Whiskey Cake - San Antonio
The large central bar pays homage to great whiskeys with an expansive list of variations. A menu of cocktails features creative concoctions of local spirits with fresh ingredients, evocative of beverages served at a pre-prohibition bar experience.
The contemporary design of reclaimed architectural elements creates an environment that is comfortable and inviting, an ideal spot for dinner after a long workday or a lazy brunch on the weekends.
Food was great but the server was very slow. You definitely need reservations for brunch on a Sunday.
We have been to Whiskey Cake on multiple prior occasions, but only for lunch and dinner. Have never went for brunch. Will likely never go back for brunch.
Although waitservice was prompt and attentive, the kitchen was agonizingly slow. Although the restaurant was crowded and near capacity, it took the kitchen 40 minutes to get our entrées out. The brunch items orders were mediocre in taste and presentation.
Perhaps if the waitstaff knew the wait time for food they would’ve suggested an appetizer or brought out something without asking. After 30 minutes we asked what was taking so long and the waitress said her manager would only approve a small chip and dip appetizer. Didn’t seem like much to offer for a long wait for food. Would’ve been nicer if they offered refills on juice drinks or even an alcoholic beverage.
Come on Whiskey Cake, you can do better than this!
The service was very slow. So bad that the manager came by to check on us. He checked and then it was still 1/2 hour longer wait. No offer of apology or compensation. Lousy experience .
Great atmosphere and great food and drinks!
Drinks and food were great. We waited an hr and half for the main dish. Kept reminding the waiter about our appetizers and drinks. Waiter seemed like he didn’t want to be at work. Been at the location several times and it has been awesome. This current visit was horrible. My experience took three hrs. The manager did his best to make us happy but in reality the damage was done.
The food and service are always top notch.
Enjoyed the farm to fork experience
This was a fantastic experience.
The place is wonderful the food is excellent and the service is amazing.
This created a very relaxed atmosphere for conversation.
Joined a friend for dinner. Appetizers were delicious (deviled eggs and goat cheese dip), dinner amazing (salmon and red fish), and dessert to die for (whisky cake, of course). Will go back
Great food and service. Best way to impress out of town business folks Is with food and whiskey cake delivered. Awesome job!
Brunch is always delicious!
While the food, as always, was great, it seems that every time we book a reservation at this location, we never are seated right away. It always seems to be almost 10 minutes after the reservation time that we are seated. Even if there are tons of open tables.
We went for Brunch and the food was delicious!!! I liked their spin on the classics. You have to try the Whiskey Cake, it is to die for!!!
Our mother’s were friends since junior high school. My friend is six months older than me and we have been friends since I was born. 62 years of friendship.
We had an excellent Brunch here. Our first visit but certainly not our last! The pork brisket steak on the Pork, Egg and Grits was the best I’ve ever had. My wife had the Farmhouse Ham Benedict which was also great. Can’t wait to come back for happy hour during the week. Our server, Janice was excellent.
Great food, server didn’t speak loud enough and was not in tune with the pace of the table. Restaurant was loud!
Overall the food was great - my only complaint is despite making a reservation at 7:15 for 3 people, we were not seated until close to 8 pm. Good vegetarian options (limited) but not really any vegan options. Service was good, cocktails were excellent.
Everything was amazing we had a nice table off to the corner nice little view
Our waiter was not the best but everything else was amazing.
I had my birthday dinner here on a very busy Saturday night. As more people showed up the hostesses were so understanding and helpful!! They were patient and never acted as though I was a problem. The food was exceptional, the views from the windows were beautiful and I couldn’t forget the WHISKEY CAKE!! So delicious! We will definitely be celebrating here next year!!
Went to celebrate our daughters 21st birthday- what an impressive drink menu and dining choices! the whiskey cake for desert is fantastic but so were all the main dishes we got. Also had our 2 year old with us and the lobster chair in lieu of a high chair at the high top tables is perfect! Great kids menu options as well. Not overly large portion sizes so you could easily have an appetizer, salad and main dish.
Food was a bit salty.
Other than the hostess that were at the front not Being very pleasant everything else was amazing! The deviled eggs were the best I’ve ever tasted and our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive to our every need and all recommendations she made were spot on! We’ll be visiting again for sure.
Service was not bad but food was amazing. There was a little bit of a wait for the food but it was worth it.
So many tantalizing tastes! Love that they locally source and have creative menu ideas. Great place to hang out with friends or take a date.
The Thai bbq duck wings were so SPICY hot they weren’t edible.
Great time for my wife’s birthday.
Great food, service and atmosphere.
My wife and I had dinner with another couple, and it was great. We happened to be there on ladies night, so bottles of wine were half off. That was a bonus. The waitress was fantastic. She was on top of all of our needs. The food was prompt and delicious. The view and environment were fun and energetic but not too loud. Overall it was a great dinner. I'd totally do it again and recommend to others.
The restaurant is a beautiful environment! The waitress was extremely helpful in suggesting items for dinner and attentive! The food was delicious and I loved the Kale rotisserie chicken salad. The freshness of the food is important to me and it definitely was fresh! My friend had mussels and they were delicious! A must eat location!
Buen ambiente, buena comida y precios razonables
The food and wait staff is always excellent. However, the front service team needs improvement. We've experienced this on multiple occasions. One hostess in particular said she'd check me into the system and seat us promptly. There were no other people in the waiting area, she made us wait at least 5 min, my husband asked if we'd be seated soon and she said, "Yeah." She then proceeded to seat us to the furthest two seater in the whole restaurant by a cold window. I said "Thank you" and she said, "yeah." I said, "Happy New Year" and she said, "yeah." Her tone was flat and rude. My husband asked the other hostess if we could sit somewhere warmer nearer to the main areas and the second hostess accommodated.
This was a very disappointing experience as we have enjoyed Whiskey Cake in the past. When we arrived our update of reservation through Open Table had not been received but they were able to seat us. After 1 hour we still had only received our RyeFlight and NO food! The waitress walked by once but offered no help. We left cash on the table and walked out.
Great food, great service, good price and quick service!!!
Tasty and very well served. Overall a good dinnih option. Highly recommended.
We were there for New Years Eve. I ordered the Rotisserie Chicken and Kale salad. It was the first time I did not really care about something I tried at Whiskey Cake. It tasted like the chicken came straight from the refrigerator and it was days old. I will not order that again. The deviled eggs were delicious, so was the whiskey cake, as usual. It took a while to get our cake and coffee. The waitress was very sweet and did her best but it felt like the restaurant was understaffed. The rest of the party loved their food and the ambiance.
Great experience for New Year’s Eve dinner!
Great food and drink. They were pretty busy but we still got our dinner and made a movie. we had a nice conversation with the manager. Can't say as much for the movie Vice.
Food is great. Service is good. Wait staff/hostess is incompetent - made reservations for 2 at 6PM on Dec 30 and arrived 10 mins before, my significant other was asked to wait by the host. I was informed of this when I arrived and as I sat several parties walk in and are seated immediately. I then asked the host if there was currently a wait for my party size, response: no. So why was I asked to wait although I had a reservation and there was no wait to be immediately sat? Because “I was waiting for a better table”. Complete nonsense. This place has been great in all aspects every other time, so this is isolated and hopefully does not repeat.
Our waitress was very helpful and had great suggestions. The pork brisket was very tasty and paired well with grits. They seemed less than pleased with our OpenTable reservation though. I didn't really understand it.
