quality. Crab cakes were mushy. I expected more lump crab and received more pasty inside and not very crisp on outside. Fish special was overdone and close to dry.
Always a pleasurable experience at Whispers. It’s been one of our favorites for many years.
Requested a quiet table; was placed very close to a table of ten - loud. On the other close side was a loud table of four. Waitress couldn’t even fit between tables to serve properly.
Lobster appetizer was so so; salads were good and main course looked pretty but the lobster was over cooked and bland. Would not go back since prices are high.
Whispers has been our "go to" restaurant for any celebration for more than 10 years. This is the second time dinning at Whispers since it re-opened. Sad to say, it is not the same Whispers. The level of service is not up to past standards. I realize it is difficult to get help, but the service in the past was one of the outstanding features of the experience. The offering of a amuse-bouche has stopped. This was another of Whispers "special" aspect of dinning. The food, which has increased greatly in price, has lost its flare. My pork chop was over cooked and my wife's vegetables were VERY undercooked. The bread, which was once a warm amazing feature has been replaced with "pop and serve" biscuits. Sad. It is still a good restaurant, but it is no longer great!
Great place. Best high end restaurant at the Jersey shore.
We sat in the smaller room, not main dining room and it was perfect.
Terrible service with catering hall food. Loud room and disengaged servers. Uber overpriced for an average dining experience. Try Larimar where service and food are superb and priced properly. Very disappointing evening!!
One of the best meals my wife and I have had this year. I had the filet mignon, she had lobster. Nice location and setting. This is a BYOB. Varied menue, a bit expensive but worth every cent.
Too crowded and to loud
Excellent food and service
One of Spring Lake’s dining gems! Food and service has been consistently good for many years. My husband began with the NJ heirloom tomatoes & fresh mozzarella. He said it was one of the best he’s had out and admired the presentation in the rectangle plate. Something he will copy presentations when having guests over. He chose the grilled shrimp dinner with vegetables and I the lamb dinner. Both entrees were outstanding and equally matched by the service of Ashley. Love that it’s a BYOB and will return again soon.
Room was very loud. Service was excellent. Asked for my $50 filet medium rare…was prepared medium well, however the meat quality was very good. Potato side ( patty) was not good.
Side veggie carrots uncooked.
We were staying in the hotel attached to the restaurant, and had dinner there the last evening of our stay. We were escorted to our table in a quiet, eleganty appointment room. Service was efficient and friendly, starting with a rundown of the daily specials to the presentation of the check. The food was excellent and fully met our expectations. We will definitely enjoy dinner there during our next stay.
First of all the prices on the internet do not reflect the actual prices. Very crowded dining room and seated near a table of 7 which was so loud that numerous people were startled by their constant chatter and laughter. Very very long wait for dinner, over 1 hour from ordering our food until delivery. Wait staff seemed very stressed or overworked but definitely not welcoming. My dinner was good but husband had the New York strip, which was very tough and his vegetables were not cooked. Glass of iced tea was $8. This was our second time there and I can honestly say that we will not be coming back, there are too many restaurants that are worthy of business.
We have eaten at Whispers many times but the last two times feel as though it wasn't as good. Certainly it is still lovely but the food isn't quite as yummy as it use to be.
Our special evening (Anniversary) was spoiled with the very loud over talking by guests who were very rude by almost shouting across their tables. This was our 2nd time at Whispers and the 1st time was excellent, quiet was the reason why we returned. Because the noise was not addressed by anyone on the staff this was our final trip to Whispers. To bad because we really enjoyed it there. ☹️
The restaurant was so loud we could not hold a conversation and service was very slow. Food was outstanding.
Overall, we were very pleased with our dining experience. The appetizers and entrees were truly outstanding, although it was a bit disappointing to see the price per entree at $6 more than the price listed on the website menu. The dessert we had (pecan tart) was only fair, and not up to the expectations set by the rest of the meal. The price for iced tea ($8) was ridiculous. Our waitress was attentive and able to answer our questions. An extra roll would have been appreciated.
Service was impeccable and I love being in a restaurant that is not noisy. Fabulous appetizer of Jersey tomatoes. Specials were good and overall a nice evening.
Absolutely outstanding food! A little pricey, but worth it. We highly recommend! BYOB.
The ambiance is Old Spring Lake, the service is attentive but not intrusive, and the food is delicious and its presentation is pleasing. You can't go wrong for a nice evening at leisure with good friends or something a bit more intimate.
This Spring Lake gem never disappoints. The food is perfectly prepared with a very nice selection for both seafood and meat lovers. The service is warm, friendly and delivered by a well trained staff.
This restaurant is a BYOB so be sure you bring a nice wine to pair with delicious food if you are so inclined.
This was once my favorite restaurant in NJ. If you are still concerned about COVID, don't go there. They pack you in! The food was only slightly above average & the service was good!
Food is delicious. Nice old America place. Love it
I have eaten many times over the years at Whispers. It is always a lovely experience and always a night to look forward to. The food is high quality and perfectly prepared. The atmosphere is calm and especially enjoyable for the fact that you can actually hold a conversation while dining. No intrusive crazy music! Will definately be back.
Our yearly mother/daughter trip to Spring Lake, New Jersey wouldn’t be complete without an excellent dinner at Whispers! It has delicious food and superb service. Looking forward to our next visit!
A special place in Spring Lake
Whispers never disappoints! We go there every time we come to Spring Lake, NJ!
Whispers changed & we have gone there many times through the years our recent visit was disappointing compared to previous visits.
Traditional and heavy food menu. Packed in tables.
Excellent server. Inhospitable manager.
Return for a second time - just as we remembered - food was outstanding but a little pricey for the veal chop special but would return
Red snapper was overcooked, dry and sauce was mediocre. Dining room needs a facelift - tired and dark. Tables are too close together - hard to walk between tables and noise level is too high. Service was very friendly and attentive.
Nicky was our server. She was terrific. Food outstanding.
Really like the place.
