Whiskey Cake - San Antonio
The large central bar pays homage to great whiskeys with an expansive list of variations. A menu of cocktails features creative concoctions of local spirits with fresh ingredients, evocative of beverages served at a pre-prohibition bar experience.
The contemporary design of reclaimed architectural elements creates an environment that is comfortable and inviting, an ideal spot for dinner after a long workday or a lazy brunch on the weekends.
Dinner: Monday - Thursday: 4:00pm - 11:00pm, Friday - Saturday: 4:00pm - 12:00am, Sunday: 4:00pm - 10:00pm
Brunch: Saturday - Sunday: 9:00am - 4:00pm
Nice atmosphere, upper level so I was able to see the scenery, food was just enough.
Place has lost its shine. Used to be one of our favorite brunch spots, but last two visits have fallen flat. Waited a while just to be told that the "chef" didn't have the ingredients for the stew my husband ordered. I guess they make stew one bowl at a time. My husband then ordered the short rib hash. An $18 entree...not worth it. When our food was finally brought out, my dish was cold and I asked for it to be warmed up. They brought me out a whole new plate, again, it was cold.
On a positive note, the manager came by and was adequately concerned about our experience. She comp'd our plates and offered us a whiskey cake. Also, our server was sweet and apologetic about the whole thing.
This place has a lot of good things going for it: ambience, good menu, nice bar, but somehow it's falling short. Taking from our last two visits, the service and quality of the food just doesn't parallel prices.
We received great service and the food was delicious.
The food would get 5 stars but the entrees were a little too salty. Very good though, the whiskey cake is a must try, of course!
Whiskey Cake is an essential place to hit in San Antonio. The food is always delicious, they keep the menu fresh, and the service is outstanding. Great for brunch on the weekends!
Took my parents there for the first time for dinner. (My parents all both seasoned national/international diners). The service was fine - the charcuterie board and goat cheese appetizers were outstanding hence the 3 stars. The redfish was overdone, the duck way too rare (it was RAW in the center), and the tomato soup very salty. The Brussel sprouts and chips were tasty. We’ve been going to Whiskey Cake since they opened and we will not be taking my parents back.
I’ve been before for dinner and the food was delicious and service was great. This last time I went for brunch, the Bloody Mary bar was fun and offered many varieties to make it how ever you wanted and the brunch menu had plenty of options for any palette. I recommend the French Toast “Monte Cristo.
As usual, great service and great food. Would highly recommend!
Let me start by saying we love Whiskey Cake, the food has always been amazing, from the way it’s sourced to the way it’s prepared! This last visit, Mabel the hostess was so kind to get us the table we requested and made the experience even better, putting us towards the back so we could hear each other & talk a bit easier since it was a busy day at WC, so thanks Mabel!
Food was absolutely incredible. We had goat cheese fondue—amazing. I had the Redfish, and it was absolutely some of the best fish I have ever had. My wife had the beef short rib with spaghetti squash, and she loved it. I tried a bite, and it had incredible flavor. But, the finishing touch, was the whiskey cake dessert. Just incredible! Great chocolate cake soaked in a whiskey caramel sauce with Pecans and fresh sweetened whip cream.
Service was incredible. I wish I could remember our waitress’ name. She was great.
Hostesses weren't very friendly and didnt give us much of a heads up when we had to wait for our reserved seating (25 minutes). Server acted very disinterested in serving us. He would stare into a distance when talking to us. He was much more animated and engaged with the couple next to our table. It took about 30 minutes to get our first drink. Overall, very disappointing. I liked the food, but the employees were meh.
The volume of the music was way too loud to be able to have a conversation.
High top seating was a little awkward. We had a party of 8 and then there was a couple having a date on the end of our table. Other than that, food was good and service was good. Whiskey Cake dessert is amazing!
Great service and fun atmosphere. Food and drinks are always excellent
Outstanding food and service
Great place for a girlfriend luncheon
Food was fantastic as always. Our waiter, Casey, Did a great job. Timely delivery of food off a bi. Overall it was great!
Great food and perfect atmosphere for get togethers!
Wonderful food and service.
This was a recommendation from a friend and it was so worth it! We were very impressed. From the local ingredients, beer selection, amazing ambiance, recycled items that were made useful. So unique and that cake was the best cake we have ever had. We are considering flying back down from OH for our bdays just to eat at Whiskey Cake again! 5+ stars!
The switch of the day Reuben sandwich was absolutely delicious. One of the best I have ever eaten! Whiskey Cake was scrumptious as usual! Fried Green tomatoes are so yummy😋Can’t wait to go again.
We love this place but was very disappointed that the beat items on the menu. Pork belly ramen was eliminated. I was craving it so much and had to settle on something else. Why take a good thing and remove it ?
Great food and drinks! High table chairs are very uncomfortable and wobbly. Lightning is a little too dim, and on a personal note - I like water with ice!!
Service was slow....very loud..more like a sports bar feel
Great food. Excellent service. Always enjoy going
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very comfortable.
The food and drinks are phenomenal. Fresh, farm to table dishes that are great. The deviled eggs are wonderful and their signature Whiskey Cake is amazing!!!
Excellence from beginning to end. Service, food, and ambiance are top notch. The duck breast was exquisite, the goat cheese fondue was so creamy and flavorful. The namesake dessert was delicious. What an amazing dining experience! We left star struck and are already planning our next visit.
I first came here Nov 9, with a group of work colleagues following a volunteer event (at the San Antonio Food Bank, which I highly recommend everyone do!).
The event organizer ordered a bunch of appetizers, I had the red fish, whiskey Cake for dessert. Good times, service was excellent. Only thing I could think about was coming back with my family.
However when I went back with my wife for a date to celebrate (being sans kids for a few days) and the start of our wedding anniversary month the service was pretty bad.
We started with a cocktail and appetizer (fried green tomatoes), which was the bomb. She had the turkey burger I had the double burger— excellent.
As the night went on I noticed the server was less than attentive but it wasn’t until my wife said something that it really weighed on my mind and started to annoy me. Especially as we were neglected long enough to noticed how personable all the other wait staff were with their tables.
I should have addressed it right away. Perhaps he was having a bad day, to which I can relate... but I don’t think that i should have to spend good money only to have to feel like I’m burdening a waiter, especially on the rare date night.
In the end I still tipped 15 percent because I’m not a total a$. In the end my girl raved, “OMG, the food was so great, too bad our server was a jerk to us.” Ugh shot through the heart. Date FAIL.
I should ha e addressed it right away.
We were seated quickly and the waitress was very accommodating. Food was amazing and I couldn’t remember why I had waited so long before going back. I couldn’t resist the whiskey cake either. Will definitely be returning here.
My go-to place for farm-to-table and handcrafted cocktails. John the manager is knowledgeable about whiskey, and Andrew the bartender could always whip up something adventurous..
Fantastic evening! Servers accommodated us when we had a last-minute addition to our party.
Our server was super attentive and sweet! Always love going to whiskey cake.
First time to eat here and we can’t wait to go back again! Atmosphere was one of a kind and the menu was unlike any other restaurant we’ve been to. We became instant fans of this place!
Love everything about this place except the limited menu. And the food that was great to have all the time, like the ramen, they have taken off the menu. Won’t keep me from coming back but would love to see a little more....
It was an amazing brunch menu! We can’t wait to go back! Best coffee! EVER!
Really enjoyed Whiskey Cake. Went with some girlfriends and sampled some of the handcrafted beverages and ate some unique plates. So fun and majorly delicious!
Great food and service on a consistent basis. I love the Farm to table concept. Everything is always fresh and delicious.
Excellent overall, great place to spend a special evening.
