Wheatfields Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Unfortunately I can not recommend this restaurant. We had dinner there last night and while everyone was nice and friendly, the food was not good and the dining experience was less than average. We were seated on time and salads came out quickly (poor quality lettuce - big white chunks with wedge and light green for Caesar). The entrees came out shortly thereafter, with no warning, and then the (unfinished) salad plates and empty glasses were not cleared. Fish was undercooked and the attempt to cook it more thoroughly left it tasteless with rubbery pasta. I have to give credit to our waitress who tried to make it right and did remove the fish from our bill. For the price you pay, the entire dining experience and food quality needs to be better.
Wheatfields is always a pleasure. In addition to their famous fresh pasta dishes, other menu offerings include beef, pork, poultry, and seafood. Hillary was our charming and efficient waitress. She was full of beverage and food recommendations and suggestions, when prompted. The restaurant is bright and clean and a great people-watching spot from front tables. I even received a free dessert since we were out celebrating my birthday (I guess unwrapping presents at the table made it obvious). Thanks very much!
We are never disappointed here. The menu has enough variety, but is not overwhelming. The service is great, attentive, but respectful. The food is served promptly, but you never feel rushed, and the quality is excellent. Wheatfields atmosphere is managed well, a couple can feel comfortable seated near a large party and somehow you don't notice....
It was just ok. They were late to seat us and then wanted to put us at a horrible table right next to the hostess sandwiched between 2 curtains. I asked for a better table, which delayed our seating longer, but so worth it. Calamari was great but the pasta was lame. The linguini was fat and starchy and my husband had the wild mushroom pasta. The mushrooms were just white sliced mushrooms. His pasta had no real flavor. Waitress was nice. Overall I'm off their food
Wonderful food with a great separate gluten-free menu. Their gluten-free corn pasta was outstanding, as was the gluten-free bread they brought (as well as the regular non-gluten-free bread and pasta for my wife). The service is friendly, and the food was incredible. Highly recommended.
Took my oldest son and his girlfriend out with the rest of the family. Had a very pleasant time. Easy to have a conversation as the restaurant was fairly quiet on a cold winter evening downtown. Food was very good although not truly memorable, although I do enjoy the Spinach and Kale salad. Service was excellent without being intrusive. Overall a very peasant experience.
We dined at Wheatfields for our family Christmas Eve dinner. I booked about 3 weeks prior. I called in twice to add 2 additional dining guests and was told it wasn’t possible but the manager would call me to try to accommodate. I called back to check and was told someone would call me back. Nada. We arrive and they have our table and booking for a party of 7 so the 2 guests were added and no call was made to alert us. So we didn’t tell my husbands parents they could join us. Anyway, the service was great. The food not so much. Salads and calamari were the best part. The entrees were just underwhelming. I ordered linguine and clams and my pasta portion was smaller than my 6 year olds off the kids menu. 5 clams were included! 5 bites and the pasta was GONE. I’m a fitness fanatic and was really looking forward to my special splurge meal. My kids all told me moms version of each of their meals were so much better (chicken parm/Alfredo) one plus, they appreciate my cooking ;) it was Christmas Eve so we just took it with a grain of salt and now we know where not to dine on such a special day.
This is the very first time I have ever wanted to write a review. I was very disappointed with the small portions of the entrees in respect to what you are paying. I came to this restaurant hungry hoping for a good meal. $250 later, I left hungry and disappointed. This was the first time I have ever left an Italian restaurant hungry.
The atmosphere & service was fine and I left a generous tip. It wasn't the waiter's fault.
A great spot in Saratoga with great service, friendly staff, and good food. We started at the bar, where the service was great and the drinks well made. Then we had a window table, with more great service. When they learned it was our anniversary they provided a nice champagne toast for free.
A great place to eat!
We've eaten here a half-dozens times or so over the past several years but the latest visit is likely the last for the forseeable future. Once seated, on-time for our reservation, we sat for close to twenty minutes seemingly unnoticed by Wheatfields staff, even though the half -full dining room was otherwise well looked after. Huh? A lot of money for only ok food plus marginal service. Wish I could be more positive, but previous good memories of eating at Wheatfields are (hopefully) still intact...
We were a party of four with two children. We were seated in the bar area on a Thursday evening during happy hour. Although our food was very good, it was not a good place to sit a family during a very busy happy hour. The people attending the happy hour were loud, there was a lot of swearing...all which can be expected in a bar area, but children shouldn't have been seated right there. Unfortunately it was busy and we weren't able to be moved.
My husband and I went with my sister, brother-in-law, niece and her husband. The food was delicious. Very disappointed that we had to wait past our reservation time for the first time ever and I had chosen Wheatfields because they are always good with reservations.
First time at Wheatfields and will be the last, unfortunately. I wanted to like the restaurant because I know it is a Saratoga "staple," and although I liked the atomosphere, nothing else was very good. Our waiter was ok and basically attentive, but I felt that he was a bit annoyed that we needed to make some changes to the options on the menu (we are vegan). That was bearable. The food was not. We had a salad with chickpeas, lettuce and tomatoes. Parts of the lettuce were brown, the tomatoes were far from ripe and there was an ABUNDANCE of chickpeas. I couldn't find any dressing on the salad, although it did taste faintly of citrus and oil. I ordered linguini with pomodoro and veggies. The small amount of pasta given was completely overcooked, mushy really. The sauce tasted like it was from a jar, and the veggies were just terrible. My daughter ordered rice linguini with marina and veggies, and it is nice that they give several gluten free options on pasta, but when the dish arrived there was perhaps a few tablespoons of marina and no flavor at all.
The restaurant was basically empty (it was about 4:30 on a Saturday, so an "off" time) but I still felt rushed. Just an unpleasant experience and quite expensive for what we were served.
The service was very good. The drinks and salads were very good as was the Mac an Cheese that my dining partner had. However my gnocchi was so salty it could not be eaten and the chicken in it was over cooked . I declined to have a new meal and my server was apologetic, but the manager did not come over to see me or provide complimentary drinks etc for the bad experience. I will not be going back or recommending this establishment.
Date night turned into a shouting match not because my date and I were angry, but because the noise level in this restaurant is through the roof. First time customers, hostess was sullen, unpleasant. She placed us at a table at the end of the bar. Patrons and wait staff kept bumping into our table. I was in full view of an overflowing trash can behind the bar. Waitress was prompt and attentive, food was good but not hot out of the kitchen. Value, fair. Not the place for a quiet dinner.
Yummy food and a pleasant server, as well as GM, ready to please and accommodate for a birthday celebration. We had two younger family members in the area, who decided to join the table when we were almost done, and there was no issue with it, and the overall dining experience moved along seamlessly. We all really enjoyed the delicious offerings to energize for the Halloween night ahead.
Been here every time I come to the area. Great gluten free options. We had a reservation but still waited a very long time to eat. Once we actually got the food it was cold. We ate it because the waiter never came back until the end to check on the meal . We would certainly fine there again but chef should check the temp of the food he's sending out!
