What Insiders Are Saying
Westward is a place that will make you excited to live in Seattle. (Or consider buying property here ASAP.)
I felt the happy hour cheese tray was overpriced. Very skimpy for $18. One set of oysters (we had three different types) was not fresh and the pork was dry. Lately, I feel Westward is a little hit and miss. Too bad as it use to be one of my favorite restaurants. Needs to be good each time at this price point!
I booked in advance and mentioned for a 70th birthdAy. The first table we were seated at had no view and noisy. We then asked for an outside table We had to wait only a few minutes and sat at one of the picnic tables with a party if 7. Felt a bit awkward. Food was tasty but the halibut was a small portion. Would probably come again but sit on adirondacks fir small plates and drinks.
Enjoyed everything about Westward. Attentive service, wonderful ambiance, excellent food and wine choices.
We came for oysters on happy hour, and to enjoy the view with out-of-town friends. Delicious, we ordered two rounds of oysters! Awkward slow service on Sunday afternoon. Also we were some of the only people seated indoors while there was a large party on the patio and everyone else near the window. Food was really great! Our seating and service was average.
Chair oysters are the way to go
Amazing restaurant, the interior decor is absolutely stunning and they have an amazing outdoor seating area that looks out over Lake Union. Highly recommend for Sunday brunch!
While the food was very good, the service was much to be desired. The staff was incredibly rude, which seems to be very unusual for Seattle since everyone here is so incredibly welcoming and nice. Attitude adjustment needed for staff.
We dined the evening of August 8th. Hostesses are the first to greet you and start your experience off with a bang, right? I made reservations for 2, with a late request of sitting in the Adirondack chairs out front. Hostesses didn’t greet us with any ounce of enthusiasm and were very confused of how to go about our request. We were willing to wait at our reserved indoor seat, however asked to give us a heads up on outdoor seats. They were hesitant, seemed overwhelmed, and never returned to us after that. A simple , nothing is available, after a half hour was expected but none occurred. Bottom line, make reservations way ahead in order to really enjoy the view. Appetizers were really good! Waiter was good & friendly but could be better.
Oysters are a must! Staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about local cuisine and freshly sourced seafood and oysters. View cannot be beat; the beautifully lit Space needle can be seen across the lake in the distance. Our waiter, Kevin; I think, expertly executed a deboning of a whole trout at the table that was nothing short of artistic.
Westward seems to go down a bit each year. While I love the view, I don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon. The food is overpriced for what it is. I ordered the avocado toast for brunch and it was completely seasonless. Bottles of wine are overpriced in comparison to their retail value. And they don’t seem to take into account requests when making reservations. I made my reservation for brunch almost two months before the date I wanted and requested an outside table closest to the water. When I arrived, they said they had made up an indoor table for us. They did ultimately put us outside but not closest to the water as I had asked. It was pretty frustrating.
My daughter recommended Westward having been there before. We had a dozen mixed oysters and a French rosé, perfect! And we shared the wood roasted trout that was expertly deboned at the table and the whole wheat rigatoni. Both were excellent. The waiter and servers were courteous and professional. It was a great meal with great company!
Setting is fantastic and the sense of community even as an out of town guest was great. Waiter did an excellent job with oyster recommendations. Thank you
I went to Westward for the second time on Saturday. Was so looking forward to dinner as it’s impossible to get a reservation and so when I was able to score a reservation for 8pm on a Saturday I was thrilled. Sadly, that’s where my excitement ended.
My husband and I ordered oysters to start with- this was the best part of the meal- although it took 30 minutes for them to come out as the waitress claimed they had a computer glitch and then right after she left, they appeared. We then ordered the scallop crudo and the octopus salad. Both were very underwhelming. The scallop crudo was very small portion, hardly any scallop in the dish. Same goes for the octopus salad- the octopus was cut up hiding in the salad and we counted maybe 4 small pieces. Mind you this dish was $20...
we then ordered the halibut and lamb. Both dishes were very small. The halibut was smaller than my palm- for $34 I would expect a bigger piece. The icing on the cake was our dessert. We ordered the butterscotch pudding. It arrived and I literally laughed out loud at how small the dish was. Teeny tiny for $10. Overall this was a $260 dinner where we both left underwhelmed at the food and the service. Won’t be returning for dinner.
Food was tasty and the view was great. We sat on the chairs outside and enjoyed some wine. They are always super busy and the service can be lacking at times. Otherwise solid.
HORRID ! Don’t know where to begin - sorry - EPIC FAIL
Hostess was super rude, forgot about us multiple times, even though we had a reservation. Have us the worst seat despite me asking for a good seat for a birthday, and waiting 40 mins past my reservation for it.
Food was over cooked and inedible. I returned my plate.
Bill was $200. I was charged for everything.
Waiter was really sweet.
While the outside seating area is pretty unique to Seattle, the food and service was just decent but with nothing being remarkable nor memorable. It may just be that at 60+ in age, we just age out of this restaurant due the noise level and type of service.
Our waiter had an attitude we didn't understand, but we felt unwelcome and like we were troubling him by ordering. Two of the three dishes we ordered were incredibly salty. Never had that complaint in a restaurant before and wonder if it was one new person and a fluke? Atmosphere was lovely with a view of downtown and Space Needle on the lake.
Our waiter appeared focused on getting our order in even though we communicated we were hoping to enjoy our drinks. It would have been nice to know when making our reservation that the beautiful view this restaurant is so well known would be covered up by the 100 or more high school reunion event. We would have likely made other plans.
OK food but seemed pricey for quality, inconsistent service, noisy and not very well ventilated from kitchen, a little chaotic given number of people and limited space. Two bathroom stalls with constant long unisex bathroom lines snaking into the restaurant right by your table. Probably won’t go back.
Food was good as was the service. The entertainment on Thursday, however, was a little ridiculous. The guitar player was good but the music was way too loud. Instead of it being nice background music, it looked and sounded like it was a concert. And while he was playing, he asked for tips. Now if people want to tip, that’s great. But the restaurant should have made arrangements where he was compensated properly. It was like a bartender asking for tips at a wedding. I own restaurants in NY. This stuff is really tacky and a turn off. The volume of the music pretty much ruined the first part of our evening.
Beautiful evening on Lake Union. Booked our reservation for 4 - 3+ weeks in advance. Arrived to be shown to a communal indoor table behind host stand. Asked for outside and told only larger parties were able to sit at outside tables.
Asked for vacant table that appeared to be a quieter spot but again, told no. Food was fine. Service was fine. Crazy loud. Will wait until Renee Erickson gets her arms around it before trying again.
Lovely sitting on the deck for drinks and small plates. It would have been a little awkward to do larger entrees.
I took my parents and my cousin visiting from Philly here on a Saturday summer night and it was beautiful! We had an outdoor table with a view, sun shining on us. The octopus-beet salad was such a tasty, fresh starter. The fried halloumi was also delicious, with pretty flowers decorating the plate. We all LOVE cheese. We also shared the grilled trout, which was even more delicious than the menu description. The staff removed the bones at the table upon request. The trout was perfectly cooked, with fresh snap pees, pesto, red peppers and other vegies accompanying it. All of the flavors worked so well together! We were super full, but tried to finish it.
Westward is beautiful and has a great location. The staff was fantastic. The food is mediocre and expensive from top to bottom. $14 for a small plate of beans. Really??
Our evening at Westward was one of the best dining experiences we have enjoyed in years. The setting was beyond fabulous, the food was over-the-top delicious, the entire staff that we encountered wonderful, accommodating and enhanced are entire evening. Really, this spot cannot be beat.
Overrated, loud, burnt, trendy food with bone in smoked fish and horrible service. The view is gorgeous but not guaranteed (the hostess gave away our table), the servers changed halfway through the shift, and food over a half an hour to come out.
Slow service, brunch was just okay. It really is all about the view.
Limited menu but everything I tasted was wonderful.
Great spot. Exudes all that is casual, laid back and hospitable.
Verve clicquot was having an event there and gave us a ton of free stuff! There was live music and the oysters were amazing.
It was ok, it’s a nice place with good service. I do think it’s overpriced $$ instead of $, portions are small.
The service was perfect, the musician was delightful, and the drinks were wonderful.
We came during peak time for seating. We got a place in side and had access to the full menu. Worth it! Oysters were delicious.
Great View, very good food and service. The clams were excellent!
Food and cocktails are excellent, and you can't beat the view if you're sitting outside. We had very knowledgeable and attentive wait staff.
Great food. Very loud. Very casual.
Reliably excellent food in a spectacular and fun waterfront setting with amazing views. Great oysters. Lively, energetic atmosphere with whimsical nautical theme. Never an inexpensive undertaking (at least in my view), but it's a great place for a special occasion or when one wants to show out-of-town friends an amazing view of Seattle. On this most recent visit, the gigante beans were especially good, as was the lamb dish.
This review applies only if you arrive at 3:55 on a 90F afternoon, score (the last) two Adirondack chairs, and have ample time to hang around snacking and imbibing as the sun makes its lazy way across the sky behind you. If you can do this, go now and order oysters, house-made chips with dip, the gigantes (or not - they’re not really all that), some crisp white or pink wine, and eventually, a fresh shrub when it’s time to prepare for departure. For any other experience, your guess is as good as mine...
Super friendly, attentive staff even during an incredibly busy time. They went out of their way to find us the right spot. And the food - ah the food. SO good.
Awesome food, great vibe, great staff !
