When we drove up to the restaurant and saw that it was located in the basement of a Howard Johnson Hotel we didn’t know what to expect. We walked passed the check in and down the staircase into a beautiful mahogany bar surrounded by inviting leather booths and small tables.
Since it was still Happy Hour we had 2 excellent Martinis for $13. Although we did not take advantage of the half price appetizers we could see from those around us that they were a good deal. The bartender, Dennis, was friendly and made a great drink. Afterwards , we were seated in a large, comfortable booth and served a delicious dinner. We went back the next night to enjoy the Happy Hour appetizers and drinks. This restaurant is a hidden gem and a must visit.
Excellent range of menu options and friendly service!
We came here for a date night and had a great time. We were first confused of where it was since it was in the basement of a hotel but it was a cool environment, amazing food and good service. We would recommend.
We enjoyed our visit to What If... of Hershey very much. The noise level was low which allowed for quiet conversations. Our waitress was attentive yet not intrusive. The food was great and the portions generous. Overall, this restaurant provided a perfect date night experience where we could have a conversation and enjoy some really great food! Highly recommend a visit to try it for yourself!! You won't be disappointed. Only downside was that it is on the lower level and there is no elevator.
It was so nice and romantic for my spouse and I! Fast service, amazing food, and just a good atmosphere to be in!
We were there for valentine's day.great service good atmosphere is nice.the steak was disappointing. It was grossly I mean not that tastey.more fat then meat.for $39 way to much for a sirloin with the bone in..didn't want complain. It was a special occasion. We were the 1st there that should hav been ck....
Nice time! It got extremely loud so we had to raise our voices to talk. There was not enough sauce at all on both of our dishes but they were still pretty good. Just needed more sauce.
We have eaten at this restaurant before and were not disappointed on our return visit. The service was great, the food delicious and the atmosphere relaxing. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a drink at the bar, a nice dinner, or a party for a larger group.
Food and service were excellent as always....I make a special trip to What if when I'm in town
Dinner was excellent as always--good for special occasions. If the restaurant is busy a little noisy. Wait staff is very good.
Very loud table behind us that ruined our evening. Food was good, service was very slow.
This was our firs time there and all the workers were very polite . The bartender actually introduced herself to us since it was our first time and made us feel welcome. Our server was amazing. Very friendly and polite. Will definitely be back and tell people about What If.
Reviews indicated this was a great place and it did not disappoint.
Nice semi-private booths and tables. Outstanding food! Outstanding service!
The food was excellent. Server was very friendly and attentive by checking with us. Booked reservations on line, very easy and able to see hours available. Very good experience, enjoyed our evening. Desert was very good.
This is our annual anniversary “restaurant of choice”. Great food, quiet setting, good service and a good value. Consistently recommend this place to folks who want an elegant meal for a fair price.
Fun place to meet friends for dinner, expansive menu (food and drink), and friendly service.
cozy place. Good food.
Food was excellent; however, service was extremely slow. It took about an hour to receive our salads. Total meal time was two hours for a table of four.
Another great meal at What If. We were only disappointed that the profiterole du jour was s not the peanut butter signature selection. Our server, Bethany, was very attentive and personable. The Sirius 70s station playing was a bit awkward and out of place. We always enjoy What If.
The service on NYE was a little slow, but friendly. My daughters dinner portion of shrimp scampi was extremely small and too “lemony”. The crab cakes were delicious.
Went NEw YEars Eve! The rooms looked festive , warm and inviting. Our waitress was great and the food was great as well. Was a really nice night. It was the first time we were there and I was a little skeptical going into the Howard Johnsons but the place was a great surprise!
Thanks for a really nice night!
The service was outstanding. Great job, Bri! One of my group left their phone behind, and we had a call from the restaurant about the phone before we got home.
Another great visit to What If... we come each year when we visit Hershey... a true hidden gem
Service was slow. We were there nearly two hours. Food was ok. Bread was cold. Soup was lukewarm. Appetizers and entrees were cooked well, but a bit on the bland side. More bold flavors, please!
Had the Baked Brie and the Chesapeake Mignon. Fabulous food! Took a while to get our food (more than an hour for the main course) but the food and the atmosphere more than made up for it!
You really don't expect this type of dining experience when the restaurant is located below a Howard Johnson motel in a vacation town like Hershey, but we were all glad we "took the chance." Both the drink and food menus were varied and interesting. Dennis, our lead server, was phenomenal and saw to our every need. Our party of 7 was attended to flawlessly, and everything we ordered was great and met or exceeded our expectations. Overall a great dining experience was had by all, and we are a group of foodies.
The restaurant is relatively small, but can accommodate couples at an intimate table for 2, or parties of 12 or more. The noise level was moderate, meaning I could hear others in the restaurant but could carry on a conversation at my table in a normal voice. The bar is small with limited seating. The restaurant is well appointed by local standards. The menus offer the usual and the less usual, but all well presented and delicious. And great service.
Reasons to go: exceptional service, interesting cocktails, great appetizer and entree choices, good ambiance, reasonable and moderate pricing.
Reasons not to go: you are not in or near Hershey or on an Applebys budget.
Wonderful food, great service, consistently excellent!!
Came here prior to a concert at the Hershey Theater. Was a little odd that it was in the basement of a Howards Johnsons, but the reviews sounded great. Food was delicious steak and veal, staff was friendly and accommodating for our children (waitress asked if thier dinners should come out with our salads.) They were attentive but not too in your face. The show stopper was the deserts- Peanut Butter Pie and Chocolate mousse were BEYOND AMAZING!
Very nice local dining experience, I will definitely visit again.
