Whiskey Cake - San Antonio
The large central bar pays homage to great whiskeys with an expansive list of variations. A menu of cocktails features creative concoctions of local spirits with fresh ingredients, evocative of beverages served at a pre-prohibition bar experience.
The contemporary design of reclaimed architectural elements creates an environment that is comfortable and inviting, an ideal spot for dinner after a long workday or a lazy brunch on the weekends.
Great early dinner!
It was delicious, as always. Husband and I usually split a whiskey cake for dessert but we decided to each get one. Felt like gluttons after....probably because we had appetizers, a salad, and dinner beforehand. Maybe skip one of those if you want your own dessert 😂
Had a large group - made reservation sat at a table where we with where we share
Great experience as always! We love Whiskey Cake for brunch.
Food and drinks were great. We would have stayed for after dinner drinks but our server was hard to track down the whole night. If we could have received better service we would have probably stayed for much longer.
Retirement lunch with close family
Yes my second visit and exceptional service and manager visited our table. Very impressive and a pleasant surprise.
Server was fabulous!
Food was decent but service was EXTREMELY slow. It took forever to receive our food. When the food finally came, we had no spoons to eat our soup with and no server in sight. I got up and tracked some one down. Our server struggled to find a salt shaker. Said there was only 4-5 in the restaurant. Very disappointing experience.
We had a large group with a reservation. They sat us early in a nice cozy corner in back of the restaurant, which had huge windows with great light. We had 2 kids and they had a coloring book menu for them, which kept them busy. The food was awesome. We even got someone to eat a deviled egg and like it.
Great place, food and drink! Great customer service.
I appreciate you saying that! We work hard on our customer service! Come try many of those same cocktails during our social hour 3-6 and 9-11 Monday through Friday!
Our first visit was for my husband’s birthday. Our server, Amber, was wonderful-welcoming, attentive. Adrian, manager, came by to check on us, and when he learned it was my husband‘s birthday, he sent over complementary whiskey cake. An unexpected kindness. We had the fried green tomatoes, duck breast, orzo, 1/2 chicken, grits, and of course the whiskey cake. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The pace of the service was well-timed. We added a couple of cocktails that were great as well. The whiskey cake was so wonderful. The cake was light and moist while the whiskey sauce was rich. I liked that they served the whipped cream in a bowl on the side. The only small setback was the noise level; we were able to converse, just had to speak up. Overall a great evening: it won’t be our last visit.
Amber has been an asset since she started working here. We love hosting folks having a great time. Come try our brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 9-3!
Great food and drinks!
Love coming here. Service was average and typically the food is on point.
Food, drinks, and our waiter (I believe his name was Allen) were exceptional! My only gripe was that I waited almost another half hour to be seated even though I had made a reservation earlier in the week.
Upon arrival there were three hostesses in the front and I informed one of them that I had a reservation at 7pm. I gave them my name and they replied that they would check me in and that I would be seated shortly. Nearly 30 mins passed and about 5 other dinner parties were seated before us. I assumed they might have had reservations as well so I asked the hostess if she knew how much longer it would be? She kindly asked my name again and said she would get me seated up next.
About 5 mins after being seated I received a confirmation email on my phone that I was checked in for my reservation and then a few moments later that my reservation had been cancelled. I’m not sure where the confusion may have occurred, just thought this was something that need to be pointed out.
We had such a wonderful dinner at Whiskey Cake and Thomas, our server, was the best!
The service is great! Could not ask for better service! The menu is too limited. Suggest you check the menu before you go. It changes.
LagoE, thanks for the stars and the great service review! We work really hard to hire and keep some of the best in town. Thank you so much!
Awesome! Like always!
It was a great experience! Our waiter was great and very knowledgeable about the menu items. We appreciated the natural/organic taste of the food. Our only regret is we did not ask if the duck wing sauce was sold by the bottle.
I beeping love Whiskey Cake. Their food is so inventive without losing the classic flavors.
Tucker, I bleeping love this review! Thank you so much for the stars and for visiting our place.
I loved my first experience! I can’t wait to go back. My server was amazing and we got so much food for $11!
KDubb, I'm glad you found the value and loved the experience. Thank you so much for the great review.
The Bloody Mary’s are the best!
BreezyP, if you come in for brunch and have a "Build Your Own" then you can take all the credit! Thanks for the Great review!
...And we’re back! Delicious food and great service.
Thanks for the great review! It's great to have y'all back in!
Sabrina has been great. Service was friendly and great as always.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it and thank you for calling out one of our best servers, Sabrina! She will be thrilled that you loved the experience so much!
Best Turkey Burger I’ve ever had
You're right, its the best turkey burger I've ever had as well! Thanks for the great review!
Absolutely amazing. While the drinks didn't pack a punch, they were fabulous. The local board is a must try. I love the farm to table commitment.
I'm so glad you dug the place JohannaD. Farm to table is an important part of our DNA and I'm flattered that you appreciate it.
Great staff, management stopped by and talked with us. Always a great time there.
Thank you so much , I'm glad you loved it and that my managers knocked it out of the park!
It was ok. It was just ok
Our server was unfocused and was more into telling his life story at the table beside us than checking on us. Our apps and dinner were delivered within seconds of each other... when I asked what the non alcoholic options were his response was “do you know where you are?”..... I asked for coke and he said “not even wine?” I didn’t want to inform him that I do not drink for health reasons. I asked for the eggs over hard on my chicken and waffle to which he replied “um no”. But then said he would do it. The eggs came out over easy. When he asked how the food was 15 minutes after it had been delivered I let him know that the eggs came out incorrectly. His was response was “look, sorry”. No offer to fix, did not get a manager involved. He offered to get me another soda, never brought it. It took over 20 minutes to get the check. I was so ready to leave at that point that when a floor lead/manager in a pineapple shirt came by to ask us how we were enjoying the evening (he did not make eye contact) so I said “Fine” so as to allow us to leave without causing a disruption in service for his other tables. Honestly, I felt like he went and smoked something towards the end of our meal as he moved even slower and more forgetful than before. Will not be returning.
I just want to start by saying we can not apologize enough about the poor dining experience you received during your visit on Wednesday. Please know that at Whiskey Cake we value all guest feedback. We have clearly missed the mark on your visit. Behavior from a service staff member of this caliber is not conducive to our culture and core values. I would really like to find out more about your visit with us. I am sending a private message for your response. Thank You.
It was busy so the service was not on point. Our waiter rarely checked on us and our food took forever and we were missing some items in the plates. Food was really good though even if it took long . The ambiance was great and the place amazing
First time here - went for breakfast. Love the look of the place and our server was very attentive. Food was ok. Had the Ham Benedict. I would have preferred a toasted english muffin on the bottom - untoasted just isn’t good. The chili sauce was a bit too spicy for breakfast. I did not like that you can only get french press coffee. We ended up paying $20 for the 3 of us to have coffee because each pot had 1.5 cups and there were no free refills. I won’t go back for breakfast, but we may try for lunch or dinner.
Local cuisine sourced local ingredients shines at Whiskey Cakes. Took my parents for a birthday and they loved it.
Food was fantastic as always. Service was decent, little slow getting our drinks out. Other then that service was great.
Delicious food! Great service and we loved the atmosphere.
Such incredibly slow service for mediocre food. Only items I'd recommend are the goat cheese fondue appetizer and the bloody mary bar. Come for appetizers and drinks, otherwise, skip.
Great service and delicious food and drinks and dessert was amazing so definitely coming back again
The table was very uncomfortable. They sat us at a bar top table. My mom and I are both 5 feet tall. Our feet could not touch the bar of the bar stool or the bar near the floor. If I would had known the seating arrangements. I would had requested a regular highth seating table. The food was terrific! The service was great.
There was a bit of a wait for the appetizers that wasn't typical but it was unusually busy for an early Saturday evening. Our waiter was amazing and Whiskey Cake made it more than right for us. This slight hiccup isn't enough to deter us as we were enjoying our company and downtime. We'll continue coming back for sure.
An amazing place with service.
Received appetizers before drink order. The restaurant was very hot. Food was okay. Food was not hot just warm. French Fries were terrible and to be served bad French Fries!
