Food was excellent; however, service was extremely slow. It took about an hour to receive our salads. Total meal time was two hours for a table of four.

Another great meal at What If. We were only disappointed that the profiterole du jour was s not the peanut butter signature selection. Our server, Bethany, was very attentive and personable. The Sirius 70s station playing was a bit awkward and out of place. We always enjoy What If.

The service on NYE was a little slow, but friendly. My daughters dinner portion of shrimp scampi was extremely small and too “lemony”. The crab cakes were delicious.

Went NEw YEars Eve! The rooms looked festive , warm and inviting. Our waitress was great and the food was great as well. Was a really nice night. It was the first time we were there and I was a little skeptical going into the Howard Johnsons but the place was a great surprise!
Thanks for a really nice night!

The service was outstanding. Great job, Bri! One of my group left their phone behind, and we had a call from the restaurant about the phone before we got home.

Service was slow. We were there nearly two hours. Food was ok. Bread was cold. Soup was lukewarm. Appetizers and entrees were cooked well, but a bit on the bland side. More bold flavors, please!

Had the Baked Brie and the Chesapeake Mignon. Fabulous food! Took a while to get our food (more than an hour for the main course) but the food and the atmosphere more than made up for it!

You really don't expect this type of dining experience when the restaurant is located below a Howard Johnson motel in a vacation town like Hershey, but we were all glad we "took the chance." Both the drink and food menus were varied and interesting. Dennis, our lead server, was phenomenal and saw to our every need. Our party of 7 was attended to flawlessly, and everything we ordered was great and met or exceeded our expectations. Overall a great dining experience was had by all, and we are a group of foodies.
The restaurant is relatively small, but can accommodate couples at an intimate table for 2, or parties of 12 or more. The noise level was moderate, meaning I could hear others in the restaurant but could carry on a conversation at my table in a normal voice. The bar is small with limited seating. The restaurant is well appointed by local standards. The menus offer the usual and the less usual, but all well presented and delicious. And great service.
Reasons to go: exceptional service, interesting cocktails, great appetizer and entree choices, good ambiance, reasonable and moderate pricing.
Reasons not to go: you are not in or near Hershey or on an Applebys budget.

Came here prior to a concert at the Hershey Theater. Was a little odd that it was in the basement of a Howards Johnsons, but the reviews sounded great. Food was delicious steak and veal, staff was friendly and accommodating for our children (waitress asked if thier dinners should come out with our salads.) They were attentive but not too in your face. The show stopper was the deserts- Peanut Butter Pie and Chocolate mousse were BEYOND AMAZING!

This is one of our group's favorite places in our area to meet for out monthly social get together. We specifically wanted to hold our December dinner at What If because we knew the holiday decorations would be outstanding and we were not disappointed. Two of us had the single crab cake dinner but it was not hot when served. Our server graciously took them to the kitchen and quickly returned hot entrees to us. We will return to What If!

Very cozy restaurant, great for a date but equally good for a group. We have been coming here for 15+ years and have never been disappointed. The cuisine is always innovative and the Chef creates innovative flavor combinations that never disappoint. Of course if you simply want a great steak and potatoes they also do that very well and their “small plates” are also excellent and may be the way to go if you want to have enough room for one of their always outstanding desserts. Drinks are well made and a good size. Overall, a cozy neighborhood gem and a great value.

Our server was Cassidy and she was great. She was very informative about the menu. Although it was very busy, she was very pleasant and attentive.
My only complaint would be that this was the second time we requested a booth for more privacy and that request was not honored. We enjoy the food and the serving staff so we would make that request for a booth one more time before deciding not to return again.

Had a great time at What If, mostly because of our server, who was outstanding. The food was great, but there are several criticisms. 2 of us had seafood cioppino, which was assorted seafood in a thick spicy marinara sauce, served over noodles - definitely not a cioppino, which is a spicy, stew-like broth. I had no mussels at all on mine, but my mother had 6 or so on hers! Second, my husband had the scallops, which were cool and had to be sent back to be warmed up, and he said they didn't have much flavor - needed more herbs or something. Price for the veal chop was 38.00, which I thought was pretty pricey, but it was a nice sized chop. When I reserved a table, I said that it was a birthday, but no one ever acknowledged it or asked about it. I recommend it, but it is a bit pricey and you should ask questions about everything you get. The salad that comes with the meal is wonderful, and the dressings are great too.

Cozy atmosphere. Food was alright. My lamb dish was really over peppered and my husbands entree was very salty. A bit pricey and not a great value for what you get. Our server was friendly and competent. Overall it was underwhelming and we probably won’t be back.

First, we were greeted by our server, Cassidy - who was so sweet and knowledgeable about the menu and such a pleasure to have as our server. She made the whole experience wonderful with her great attitude and pleasant mannerism. The food was excellent from apps - the shrimp special and lollipop lamb chops and then our dinner was wonderful as well. I had the "no filler" to die for - crab cakes - best I've had in a long time and my hubby loved his filet with crab mornay and again no filler. Such a delight! The olive bread was excellent with the oil and we just didn't have room for dessert this time around but definitely will leave room the next time. Thank you What If but a special thank you to Cassidy - who was the most wonderful server in a long time and we go out to eat quite often. We will recommend and we will be back.

We often dine here before the theater. The service is prompt friendly and very helpful in explaining the dishes. We like the variety available and are never disappointed with our cocktails or food. We don’t alwats have room for dessert but when we do it is always great. If you tell the waitress you are going to the theater they will make sure you are out in time.

Great ambiance. Food was superb. Reservations are recommended. Our group of 5 was pleasantly surprised, including our “foodie” from out of state. Apps were perfect portions, food was delish. Would highly suggest as special occasion..i.e anniversary, birthday etc...though just a nice fri night dinner works too. My absolutely only complaint is that it was a little LOUD, but that may be that it was a Saturday night, and crowded/busy. Would happily go again.

Very good food, incredible Italian “baked” homemade ice cream!!! A little bit over crowded for a quiet date. Shoot to eat after 7 pm to avoid families with small children, which seems ridiculous given the atmosphere and price of this restaurant.

Aside from my meal being too salty, I have no complaints. Our server was awesome and the staff was friendly and professional. I had the braised short ribs. The meat was tasty, but the sauce was way too salty for me. Other people in our party had lobster ravioli and the filet dinner, which they said was awesome. We definitely would come again!
